Let me preface this with the avowel that I never watched any of the previous incarnations of the good Dr on BBC or its PBS lackies, however, I have to say I love Christopher Eccelston's Doctor.
If you have not seen the new BBC series it was worth a look. The new Doctor is wonderfully irreverant and a tad goofy and not completely ruthless - he held off wiping out a whole planet to get at his enemy after all.
I won't post any real spoilers here but I will tell you one of my buds says the whole series is available online if you want to take a look.
-
You mean available online for totally legal purchase and download... or like... streaming, so we don't have to
steal download it?
-kv
-
We have TiVo, so it gets recorded of the SciFi channel every friday.
-
i just started watching the series a couple months ago and I love it. I'll just watch the re-runs to see the rest
-
it defently keeps in flavor with the orginal dr who series
-
marathon comin on tonight ;D
-
Maybe I'll head home early so I can watch...
-
they played 3 episodes I hadn't seen, really cool :)
-
I taped the one I missed but haven't had the chance to watch.
BOY I hate dylek voices - kill 'em all, I say, they're too annoying to live.
(Yes I missed the dylek one)
-
I only saw one ep I'd missed. It was the one after the Dalek one.
-
ah man I hate that robo voice too. grinds my nerves. Those are really not my favorite ones. The people who were in Shawn of the Dead must be popular because I've seen 2 different episodes with shawn and his mom :)
-
WEll, BBC series typically don't last more than one or two seasons, so people constantly recruit from other shows, movies and pop stars to pull people into them.
(Arthur Dent from the most recent version of Hitchhiker's Guide was on the Office- so were a lot of the pirates from Pirates of the Caribbean.)

That really doesn't surprise me. If you check IMDB, you'll see a lot of the same guest actors/actresses across American shows, too. Especially in similar genres.
-
IMDB?
-
Internet Movie Database.
IMDB.COM (http://imdb.com/)
-
oh, cool
-
But speaking of Dr. Who, I just read that apparently they're killing off his girlfriend (played by Billie Piper), or something like that.
-kv
-
I dunno. The last ep I saw, they thought she'd been killed, but then figured out she'd been teleported as a hostage for aliens (Won't say which ones to spoil it). The Doctor said he'd rescue her, but I don't think I've seen or heard what the next part'll be.
-
man I hope not. I like her
-
I think the best line from that show was "But lots of planets have a north."
-
lol, that musta been on an episode I missed
-
I think it was in a couple. The Doctor says it to Rose in one ep, and Rose says it to someone else in a later ep.
-
lol, that's one I gotta remember
-
Agreed. Classic line. That and all the digs about the Doctor's ears...
up to date info - the Doctor dropped half a dozen years on his last incarnation. Don't know the new guy at all:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436992/episodes#season-1
-
New Dr. Who comes on tonight :)
-
Yeah, I'll have to give the new guy a try. IT'll be weird since my experience is only 1 Doctor. Hunny has all ready been through at least three or four.
-
The new guy tried real hard, but he was without. Nothing like the pizazz of Eccleston. The determination was that he was rather like a cross between Martin Short and Jim Carey in appearance.
-
Ive heard from the brits (who have seen all of season 2 already) that the new guys ends up very good
I havent seen it dvrd it last night
-
I found that he was ok. He got better in the second episode. But so far not as good as season one Dr. The show itself was just ok too
-
I have watched all the doctors this like his 10th or 11th regeneration
-
How many does he have total?
I always liked the idea of Dr. Who incorporation continuity flaws into the show itself.
"The main lead just quit!!!"
"What? How can we make the show now?"
"Wait, let's get another guy to play him- and say the old guy died!"
"Wait, have a different Doctor? Why would the show be called Dr. Who then?"
"Okay, have it be the same guy, but a different life!"
"Hey, that works great! We can do that a bunch of times!"
-
according to cannon 13
-
i think this is 12 and he has one more
-
depends on if you count that Fox movie or not
oooh that was so bad
bad bad
lol
-
Didn't they stick with that doctor for a while, though?
I thought they had...
And even if they didn't Dr. Who incorporates ALL of the content, unlike comic books and star trek.
-kv
-
According to the geek squad the Dr gets nine incarnations. Counting only the various series and not movies this makes 10. Now assuming the first incarnation is a gimme - the face he was born with - this is in fact the 9th regeneration even if its the 10th face - and therefore his last.
I fell asleep for the rest of this discussion....
-
i'd always head 13 or 15
thats why I'd NEVER limit something like that, just have it be "unknown"
like squirrels in Conker's Bad Fur Day they have "as many lives as they think they can get away with"
-
I really liked the last episode. It's really neat that the royal family are werewolves ;D And Rose going around the whole time going," I am not amused" was funny. Alot better than the first 2
-
Nope it didn't fly. The Victoria that came in contact with the 'werewolf' was all ready a widow. She'd all ready had her kids (all 9 of them iirc) so it was immaterial if she got tainted with an alien cell or not - it died with her....
Ain't I a killjoy?
-
actually they mentioned that she would bite her children
she was a widow in the show already aswell
they never said it was passed from her by blood
-
If that's the case she only ever managed to bite a couple. She had one son die of a blood disorder (haemophelia) and one (or perhaps two) passed it on - in this case to the Russian Royal Family. So if there were werewolves IMO they were slaughtered at Ekaterinberg...
Now there's an interesting idea for a World of Darkness run....
-
I love the newest epsiode when they brought back Sharha and K-9
-
I missed it. I had to decide between DVRing that or avatar. I like avatar better
-
Ahhh... my Dad decided to buy himself a hi-def tv, blu-ray player, xbox360, and tivo series three. It's good to be the son of a tech nerd.
Now I have two tuners, and can record any two things on at exactly the same time. :D
-kv
-
i like our dvr, it can do 2 things at once
very handy :)
your dad shouldve just waited and got a PS3, cheaper than a bluray and it is one.
-
I can do 2 things also, but if I do I can't watch anything while it's recording.
-
As near as I can tell, very few things are cheaper than a PS3. Some countries don't even have that GDP.
-kv
-
pffft, screw a PS3. I'll just use my computer for games
-
my point was,
it IS a blu-ray player and will be cheaper than most standalone blu-ray players
-
It could be- I'm not sure how much my Dad paid for it.
But my dad paid for it, so essentially it cost me nothing. Hard to beat that price, eh?
I didn't mean to offend.
-kv
-
isn't there another conmpany out with a new video technology also? Kinda like when VHS and Beta came out? If that's true I'd wait to see which one wins so you won't be one of the unlucky guys that bought a beta max :)
-
ugg
I wish Id had a beta
i wish more people had
that was such a weird thing when that happened
it shows how dumb people can be as a group
beta tapes were smaller, held more content, lasted longer and superior quality and yet VHS won.
that is sooo weird yet it happened

Superior marketing- same thing happened with the competing AC Current and DC Current technology. Basically the AC companies launched a mud-slinging campaign to prove that DC was inferior.
You know how they did it? The DC Tech companies won the contract to construct the first electric chair, so the AC companies spread talk about how dangerous it was, if it could kill a man.
So AC became the standard. At least in America. I don't know if the standard is different overseas. Perhaps one of our foreign comrades can fill us in on it.
Oh, and Jester, the competing technology is called HD-DVD, which is the one I think is going to win. Unless Sony pulls a miracle out of its ass and convinces all americans to buy one.
-kv
-
could be since the government is pushing HD
damn government
HD is such a scam anyway
bleck

It get's even better:
Edison was asked (as an "authority", which kind of electricity was more dangerous/lethal (and should thus be used in the chair). He said DC. Ofcourse, he was the voice of AC.
At atleast in europe it's AC. Drek, it's AC everywhere that I know where it is.
