Okay, so who has seen Casino Royale, and what's everyone's take on Daniel Craig as the newest incarnation of Bond?
-
Honestly, I don't want to see this. James Bond as a thug and killer??? No Thanks!

Uhhh... have you seen any of the other movies? I don't know that I would call him a thug, but he is more brutal and unrefined in this one than the others- of course, he was more brutal in this book, too. Fleming wrote this as the start of the Bond books, and Sellers and Company nearly put it in the movie graveyard with thier 'death of james bond' comedy spoof.
I really liked it. I was curious about what other people thought.
The jumping stunts at the beginning were awesome.

havent seen it yet but from what I have heard it maks sense that bond is alot less refine more raw as he isnt even a 00 yet
-
He pretty much gets 00 status at the beginning of the movie, though.
The fights in this movie were incredible, though- you can tell that he gets beat on, and it shows more and more as he moves through the movie.

but its condtional

Haven't seen it yet, but odds are I will eventually.

KV's right about him needing refining. That's what the story is about. It shows us how James Bond became "Bond, James Bond." He's still smooth and still sophisticated, he just needs some polishing before he shines like the Bond we've all come to know. And he gets it throughout the movie, which the ending shows.
It was a good refresher for the 007 series. I mean, invisible cars? Come on.
Oh, and Q and Moneypenny aren't in it because they weren't in the book. But I didn't miss them overly much.
-
Didn't Fleming limit his sale of his literary properties - hence the not sticking to the novel aspect of the films? I heard he basically just liscenced the character to Cubby Broccolli, of course they are both dead now...
-
I get the feeling that it wasn't really a Bond movie, but that it was like watching five mini-bond flicks. each independant of each other. Daniel Craig makes a good bond, but they violate bond tradition by
SPOILER
Letting James get Moneypenny. She is supposed to be his ultimate Bond girl, yet unattainable. Just my two cents. . .
END SPOILER
In summary, I liked it, but you just need to adjust to the fact that it's not a bond movie in the usual sense. Which is why I probably liked it.
-
Haven't seen it, but I might see if I can obtain a copy to watch if you trusted pubbers say it's worth it...
-
I'm not big on Bond movies anymore. I used to love them when I was a kid, but no longer.

I only liked Sean Connery as bond. Pierce whatever is his last name is was alright, but the special effects and whatnot were cool so naturally I watched them...
-
Worth a watch, not a buy.
Better than Tomarrow never comes, or die another day.
-
Alright Curris...I'll talk to some of my people and see if I can get a copy to watch.
-
Whatever they say, I ws extremely happy with this movie.
The effects were awesome- and for the most part, non-present. They actually moved away from and FX-heavy story and went with the action movie that has lots of action and stunts. That's what got me hooked. By the time Bond and the villian are jumping through the building site, I'm sure you'll be watching closely.
And... uhhh... Bond didn't get "Moneypenny," he just called Vesper moneypenny.
I actually liked this movie enough that I'm looking forward to the next one, which is something that I can't honestly say has happened since I was dissapointed in every movie since Goldeneye.
Of course, this was directed by the same guy who made Goldeneye. So it's awesome.

Alright I'm gonna make a few phone calls and see if I can find someone to dig up a copy...
-
he just called Vesper moneypenny.
Ahh! How did I fail to make that connection!
Now I need to rewatch the movie, and re-read a lot of books. . . Vesper! Snap~!
(A name not heard in a long, long, long time.)
-
Yeah, watching Bond kick this much ass has made me want to read Ian Fleming's books.
-kv
-
the only reason bond has lived as long as he has is the bad guys were stupid instead of trying to kill him in some elebrate hen you got the drop on him just shoot him right there
-
Uh, I think that's more of a product of Bond films being made in the seventies than anything else- as I understand it, after the first few movies, the only thing they borrowed from the books was the title and the main character.
In "The Spy Who Loved Me," for instance, the entire book took place in a hotel in Virginia. The movie? One of the craptacular Roger Moore ones.
-kv
-
Virginia baby represent!!!
-
Uhhh.... sorry, but the movie had nothing to do with Virginia. Sadly, it was one of the most bastardized plots ever. (Sean Conner's return in the redone "Thunderball" as "Never Say Never Again" was close behind)
-kv
-
You said the book took place in Virginia and I was just throwing up for my home team!
-
Yeah, but I just had to mention that I'm irritated that they recycled the plot from "Thunderball" for "Never Say Never Again" and no one noticed.
-kv
-
I don't know if I've ever actually watched an entire bond movie...
-
I most highly reccommend "From Russia with Love," "Goldeneye," and "Casino Royale" (the new one, not the Peter Sellers one)
-kv
-
Well I'm still looking for the new one, and everyone tells me Goldfinger is the drek! So eventually I'll watch it! I still need to watch the Godfather series...
-
Not Goldfinger. Golden EYE. With Pierce Brosnan.
Although Goldfinger wasn't bad- it was actually one of the worse Sean Connery ones, but it was still very entertaining.
-kv
-
Goldeneye I think I might've almost made it all the way through that. As well as Tomorrow Never Dies...almost made it through that too...but then I get bored and come check the boards.
-
wich one was it the carver group
-
Tomorrow Never Dies. It also had Teri Hatcher.
I loved Goldeneye, but I grew up with Connery as Bond (my Dad is a fan as well), and I loved the look into his past. Plus, Goldeneye was the first GOOD Bond movie with an original plot.

Sean Connery is the only bond I've known.
