Title: Ghost Rider
Post by: BornKrazi on February 19, 2007, 06:40:55 PM
Went and saw Ghost Rider tonight.  Not quite what I expected but it did keep me entertained.  Although my ass got numb half way through, and I was pretty much craving a cigarette well before he even became Ghost Rider.  If I had to grade this movie, I'd give it somewhere between a B and a C+.  The CGI was decent, some scenes were awesome.  The overall storyline was half decent.  The acting was well...the acting kinda sucked actually now that I think about it.  So yeah that's my two nuyen worth...anybody else seen it yet?

Ruski and my buddy Noah saw it on Saturday, but I didn't hear a yea or nea from them.

My buddy who still runs a theater said that he really liked it, but that he wasn't much of a Ghostrider fan, so he wasn't sure if they screwed anything really big up.

I saw it Saturday and I have to say I thouht it was pretty good. Nicholas Cage is a crappy actor, and that was true-to-form in this movie as with the others, but I liked the movie none the less. As far as the storyline went, yeah they screwed it up, but not nearly as much as they did with X-Men 3 or all of the Blades. Instead of a demon trapped in the body of a human and only being able to manifest to take vengance, they made him the "Devil's bounty hunter" who had the ability to "seer people's souls". He was still bad-ass, but in a slightly more audiance (religous moron) kind of way. It was a fair origin story.

Overall  :bob: :bob: 3/4

Well Sam Elliot is just a hard-bitten cowboy type anyway. He always has been. I'd have loved to have seen a movie with the old west ghost rider as the main character and Sam Elliot playing him.

That would be bad ass!  Especially if he's got that bangin shotty!  How could I convert something like that to Shadowrun?

Free Spirit. Most anything "Hollywood" could be done with a free spirit. However, you need to lay it out in SR stats and motives. A Marvel superhero isn't exactly the best thing to have in Shadowrun. Of course, the horse and the rider would be the same spirit. I would recommend powers like Movement, Fear, Flame Aura, things like that.

No I was talking about the shotty...especially when it transformed and shot some giant fireball looking thing...or would that be like the Big D's Temper rounds?

Not if he's a spirit. It would simply be a manifestation of the spirit's abilities like Fireball. ALthough for that, the spirit would need the Sorcery Power.

So true...it kinda reminded me of the BFG from DOOM...do they have something like that in Shadowrun?  The closest thing I can think of would be a Panther Assault Cannon.

See, I knew that wouldn't kill the guy. I even looked at my girlfriend and said, "See, the guy has 1,000 souls now. He's toast."

Sam Eliot is in it?  Well, hell, that almost makes up for having Nick Cage in it.  I might actually watch it now.

Well just remember not to expect too much and just be entertained by it. It's not winning any awards, but it's pretty good none the less.

what don't you guys like about Nick Cage? I thought he was great in matchstick men

Yeah he played a good role in Matchstick Men, but in Ghost Rider he just sucked.  And believe me I'm a big Nick Cage fan...but I was very disappointed in his acting in this movie.

Uh, I might be a stickler for details, but isn't he playing a flaming skull for like half the movie?

Yes, he is playing a flaming skull half the movie.

Hard to critisize the acting talent of someone who is CGI, in my opinion. Unless they did Final Fantasy: The Spirits within, which was just deus-awful.

He's just to happy go lucky when he's not.  If I was condemned to a life as a flaming skull I would be smiling and crackin jokes that my skull feels like it's on fire!

Actually, I liked the special effects on the big screen. You definately get a better feel for the heat effect when he's riding down the street. But I can see the point about him being to happy-go-lucky when he's not GR. That's what bugged me about the movie.

you do know this movie is all his fault. he pushed to have it made

Oh I know. It was still good enough to watch for fun, just not very good when put up against any real cinematic venture.

I like Nick Cage. I like that he loves comic books, and that he keeps pushing to get non-spiderman comic movies made.

Ghostrider... is a difficult one, though, because you have to take the main character, and split him into two seperate entities and still have them be the same person. Ghostrider in the comic is the main character, and Johnny Blaze is kind of a weenie. Blaze can't control anything that Ghostrider does, his only power is to turn into him. Which has to be a little painful, because he actually FEELS the flames burning his face off of his skull.

But Ghostrider LIKES being himself. He loves his job. And he's all those things about Johnny Blaze (or anyone) that they supress- he's a jerk, he's rude, he destroys things, and he cheats to win.

I'll let you know once I see the movie, but I'll admit that I'm biased to like it because they went to all the effort to make it, and to make it good. I have no love for comic book movies they crank out and expect me to eat up.

Well, in the comic book, Ghostrider is also a demon.

ya know, I didn't really care for the comic book either. That's really why I'm not all that interested

What was up with his stare thing he had going on?

The Pennance Stare is an integral part of Ghost Rider. As a spirit of vengance, he forces his victim to relive all of the pain and suffering that the victim inflicted on others, thus gaining them a measure of revenge.

So why exactly do their eyes look like they've done a bunch of acid and then die?

Because it looks COOL on the screen.
