Title: How many are there?
Post by: Ouija on October 13, 2007, 07:47:03 PM
I know I'm going to sound like a Newbie, but I don't care.  But I am wondering just how many books they have out for 4th edition.  Is WizKids (however you spell their name) still in charge?  :-\

Rule books make 3.  SR4 Core book, magic book, and Augmentation just came out.  They also have a source book 'Runner Havens'.  I dunno what else atm.

new rulebook out: Augmentation

new canned campaign out: Awakening.

Augmentation is an implant/cyberware sourcebook, with some interesting new rules territory in the area of tailored genetics.

Awakening is a canned campaign centering around Technomancers somehow.  I haven't really looked at it, trying to convince my local GM to consider running it.

I'm going to have to do some research in my area see if I can't get some books without ordering online.  Also need to check in any local games, my usual group has kinda faded away  :'(

I think I have just about all the 3rd edition books.  Although as I mentioned in a previous post, I went to PirateBay and downloaded the 35 pack of books, but apparently I don't have the correct software to open the file.

Actually there is a street in the "downtown" district that is littered with them.  I'll check there tomorrow as well, thanks for the advice  :)

If nothing else, check Amazon.com. I accidentally bought some first and second edition books that were incorrectly labeled as 3rd edition, and I was too greedy to pass up the $1.50 pricetag.

Amazon.com does have some decent prices.  I actually bought some novels off of ebay several years ago at a quarter a piece.  They were in great condition and they were all great reads.  So perhaps I just need to do more legwork next time.

I've never bought anything off of eBay, so I guess that's egg on my face.

Honestly those were the only things I've ever purchased on eBay.  :propeller:

So there's no weapons book as yet?   :o

I am genuinely surprised.
Not that I play 4th edition, mind you, so it doesn't really matter to me.  But with all the weapons that were created for 1st, 2nd and 3rd edition I had expected an expanded weapons catalogue to be one of the first things out.

Slightly off-topic, would I be right in concluding that the Smartlink and Smartlink II have, in effect, been merged into a single 'Smartlink' piece of cyber?  I only ask because the 'Ares Predator 4' (or whatever number they're up to) seems to be the same as the Ares Predator 2 used to be (ie integral Smartlink), which would be a step backwards in comparison to the Ares Predator 3 (Smartlink II).

Yes. At first glance, it seems like they've downgraded a lot of stuff, but they've really just cleared out the (Really) old stuff to make way for the new. So there's not really any need for smartlink 1 and 2, because most everyone gets 2 anyway, and it's been almost thirty years since the first smartlink was created. How hard would it be (in real life) to find doctors to install thirty year old pacemakers, artificial hearts, and the like in you? Pretty damn hard. It's just pushing the technology curve ahead.

Arsenal is a book full of guns and stuff. It just wasn't one of the first books out there.

Arsenal was originally scheduled to be released after Street Magic, but things got shuffled during the ownership change. It is available now though, and contains guns and other weapons, vehicles and drones, martial arts, drugs, and some other goodies.
