Title: Stuffer Shack
Post by: kv on October 06, 2013, 09:28:42 PM
Okay, so I've been working on my own scene, something to show off programming chops and keep things fun.

I decided to start with the classic 'food fight!' scenario, which I have run many times. A little more difficult to fudge for a program, but I've come up with a few good tricks, and I think it will be fun to play.

If you're interested in beta-testing, please shoot me a PM on here with your current email, and I'll forward you with my next email.

Have fun, play Shadowrun!

Okay, so second attempt not quite as intimidating, although I will get sucked into this forever.

Here's a screen capture!

Now I need to learn how to program doors, and make shelves work! Also, combat and all that stuff.

My buddy got a shout out from Winterhawk (the dev who wrote On The Run) on Shadowrun.com; my buiddy is doing a game-translation of On the RUn for Shadowrun Returns. How cool is that? :)

Here's my progress report, moved graffiti and got things better aligned, found placeholder shelves until I figure out something better:

If anyone knows/can figure out how to import content into the editor, I'd desperately like to use something like this for my stuffer shack shelves:

Dropbox, or just upload it to Steam. I believe you can update published adventures.

Working on scripting and stuff for Stuffer Shack. Still not 100% on those shelves, although my colorful shelves are a vast improvement over the empty steel ones.

Added the Matrix as a side mission, but it's not working correctly, so I think I need to figure that out.

You can overwrite the original, though, yeah?

I've made (more) progress on my Stuffer Shack. They updated the editor, so you don't have to do the hack walkaround to get custom items into the game; so I re-entered my shelves, and added a StarKaf logo to celebrate (It's not just soykaf, it's StarKaf.).

Right now my game is crashing whenever I try and test the module, though... which worries me. Anyone else having problems, or did I break something?

Map layout finished, version 0.5

I got the custom elements to work, and I'm layering in actors, scripts, triggers, and conversations; and can I just say, Events are awesome?

Edit: Ooh, I forgot to include the goodies I was working on!
Clerk randomly says 'Welcome to Stuffer Shack' when you approach the counter (just like in real life). You can get soykaf and starkaf (if you really want both), the matrix shop works, although I need to mess with the merchant image. The lockers in the employee lounge are accessible if you get back there, and each one has a uniform for a different archetype, so if you're a decker you can open one locker and get armor that works for you, shamans have one, street sam and adepts have another. I was pretty proud of myself on that.

I want to add an integer that tracks how much you "spent" at stuffer shack based on how many items you pick up. :)

I want to add a script that determines your karma value and adjusts the difficulty based on your level, so that the 200+ karma monster doesn't have to fight two weak gangers with baseball bats- he gets a full on gang war with Halloweeners and Ancients. :) For funzies.

I know double-posting is considered bad manners, but I really wanted to talk and no one said anything.

Anyway, I've managed to get auto-adjusting difficulty working in Stuffer Shack; I actually set up a bunch of triggers to check the armor level of PC0, I'm hoping no one thinks of coming into the module naked and suiting up aterward. I also set a small trigger so that I can adjust levels for testing, but I think I'll leave it in the game.

The difficulty also spawns different (more powerful) versions of this lady:

Ditto.  And poor form to double post good lord I have bad enough form and decorum as is I don't need a demerit system to further it. lol.  Actually I am wondering if we will get like a full map of Berlin when the next part of that campaign comes out.  Or even better in my opinion a map of Berlin with SRO.  I just want a map in english please.  I want to send my players there but I don't want to be google mapping it on the fly.  And for that matter I shall now rant that we american/english speaking fans of SR are getting shafted because there is a Berlin sourcebook for fourth edition and there will probably be one for 5th but both will probably only be in German.  So Catalyst where is the freaking Love!?????

So yeah I will try a beta run if you want me to. I can even use a noob cause I haven't sat down and played the game again.  Still arguing if I want to be a hacker or not.

If you get me your current email address (via pm), I'll send you the new version when it goes out this week. One of my other beta testers made a bug report, feel free to check it out and add to it as needed:

I'm emailing out the scenario to be beta-tested by people that I trust, not through Steam (although you will need the steam version or the latest drm-free version for it to load correctly.

The email address is so I have a current one, and so I can keep my distribution controlled.

Sent out a new build version of the beta last night (should be ver0.80 now), and you should both have the email from me. Let me know if it didn't come through.

Okay, so I never got any feedback from most of my testers, so I went through and did a couple of play through myself, kept a total of the bugs, and got to work fixing them. The 1.09 software update (pre-Berlin) messed up the way I had some of the scripting done, but we went through everything and fixed all of the errors, and I'm going to finish writing conversations and publish it this weekend.

Link when it's done.

This morning, I went through and loaded my level on my Dad's computer so he could check out the level that I built with my brother; I had 260 subscribers.

I just logged in to play someone else's UGC, and I noticed that I had a bunch of new comments- I now have 500+ subscribers. :)

Sorry man I have had no time to play SRR lately school been keeping me pretty busy.  I basically have about an hour to play a game and I will admit XCom Enemy Within has done a good job of distracting me.

Okay guys, sorry for the neglect but the last few weeks have been busy for me. HBS launched a contest for editors to show off what they've done and I submitted an updated version of Food Fight! to the competition.

I fixed some of the bigger glitches (like People getting trapped in the manager's office if they had no decking skill), added a ton more to all of the conversations, and generally polished the product.

The contest runs through March 27th, and you can vote daily for who and what is the favorite user-generated content for the game (in a bunch of different categories, including long story, short story, maps, and props)... and you guessed it, I've submitted Food Fight! to be reviewed.

I don't usually do this, but my brother Dave and I have been working on programming this game for a few months- we did a bunch of custom content and characters, and wrote it up, and it's been fairly popular (4,000 people downloaded our scene; 1,000 people are subscribed to our channel on Steam).

If you could go to this page, pretty please, and look up Food Fight! under 'short story,' it would be much appreciated. You can vote once a day, so please- vote early and vote often!

Okay, so... Mitch Gitelman and Jordan Weisman played my version of the Food Fight scenario. I have been so crazy nervous about them playing it, but here's the video, and I can't tell you how it ends, but I'm smiling and happy that they played it.

Here's the video, go check it out!
