What the hell is a "warth"?

a warth is a small woodland pig, known for eating figs, and ocasionally yodeling.

Why the hell would a dragon king want a scrawny-ass, pansy excuse for a pig on his elite team of evil lumberjacks and ninjas?

Oh, right... bacon.  :D

I recorded this a while back... and actually, it was far superior to the D&D movie they released in theaters. I mean, the CGI was way cheaper (the dragon looks like the leftovers they had after the first movie), and some of the makeup is crappy (I kept looking at the litch and wondering why they glued his top lip to his teeth)

But the story is far superior. Far FAR superior. The main character is an older fighter, and he brings his friend (a priest), a barbarian, and a rogue (not a halfling... maybe? He was short, but they didn't talk about it at all... maybe a LOTR thing) there are some specific 3rd Edition D&D refernces (Obad-Hai is the main god talked about during the entire movie), but overall, the movie was a lot of fun to watch.

The choreography of the fighting was the best I've seen in a movie other than Lord of the Rings in a long time... like, Willow good. (the people swordfighting actually looked like they knew what they were doing)

Oh, and Bruce Dern, the blue-lipped guy, does show up, but he's an undead... thing. And he has no blue lips. He's been un-alive for a hundred and fifty years or so, and he's trying to wipe out the city built on the ruins of the first movie's city. (I paid money to watch that movie- do I blame him?) So he's a bad guy.

I'm not going to rate it, because it was made-for-Sci-Fi-tv-movie, but I actually was pleasantly suprised with it.

Obad-Hai is not a garantuee it's bassed on the 3rd edition (though it probably was), he's a god from the Greyhawk World, IIRC, which was the first world designed and published for AD&D.

better job than they did on the original, when it comes to acting and fighting choreography.

Special effects left something to be desired, though.

Well, that's because they found someone who had a webpage, and gave him $10 to draw a dragon for the movie.

Well... yeah.

They're actually already doing the third one- keeping with this storyline.

I'm actually sort of optimistic at this point.

Apparently they made the 2nd and 3rd one at the same time- so it has the same cast (without any nasty re-negotiations and stuff), and a continuos plotline.

The third one? I don't know- I hadn't even heard the second one was on TV until Mercy said something- and then I went and tivoed it. I even got Dad and Dusty to watch it, and they both liked it.

Maybe someone should find out?

I checked, but all the paydata on it is two years old "Dungeons and Dragons 3 will start post-production once Dungeons and Dragons 2 hits theaters and video later this year. In 2003"

it looks like this one may languish in developmental purgatory for a while until things come together. I'm betting once this D&D online thing comes out, it might look a little sunnier to have another movie come out. Of course... the last one was released straight to SciFi, so that's not the greatest of signs.

if sci-fi bought one of them; I bet they'd buy the other one as well.

actually, I'm pretty sure the one on sci-fi was just a publicity thing to get people to buy the D&D products because the first time they showed ith there was alot of comercials for the books. As far as how good the movie was, it was ok. The chicks were hot so that was a plus. And that cleric was the worst fraggin cleric I've ever seen. The one charecter I did like was the lich, he just didn't care.

But it wasn't Ebberron- it was jsut generic D&D world- I don't even know if it was Greyhawk.

I haven't been able to find anything about the third movie- what I can find just mentions it as a footnote to the second movie, which it says "was going to be released" to movie theaters across the country. Apparently it languished in development hell for a while, and it looked like it was going to be a straight-to-video-masterpiece, and then SciFi bought it and played it.

It got pretty decent reviews (from us, and from other people I know who've seen it) but I still haven't heard anything about the third one. Anyone got the paydata?
