Having actually graded other people's work (one of the many crappy things about being editor in chief) I can honestly say to you that it IS obvious when someone plagarizes.

In Example: One of the girls who wrote for the newspaper (she didn't turn in much of anything, and what little she did turn in looked like she had copied it out of an AIM chat window and pasted it into a document) was threatened by the teacher that if she didn't turn in an article for the last issue of the paper, would recieve a failing grade.

The article she turned in was something simple, just a review of a bunch of summer movies, with her opinion on each one. It was beautifully written, it was articulate, and aside from the same grammar and spelling problems at the beginning and end of the piece, it was flawless.

It was honestly too good to be hers. So we did a little checking, and she had gone to different websites (yahoo for this movie, MSN for this other one) and directly copied the reviews into her article.

There is a high difference in quality between those people who plagarize, and the things they plagarize. It shows when they turn things in.

When I was a kid, I hated writing (it's now one of my biggest hobbies.  Go figure) But I read.  A lot.  As a result, I had a much higher reading comprehension level and wider vocabulary than most of my classmates.

When I did have to write a paper, (I'm guessing it was in Jr. High, but I'm not entirely sure) apparently my teachers didn't believe I could have written it and actually called my parents to find out if I'd copied the paper or had someone else write it. (I had, and my parents confirmed it).

I didn't find out until years later.

Uhhh... actually, being in charge of a newspaper and listening to people bictch about how the networks who don't espouse thier way of thinking are obviously 'twisting the truth' (Fox News for Liberals, New York Times for Republicans) and seeing how often people steal stories, jump leads (that's when they print something before they can prove it because they want to be the first one to have the story up)

It really turned me off of journalism.
I'm gonna go be a doctor.

I've had people ask me when I'm going to be on a bestseller list.

It's a HOBBY!!  I have a little problem with deadlines, therefore writting probably isn't the best day job for me.

My girlfriend actually just had one of here English Professors write her a glowing email about the story she had him read- he's reccommending publishers. I am so proud of her.

Oh, but back on topic. There is only one person in the 10,000 Posters Club.

who could plagerise his little black heart out, and no one would ever really know.

it's all about vocabulary people.

so: you want to copy someone else's work and claim it as your own?

easy enough. copy it, and change every word for another one that means the same thing.

they can type any combination of words into google, but they'll never find your origingal offering.

*shrug* seems to work for me.

(but only when I'm feeling so lasy that I can't be bothered to just make up ten pages worth of crap myself.)
LOL

Well, she's no Ruski, but she does have the chance to post on here a lot, which definitely puts her in the running to head that direction.

Of course, the same thing could be said about Gabe or I, and neither of us have 10,000 posts. I think the fact that Ruski was the only one who kept up the posting during PB's deluge helped.
