<RL>
The same is said of the UK SAS troops, and many other units.
In general, US elite forces are considered to be "overequipped and undertrained" (quote: one of our own elite troops), relying overly much on high-tech tools.
</RL>

Good point. Beleive it or not, I kind of feel the same way. There's a LOT to be said for being able to do a job with little or no equipment as opposed to getting used to doing a job with the best equipment. One leads to improvisation and a wide range of skills, the other leads to a very narrow skill set and an inability to adapt.

dosn't everyone say that their boys are the best?

the Navy has the 'seals', and they are better than the army rangers, or the ... uh... whatever the hell it is that everyone else has.
then, if you go talk to the army rangers, they say they are the best.
everyone's got an edge.

seals are cool, they can like, do stuff under water.
rangers are cool. they can run like 200 miles.
marines are cool. they can jump on barbed wire over and over again.
airforce is cool. they have airplanes, and they blow up crap without letting it shoot back.

there's always a way to look at things and say 'thease guys are the best'
the wild cats are the best, because they can kill people while naked.
the azzies are the best, because they have blood magic pumping them up to twice their normal size.
the renracu red samauri are the best, because of their total detication...
etc etc etc.

my PC's are the best, because they always run away and live to steal again another day...

Well, if you're runner group isn't sufficiently legendary then there is no reason for them to not run away.

Has anyone ever been or had a player that got to the point of being super-powerful?

Our players (mine and Ruski's) don't usually last very long, but our youngest brother made a character named Clerick who was a physad who used pistols. And he lived through run after run, so by the end he had a pistols skill of 14, plus his adept power that gave him 6 extra dice.

We decided it might be time to retire him when he gave a tbird a moderate wound while firing blindly behind him.

Or the time he fired over his shoulder behind him, and took out the guy chasing him on the motorcycle.

  Yeah. He might have been overpowered.

Jeez. Let's do the math on that. His pistols skill had to start at 6, I imagine, so from there it's 14+16+18+20+22+24+26+28= 158 Karma points just to get the skill up to 14. That doesn't even count the adept power, either.

That's a lot of running right there. Hell, he could've gone straight as a trainer or something.

TRAINER???? Hell, he could have taken over the country, chummer! With a pistol skill of 14 he could have probably been the one who geekd Dynkelzahn!! Where the hell was he in December of 2057??????

He was a UCAS Navy Seal, if I remember correctly.

Of course, I totally stolet he character from Equilibrium, and made it for him, as he said he wanted something in that vein.

Ah yeas, the Gun Kata. I remeber that. Did you create this PC before the SOTA '64 book came out? If so, he may have been a bit over-powered on the adept front, what with having to use house rules and the like.

I don't know if I made him before SOTA 2064, but I still haven't bought that book, so I'm not sure how much that affects it.

He was basically overpowered when he was created- and he only got worse the longer my little brother played him. Of course, trying to help 10 players update thier character sheets with karma, stats, and skills is a little much, so he might have fudged some things when I wasn't looking.

I can see that happening pretty easily. Of course, a 10 PC gaming group is a LOT of fraggin' players. I try to keep mine from 4-6 if at all possible. And remember, you can always throw him up against something like Dues where his pistols don't mean a thing.

Yeah, I kinda got that whole Equilibrium vibe from the name and the pistol skill.

Pistols still don't stop sniper rifles and a failed suprise roll though.

I try to avoid targeting players specifically like that, though. I mean, if the runners are doing thier job correctly, no one should have any idea that they're there, right?

I thought up a bunch of ways to get rid of him as a character, but in the end I just decided that it was a little too petty to kill off his character just because the guy was getting powerful.
