I walked into this movie expecting it to be a rehash of the old story, boy wa I wrong. It actually takes place after scientists think they've found the remains of krypton. So superman flies off to check it out. He's gone for 5 years. The movie picks up with him getting back to earth. Lemme tell ya, I loved this movie. I have friends who haven't seen it yet so I called them when I got out the theater and told them if they wanna go see it I'll go with them Must see. And there is a teaser trailer for spiderman too. can't wait for that one

Hell yeah- this movie was incredible.

It was everything I loved about the first two movies, only better.

Plus, his Clark Kent is spot on- he acts so much like Christopher Reeves that it's awesome, and then his Superman is almost completely different (in a good way- much more boyscout-ish, which was always a dominant feature in the comics, and not so much in the movies)

The critics aren't liking it, but I'd rather listen to you all   Did they wait until Chris was dead to make this thing on purpose do you think?

no, there was alot of BS with production. Kevin smith had written a script and the producer at the time wanted to change a buncha stuff. He wanted superman to fight a giant spider. The guy had some crazy fascination with spiders. I can't remember his name but he was the same guy who produced The Wild, Wild West with Will Smith. And remember what they had in that movie? Yep, a giant spider.

Yeah, it was funny. (I watched an Evening with Kevin Smith, too)

Here's a list of things that I remember, things that particular producer wanted to change:

The name (no more Clark Kent. No Kal-El)
No flying.
The suit (too gay)
Needed little super-friends (a gay robot, if I remember right)
Needed to fight a polar bear (most fearsome predator of the animal kingdom)
Needed to fight a giant spider (most fearsome predator of the animal kingdom)

I think the script was also a treatment of Doomsday/The Death of Superman, which I'm kind of glad they didn't do. I mean, it's a cool storyline, but the movies need to build a new following before they go on something like that. Especially with the Marvel Universe being well respected, and DC kind of being up and coming at this point, if they showed all these super heroes that no one knew, people would wonder where Spiderman and Wolverine were.

Yeah. This movie was a hundred times better than that. And... well, the wild-wild west... it sucked. It just... it was interesting to see how a producer can ruin a movie.

But Superman: Returns is awesome. I reccommend that everyone go see it, so that they'll make more of them.

To me the best part is when he flyes just above the atmosphere and he is listening to all the voices around the planet.

Still haven't seen it yet, but there is a panel from the Kingdom Come graphic novel where Superman is standing on deck at the Justice Leage Watchtower and just looking at the Earth and telling the rest of them what is going on on the ground. That's a scary superhero.

Oh yeah. Not politically correct to stand for Truth, Justice and the American Way anymore. They took it out of the cartoon series years ago, so I'm not really surprised that they did it to the movie too, but it still really pissed me off. It's like having Captain America becoming a hippy and living in a comune.

Well, since Superman is a global hero, doesn't it strike you as a little odd that he stands for 'Truth, Justice, and the American way?' I mean, what if he goes to china, where saving someone's free speech issues means overturning the government?

I didn't have any problem with them not saying it- Superman never even really says it- Perry White asks if he still stands for 'all that stuff' after being gone so long.

And no, it's not as big of a change as Captain America moving to a hippie commune.

Nah, I've got to disagree. There is a big difference between standing for something and enforcing something. Superman isn't going to fly to China and take over just because we are at political odds with them. That's what governments and armies are for. Remember, a superhero is a defender of those who cannot defend themselves. Not an initiator of global policy. And the vast majority of comics, whcih is at the root of this discussion, have always treted them as such.

As for Captain America, have you been reading Civil War? If not, maybe you should. Cap is the paragon of what America should be, not what America is. Big difference.
