Wow.  I've been looking forward to a movie for the past 12-14 years.

There's so much scope for it, it's a great story.  I can see it being brilliant if it's done well.  I think that, because there aren't any clerics (at least, at the beginning of the Chronicles), it will be easier to implement the 'wow' factor for the audience because the characters will be thinking 'wow' too.

There's so many elements about it that I like, I just hope they do it justice.

Actually, it's animated.

So while I'm excited for it, I can approch this with no small amount of trepidation. I mean... seriously. Animated?

Although Michael Rosenbaum (who is awesome Lex Luthor on Smallville) is the voice of Tanis, and Lucy Lawless is the voice of Goldmoon. I'll wait until I see some animation before I pass judgement on this one, though.

I'm afraid it'll look anything like that old 'The Hobbit' cartoon.

What's wrong with the old Hobbit cartoon?  I grew up watching that.  :P

Yeah, me too.

Also animation quality = teh sucks.

I loved it, and I loved these books, but I'm afraid (nay, almost unto terrified) that they'll do a Gedenny Tartakofsky/Clone Wars rip off (or worse- Ren and Stimpy... or even worse... family guy) and that it'll suck.

At least with live-action I'm comfortable with the level of suckiness.

Yeah, my comment was made before I realised it was animated.  :-[

There's some pretty decent artwork around for Dragonlance - on the covers of the books, in the D&D modules, in other D&D source material - so if it's of that quality I'll be pretty pleased.  If they do a Clone Wars/Samurai Jack style, I'll be disappointed.  It deserves so much more than that (which isn't to say that that style isn't good, just not suited to this story).

I'm a bit hesitant about Lucy voicing Goldmoon though.  I envisage (if that's the right term when imagining a sound...) that she'd have a softer voice than I associate with Lucy, but maybe I'm not giving her much credit.

Anyway, I look forward to having my fears allayed and being mightily impressed.

I think it's more probable that she doesn't walk around all day talking like Xena, Warrior Princess, and can actually speak like a normal human being... although years of man-bashing Xena plotlines have led me to believe otherwise.

Dragonlance books were really good books,  I read them back in high school.  I hope the movie/animation dose not deviate to much from the book.

Funny to see this post because in the Shadowrun game I played in there was an NPC kender running around as a contact, decker!

You know, I have to wonder what age group they are going to shoot for with this. If they go with your standard kids-late teens approach, then you can say goodbye to a lot of the sexual tension between Tanis, Kitara, and Laurana. You can also toss out the Tika's "blossoming to womanhood" with Caramon, although they will probably keep the crap with Sturm and Alhanna. Personally, I REALLY hope they go with an older audiance (since the people who read these books are now in thier 30's) and really cut loose with some of the more disturbing aspects of the stories. I'm really curious to see who they do Lord Soth, perhaps the baddest guy since Boba Fett. You should read the original 6 just for that, Jester.
