Okay, so who has seen Casino Royale, and what's everyone's take on Daniel Craig as the newest incarnation of Bond?

Honestly, I don't want to see this. James Bond as a thug and killer??? No Thanks!

Uhhh... have you seen any of the other movies? I don't know that I would call him a thug, but he is more brutal and unrefined in this one than the others- of course, he was more brutal in this book, too. Fleming wrote this as the start of the Bond books, and Sellers and Company nearly put it in the movie graveyard with thier 'death of james bond' comedy spoof.

I really liked it. I was curious about what other people thought.

The jumping stunts at the beginning were awesome.

He pretty much gets 00 status at the beginning of the movie, though.

The fights in this movie were incredible, though- you can tell that he gets beat on, and it shows more and more as he moves through the movie.

KV's right about him needing refining.  That's what the story is about.  It shows us how James Bond became "Bond, James Bond."  He's still smooth and still sophisticated, he just needs some polishing before he shines like the Bond we've all come to know.  And he gets it throughout the movie, which the ending shows.

It was a good refresher for the 007 series.  I mean, invisible cars?  Come on.

Oh, and Q and Moneypenny aren't in it because they weren't in the book.  But I didn't miss them overly much.

Didn't Fleming limit his sale of his literary properties - hence the not sticking to the novel aspect of the films?  I heard he basically just liscenced the character to Cubby Broccolli, of course they are both dead now...

I get the feeling that it wasn't really a Bond movie, but that it was like watching five mini-bond flicks. each independant of each other. Daniel Craig makes a good bond, but they violate bond tradition by

SPOILER

Letting James get Moneypenny. She is supposed to be his ultimate Bond girl, yet unattainable. Just my two cents. . .

END SPOILER

In summary, I liked it, but you just need to adjust to the fact that it's not a bond movie in the usual sense. Which is why I probably liked it.

Haven't seen it, but I might see if I can obtain a copy to watch if you trusted pubbers say it's worth it...

I'm not big on Bond movies anymore. I used to love them when I was a kid, but no longer.

I only liked Sean Connery as bond.  Pierce whatever is his last name is was alright, but the special effects and whatnot were cool so naturally I watched them...

Worth a watch, not a buy.

Better than Tomarrow never comes, or die another day.
