SR4 PBP
« on: January 30, 2007, 04:52:49 PM »

Hey, I need more things to do with my life, so I'm going to learn the SR 4th rules backwards and forwards so I can run games when they finally get out here for convention this year.

I only need one or two players, but I wanted to do a basic stuffer-shack run, and then something small, so I can figure out the different aspects of the game.

Anyone up to experiementing with me?

... As it is, me being super shiney and new, I wouldn't mind. I'm horrible at SR4 though. Everything just kind of confuses me.  It would be nice to learn so that I might actually work from the book rules instead of basing a new game off of SR. <~ has her own book and everything. (my games cooler though. kidding kidding!)

Well, now there are two subjects here- now I want to hear about your game, and I wanted to say that the idea was to learn the 4th Edition rules better. So you wouldn't have to already know the rules- we would be able to screw around and learn them, (and also get potshots from the peanut gallery, so everyone here can understand what's going on)

1. eheh... sorry 'bout that. I don't know very much about my game *cough* making it up as I go *cough cough* Haven't had a good run of it yet.

2. That would be fabulous. learning the rules would do much for converting them to work for me. ;)

Is this still open or did it go by the by? If you still want a second player to learn the SR4 rules with, then I'm up for a small PBP.

I have the fourth edition book. I've read it cover to cover, although I was half asleep at the time.

I'd be interested in a demo game, and I'd do my best to help answer questions about it.

We might be able to start something small-- I wasn't really planning on it, but life is what happens when you're planning other things, right?

I have finished a technomancer character for a fourth edition game. So anyone who wants to start a game I am ready. I will be honest though and tell everyone that I may not understand all the rules in the 4th edition. But you only learn by doing I think. ;D

do pardon my stupid moment there.

In my experience thus far, it's better to look over the pre-made characters, read the rules, and then make your own character. After only one or two characters, you'll understand why you need what you need (and what you don't need that the writers thought you did)

Like the Dodge skill. Trust me.

*nod* I figured as much when I check stuff over. I have an NPC I made once but she was meant to help out so she's pretty out there as far as "new characters" go.

I'm pretty good at working with a characters downfalls though. That's why I suggested using an already made character. Might change a few things but I'm fine with using a "surplus clunker."

Well the sample characters in the 4th Edition book are FAR superior to the ones in the 3rd edition book, especially when it comes to relevant (useful) skills, extraneous gear, and the like.

Apparently the guys who wrote the rules revised them so that the way they make characters is the right way. (Trust me, a character without a high dodge skill isn't going to last long in a gunfight) and EDGE IS ESSENTIAL. At least, it was in the little demoes my friends and I ran.

is this game still happening?!! I'd love to get in on this, maybe even run it, actually, I've got some experience making the rules work.  I've never run a play by post before, but I'd be willing to give it a try.

You are more than welcome to attempt running a PBP Gilliam. I was planning on running one, but I haven't gotten enough players, and now my book (err... I mean, brothers who own the 4th edition book) have gone missing.

what all is involved in running a PBP game?  As I said, I've never really run a game along these lines before...

how is dice rolling usually handled?

would we be able to use an area of these forums to conduct the game in?

and finally, how appropriate would a player cap be?  I'm thinking 4 players max...that's about all I'm willing to deal with, while also trying a new mode of running a game.
