RIP: Shadowrun for Vista/XBOX 360
« on: January 03, 2008, 04:37:41 PM »

However you may look at it, it's a sad day for Shadowrun.  Fasa Interactive has stopped all support for the Windows Vista/XBOX 360 Shadowrun game:
http://forums.shadowrun.com/forums/thread/130338.aspx

The announcement of Fasa Interactive closing:
http://forums.shadowrun.com/forums/thread/126659.aspx

I had never played the game, but like Kid mentioned before any Shadowrun game is good for the franchise as it may spur developers into making more Shadowrun games.

There is good news though, Jordan Weisman (if you don't know who he is, Google is your friend) has licensed the Shadowrun IP from Microsoft (along with Crimson Skies and Mechwarrior) so more than likely we will see something good in the future.

I wouldn't worry about cyberpunk going away any time soon.
as long as there are nerds, there will be games to play with cyborgs.

Yeah, I heard about Weisman taking over the Fasa IPs, and I thought it was pretty cool, too. Maybe we'll get an RPG or something out of it.

I liked the Shadowrun game, but I was a little dissapointed that there was no one-player storyline-style action. Shadowrun is cool, but it's not really a game someone can drop into without any preparation. Especially the magic-tech-trolls-elves stuff. That's not easy to pick up, unless someone explains it to you.

Oh, and from what I've heard, William Gibson has decided that cyberpunk is dead. Post-cyberpunk is the new 'cool.' As if "Do Robots Dream of Electric Sheep" was ever really that cool. ;D

I would love to see Crimson Skies and Shadowrun as RPG games.

Cyberpunk was big in the 80's and early 90's because everyone was thinking that was what the 21st century would be like.  Now that it's 2008 and we're almost in the 2010's people realize the dreams of cyberpunk would not come to pass this soon.  At least that's my .02¥

See ya!!!  I was very upset with the way Microsoft "handled" the essence of Shadowrun!

Well, the core development of the game was actually pretty cool. A CS-style game, with magic, trolls, elves, wired reflexes (a system I didn't think they could make work in a FPS), and it all worked. I think they needed more time and money to develop a first-person story, or a larger community, but the thing they created really was pretty kick-ass. Once the price on it drops down, buy or rent a copy and try it out. It was a lot of fun to play, and chopping people with a samurai sword was so cool. :D

Not Devil May Cry cool. But still cool.

Gibson's inconsistancy has just caught up with him is all.  He writes good stories, then he writes some huge snores.  And Philip K Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep was the first best instance of a movie actually being way fragging better than the book it was based on...Johnny Mnemonic on the other hand....

As for the game, now I'll never even ever see it, let alone play it *sigh*

Well, you can still play it, and they have the stuff set up so that you can play online and stuff, but it's an investment. I figure if I had done the same thing, I would have knocked the price of the game down, or maybe figured out a way to allow several people to play on the same copy, a-la halo.

But hey, that's neither here nor there.

It may be a good game, I just do not like the storyline that they developed for the game.  It just does not "mesh" with the "Shadowrun" universe.

*shrug* gotta get the newyen to pay the bills.
thoes code monkies that live off hot pockets don't work for free. they work for hot pockets.
and hot pockets come from stuffer shack.
and stuffer shack is run by aztech
and aztech never gives anything away for free.
so, inorder to broden the target group (aka to people with money, and not just newyen less hackers) they had to open up the story a bit... so it could be enjoyed without reading 400 pages of history and text.
