Transformers 2
« on: June 25, 2009, 06:51:31 AM »

Hey Chummers,

I just saw Transformers 2: Revenge.

I thought it was an excellent movie. It was non-stop and the story kept going all the way through. The robots rocked and it was just a good movie!

My only complaint is not tying up a few loose ends.
For example, the two twin robots after they were fighting the big transformers and soundwave still attached to the satellite. However, they may be tied up on the next movie if they make it.

I personally give it 5 out of 5 bobs :bob::bob::bob::bob::bob:

Any thoughts or comments from others?

I know Ruski saw it last night, and he said it was predictable. I don't know what he meant by that- that's just what he said.

Seriously, how could it not be predictable.  It's the Transformers, not Pyr Gynt.

I have to agree. Of course it was predictable. I think that G.I.Joe will be predictable too.

But there is a Transformers 3 to be made by 1012.

-= WARNING =-
Plot spoilers are present in this post.  Read at your own risk!
-= WARNING =-

Saw it last night.  The plot is a little weak, but we all know it was made for teenagers and young adults (those who can't appreciate movies like A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket).

Let me point out though, that I went into the movie expecting a weak plot.  With that in mind I must say I quite enjoyed myself.  Being a fan of Transformers since I was a kid I know a lot about the Transformers Universe and history, so I had a lot of fun picking out the things changed to make the movie.  You spend a good part of the movie laughing, there are a bunch of jokes.  Especially with Wheelie.  In the end I had a good time, though the ending seemed rushed.

:bob::bob::bob::bob: - 4/5 Bob's

Thinks I really liked:
 - Optimus's second fight was bad-ass.
 - Soundwave's voice was great.  Not perfect, but close enough.
 - Starscream continues to be a little biach like he's supposed to.

Things I didn't like:
 - The last fight, Optimus is a bad-ass and defeats Megatron and the Fallen within what seems like 2 minutes.  WTF?  2 minutes?
 - Soundwave only had one minion.  ONE!!!  Where's Laserbeak?
 - The college chick decepticon, no explanation as to how they can disguise themselves as human.  Apparently they can also be light-weight despite being entirely made of metal (when she's on top of Sam), and their disguise can also replicate human skin temperature (again when she's on top of Sam)?
 - Continuity: the twins are fighting Devastator (the combined constructicons), then Devastator starts climbing the pyramid and the twins are nowhere to be found.
 - The fallen's face is supposed to be the decepticon logo.

Noticed changes from the Transformers universe:
 - 13 original transformers changes to 8 primes.
 - The primes all mostly look the same, when the 13 original transformers all looked different.
 - No mention of Primus (the first autobot and creator and 'God' of the transformers) nor Unicron.  Perhaps plot ideas for the 3rd movie?
 - The Matrix of Leadership is no longer a glowing ball with handles, but a spikey knife-like thing with a glowing center, small enough to be held by a human.
 - Jetfire is supposed to be a copy of a Robotech Veritech fighter (similar to an F-14).  He was a decepticon but became an autobot, so that part was right.  Though, he should have had an autobot logo as the change was made a very long time ago.  Though I must say I liked what they did with Jetfire, the ornery old coot with a cane haha!

Thoughts/speculation on next movie:
 - Primus/Unicron as mentioned.
 - Inclusion of dinobots?  Grimlock for president!
 - New characters: Blurr, Hot Rod, rebuild Megatron as Galvatron

How did you know?!?!
Hahahaha

I watched most of the cartoons, the first animated movie I've seen dozens of times, and a whole mess of the toys.  Had I known there were comic books (or 'graphic novels' as they're called now) I probably would have gotten those too.

A brief history (if you're curious).
 - Version 1 -
The transformers were created by the Quintessons as mundane laborers (autobots) and military personnel (decepticons).  They were cruel so the transformers revolted.  Once free the autobots and decepticons began their civil war that eventually led across the stars to earth.

 - Version 2 -
First there's "the One" which is an entity that has existed since before time.  The One then created Unicron, which was a physical being in the universe.  Since there had to be a balance of light/dark, good/evil, order/chaos, etc. the One split Unicron into 2 beings.  The being representing good and order was called Primus, and the being that was evil and chaos remained being called Unicron.  Primus created 13 transformers with parts of his spark which were meant to man the Primus's alternate form, the planet Cybertron.  One of these 13 betrayed Primus and the other 12 and became "The Fallen".  Similar to Jesus, his disciples, and Judas?  I think so ;)

I don't know about you, but I think the Transformers universe would make an awesome RPG.  Don't know what system to use, but there's such a rich history!

Edit:
Just realized I mixed up the original cartoon history and the comic book history.  Fixed.

Neat!  I've never been a big fan of Beast Wars, though I hear the story arc is great.
