I've returned... but is anyone else still here?
« on: November 06, 2009, 03:05:00 PM »

Hey, It's been a long while since I posted, I got sucked into the WoW-crack, and lost a lot of time.  I see that the latest post on the board though, is from a few months ago, so where is everyone?

I've also been playing 4th ed D&D, and talking up shadowrun to my players (2 of whom are totally new to RP).  I'm thinking of reviving Sr3, since I have a complete (or nearly so) collection of books, and I've fallen behind on purchasing Sr4 material (lol, still just working with the core book).

so... if anyone's still alive, give a shout-out, I guess?

There's a few of us still around, but as you might have noticed, things are a little slow around these parts at the moment.

Stick around, keep posting, and we'll see who we can scavenge up for your enjoyment!

Sorry, looks like it's just the three of us at the moment! I was hoping Ingo and Apoc would be around, but it does not appear to be so.

In other news, my youngest brother wants to switch back to 3rd edition Shadowrun and start a new game.

Hi Gilliam!  I'm here... kinda... hahaha  I've seen D&D 4th and I will never play it.  It's table-top WoW IMHO.  Gone are the days of "a kobold stabs you in the face... [roll]... you die".  That experience was the first 5 minutes of play time with my very first character in my very first AD&D 2nd game which was my very first role playing experience ever.. and I was hooked for some reason.

SR will always be my favorite RPG, and SR3 is my favorite version.  I do like SR4 however, since it's system is much easier to understand so it's easier to introduce new people to it.  My favorite part of the SR4 setting is the wireless matrix, since it's now treated like an alternate plane on top of the the real world (much like astral space).

Yes, the ol' dragon is here of course.

Still check in on a daily basis. Sometimes post, sometimes not.

I've got the next drink. What's been happening?

I'm hung up on the mechanics of wireless matrix, but I do like that deckers can participate in the whole run now. I don't like how riggers diappeared.

Anyway, I play in a few 4th edition games in real life with friends, and it's fun, but it is like an MMO.

4TH edition will be what I'm running next. Still not to sure how running the matrix works myself. so what I'll be doing is having my NPC be a decker. They can use him when they need some matrix work done. Plus I can use him as a story piece. Like he just got finished downloading the paydata then takes a round through the leg. Now the runners have to get out of the building while lugging a wounded friend with them.

I'm lurking.  End of October beginning November is about as busy as Christmas for me with family obligations etc.  I may have a couple weeks before the Christmas vacuum gets me.

hey all!  I thought I'd turned on e-mail alerts, but I didn't seem to get any... oh well, added the pub to my home pages, so I'll keep abreast of what's going on.

yeah, 4th ed D&D does lack something compared to 3rd, in the lethality department.  But that was never what I looked to D&D to do for me (all SR's are much more about that).  I look at it as the candle flame I've attracted 2 new friends of mine to RP-ing with.  At the end of the day, 4th ed D&D will bring all pencil and paper RPG's closer to the mainstream, and I think that's a good thing.

Been having all sorts of scheduling difficulties with my local buddies lately though, which is more than a little irritating, considering my own "fun-employment" and loads of free time.

I'm heading back to SR3 mainly from a cost standpoint, but there is a certain elegance to the system that I missed when I "upgraded" to SR4.  I also own both the SR2 Renraku sourcebook, and the SR3 canned campaign Brainscan.  Both deal with Deus, and it will be interesting to play through them, if I can get a group that far, knowing how the canon storyline turned out.  I'll try to be checking in daily from now on, I need something to keep me occupied :)

It appears there are plenty of people watching- so if you post, it looks like people will comment.

I should post soon, I wanted to do some more tv/movie threads.

Amen.  Hunny has all ready been told after the vast fundage invested in 3/3.5 if he even looks at 4th he's going to have to deal with a body wide  haemotoma.

Yeah... unfortunately, all of my friends who play D&D upgraded with the new edition, so I was forced to do so as well ,or mooch books constantly. And, since they were relying on me to DM just about everything, I needed to look at the books a lot.

My brother is thinking about going backwards-compatible with Shadowrun, because he likes the 3rd edition ruleset better. My wife, oddly enough, agrees with him. I'm for whatever people have fun with.

I like 4th. It's different. But to me it seems that 3rd has a bit more customazation.

Yeah, same here. I keep thinking, I'll post about this or that then I never get around to it.

Let's see if I can be a little more proactive.
