Yeah, it sputters, starts and stops amid a hail of sparks, that's for sure.

You also can't post images? I don't know what that's about.

They're probably worried about spam, there's a lot if excitement and network marketing going on.  Spammers I'm sure are going to pick up on that.  Or its just for now while they deal with host instabilities.

I'm divided; I really wanted them to use Germany (yay Anarchist's Berlin!).

But the option for more Seattle intruiges me. I mean, I thought we were already getting 'more Seattle,' since we hit the $800K mark, but if they wanted to DOUBLE the amount of time you could spend in Seattle, I would be tempted. I don't mean, 'there are now twelve areas'- I mean that if originally you could spend 20 hours slogging through Seattle's dark streets and now you can spend 40 hours doing so; that would be kind of awesome.

I'll have to go check the forums and see what they're saying. I'm probably going to vote Berlin.

Yeah, I think about half the people who were suggesting places just wanted to see Shadowrun in their hometown/place they grew up in. Like, I don't think there's a lot of call for Shadowruns in Bangaladore, but Andrek from the Shadowrun.com forums was very vocal that it was the perfect place to have the game set.

Not that the people originally writing the game were any better- the bomb that created the 'Shattergraves' in Chicago would have taken out the FASA offices (or so I've heard); and then they had that whole Bug City thing.

Personally, I chose Germany because I think there's a huge fanbase in Germany and they deserve some love and recognition; and I think Anarchist Berlin is cool. Also, Lowfyr can make an appearance, because those are his stomping grounds.

My second choice would have been more Seattle, but I waited a few hours, and didn't see any reply from HBS about my question (how much more is 'more Seattle'), so I went with Germany.

The "cermak" blast that created the bug city zone was centered on the FASA office in the Cermak building on Cermak rd in Chicago.

and in the eternal loop of life reflecting art, FASA was its self destroyed a short time later.

Data Search critical success:

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=1100+W+Cermak+Road+Chicago,+IL&hl=en&ll=41.853148,-87.65318&spn=0.003213,0.005729&sll=41.852777,-87.650825&sspn=0.003213,0.005729&t=h&hnear=1100+W+Cermak+Rd,+Chicago,+Illinois+60608&z=18

That's the building where FASA had their offices.  Office B305, employees # between 5-10, estimated annual revenue of $500,000, and the phone number was (312) 243-5660.  It's amazing what you can find on the...pre matrix?  Some websites act as if the company is still active since they probably didn't receive any notification that it wasn't.

Also, I voted Germany :)

Since there was less than a 1% difference between the two leaders (Berlin and Hong Kong), they instituted a run-off!

So you get to vote again, now between one of the two favorites. Ruski seemed to think this was a stupid idea, but I think it's cool.

Yeah, the people who voted for either one will probably vote the same.  However the people who voted for other places become the swing vote since they'll have to pick HK or Berlin.

if there wasn't a big mathmatical difference (~1% or less) between the two leaders, will the addition of the other votes be that much different? my guess: round 2 finds a winer by... wait for it...  wait for it... about 1%! yaaaay!
and maybe they say something pretty like: "we can't choose either, so we will do both!" and let that be a PR angle. or maybe I'm wrong, and the run off will see a good tie-breaking difference?
my guess: if they wanted to find a majority, and one vote made the difference, then thats the winning vote.
a re-match; ... i dunno, just dosen't seem to add a lot of value.
are they going to have a third run-off with just one choice so everyone can say: I voted for the winner! because giving additional value to the people who voted "wrong" is kinda a loosing slide, if ya get what I'm saying.

I think it'll matter.

There's 36000+ backers, so potentially there's 36,000+ votes.  So if Berlin & HK are within 1%, we don't know if that's 21% & 20% of the total, or 31 & 30%, etc.  However, making estimates based on the picture they provided in Update #17, I did a breakdown like this:

Berlin   3200 (21.4%)
Chicago   1700 (11.4%)
Denver   1950 (13%)
Hong Kong   3300 (22.1%)
London   2200 (14.7%)
Seattle   2600 (17.4%)

Total: 14950

So Berlin was at 21.4% and HK was at 22 %.  If you were to continue the assumption based on 21 & 22 % of the votes then Berlin would have received around 7600 and HK would have been around 7900.  Together that's 15k+.  Not even half of all voters.  That leaves around 20k+ people still to vote on these 2.

It would be easy to assume that the split would be the same, although it could easily not be the case.  What if the second time around someone votes for HK instead of Berlin?  Are the backers going to vote for whichever is closer to home, or one they want to see?

Personally I think it'll be close, but not close enough to hide a clear winner.  From what I'm reading most people seem to prefer Berlin, a general consensus feeling that HK is too rich or too involved to be lightly covered by the game and would cheapen the feel.
