They're supposed to be basing it on 4th edition, and the early talks were that it would include a complete character builder program- so you could actually make a full Shadowrun character for the game that you could use in a tabletop session. Which is also why I'm excited about the storyline of the game becoming a campaign for the tabletop.

It is in the Year of Shadowrun announcement that SRO is going to be using 5th edition ruleset.  That way they can support both the online and campaign without having to make any rule changes between the 2 editions.

Quote
"Being part of the greatest revival and expansion the world of Shadowrun has ever seen is a dream come true. Working with Catalyst allows us to weave both our stories together and now also create Shadowrun Online as the first Shadowrun 5 ready computer game, so players will feel right at home! Being able to enjoy your game with your friends—or even find new people to play with—is the unique opportunity provided by an online game and we are very excited to be able to do just that for Shadowrun,” said Jan Wagner, Managing Director of Cliffhanger Productions.

So there you go sorry KV we will have to get used to the 5th edition sooner or later.  I still vote for later just cause we don't know when SRO is going to come out.

According to initial project estimates, it's supposed to be out later this year. Although if the game is set up for 5th edition Shadowrun, I guess I will be getting used to it sooner rather than later.

Well a lot of folks are hoping that 5th edition going to be more like 4.75 edition.  Instead of a complete rehashing of the rules they just going to streamline matrix rules and maybe introduce some new items but not change anything major.  Sort of like they did with the 20th anniversary edition.  At least that is what I am reading on the shadowrun.com forums.  I haven't hit the shadowrun4.com (catalyst's site) to see what they are saying.  In fact I am surprised it is still up and am wondering if it is going to come down?

I think the intention is to have the main sites (Hairbrained Schemes, Shadowrun Online, and Catlyst RPG) and then have them cross-post news and stuff to the Shadowrun.com site.

Basically, if there's any rumor, it's going to wind up on Shadowrun.com, which is nice, although I still search the dumpshock archives when I need an answer on rules and errata for SR4.

Somebody going to have to teach me how to use Dumpshock then cause I go to that site sometimes and just leave confused.  Oh there a new post up from Jackpointer it a little too vague for my liking.

I can't figure out if it is a spirit possession, a shedim, or perhaps a sprite or AI that gone way off script?

... I just google a rules question, and it usually comes up on the Dumpshock archives as a bunch of people argue about it.

Is Dumpshock still active at all?

No idea. I backed both though (Returns and Online). I was dropping by to see if anybody here was spending time on their forums. If not, we should totally go invade because we are one of the oldest constantly running shadowrun communities on the web.

Hi guys!

Is Dumpshock really doing anything anymore?  I mean I thought I remember that they were talking about merging with the Shadowrun Universe Forums since they (as far as I know) the oldest SR website out there.  I mean these guys have info from both Earthdawn Source material that links into the Shadowrun storyline.  I found out from them from the person who fondly referred to himself as Fasa's Bitch. lol  I only go there every once in a while.

I've found that if I have any rules questions for Shadowrun 4th Edition, I can usually find the answer using a google search of dumpshock to find a thread where people have discussed the merits and flaws of such a design, and usually cited specific rules to get to those conclusions. :D

Here's the alpha gameplay footage for Shadowrun online- more neon, less gutterpunk.

Apparently it'll be using 5th edition rules, but I'm okay with that.

Good News / Bad News time

http://www.shadowrun.com/shadowrun-online/2013/09/20/status-update/

I get it I really do and I will be honest part of me is happy about this but part of me is worried.  Notice they said they just had content control which makes me think they do not have release control.  Which means it probably will be not be their decision when to get the game released now.  That disappoints and worries me a good bit honestly and I don't know if the reaction going to be all that positive in the community (especially Kickstarters) who invested a lot of money into this games development with the understanding they would see the game this year.  As I said I am happy because I am taking that means that donations are going to stay open longer.  Which means I can delay making a donation which I can ill afford now due to the fact that I just had to get 2 new tires  :P.  Ah, well I knew something was up when they hadn't updated the site since GenCon.

IT'S HERE!!!!! It is on STEAM as an Alpha and you can purchase it on Steam with three different versions.  A basic, deluxe, and uber edition which is also discounted by 30%.  This is just some gameplay right now no character creation or anything much.  No idea what the time line is to get the full game out.  Just sharing...
