"Before you start pointing fingers, make sure your hands are clean."
- Bob Marley

Collective Soul - Shine

"Thank God you're here, man!" Roman sounds as though he actually means it- as much as anyone with dark circles under their eyes and the haze of cigarettes coming off of them- it looks like he's been pulling all-nighters out here in happy town.

Can you really blame him?

"Hey- YOU!" Roman shouts at the homeless, waving the gun around. The homeless stir, and begin shuffling off. The creeper that you saw first is talking to a wall, and doesn't pay you any heed.

"Yes, you!" Roman says to the one not paying attention, "Come," Roman shouts dis-articulately, "Get with it!"

Finally the homeless man glares in your direction and begins shuffling away. The others are alread long gone by this point- apparently this isn't the first time Roman has tried to get rid of them.

"Man, those fraggin bums, man, they bum me out," Roman confides in you, letting the assault rifle hang by its sling so that he can light another cigarette.

"So... Haste, what do you think you can do about our problem?"

Seeing his state of mind I decide to keep it short.

"Simply try to find your missing customers or whatever and find my missing friend.  So why don't you tell me everything you told him and then tell me where he went from here?  Then I will hopefully go find him and them and bring them all back here.  Sound good?"

Leaning against my car feeling just trying to feel slow because this guy's jitters are making me antsy.

you are not moving fast enough."

<Roman>
"I'll tell you what I told Kinsey--" Roman takes a long drag on his cigarette, the ember lighting the front of his face in the dark, shining in twin reflections in his glasses.

"I let people stay here, good customers, neh? A week ago, I had some good customers go out to get food, never came back. People went looking for them, never found nothing."

Roman gestures for you to follow him inside, "Here, come on in and I'll introduce you to everyone."

Roman looks at the dark night with suspicion on his face- he doesn't trust something out there. "Kinsey came in, looked around, talked to people for a couple of hours, and then said he wanted to take a look around the neighborhood. He never came back."

"You remember who Kinsey talked to?  I am just going to ask them what it was he asked them and then maybe piece together what it was Kinsey found.  Then I will go out there and find out what is going on.  Don't worry I will come back because well one thing I do well is run so I will book it back here.

Walking into the building after Roman waiting for him to point out who he talked to.

Roman shrugs, "I wasn't in here for that, I went back out to watch the perimeter, omae. I know he talked to Maria and a couple of the others, because he wasn't here long."

Finishing his cigarette, Roman drops the butt and crushes it under the toe of his boot, and then pulls out the pack and sticks another to his bottom lip, turning and lighting it as he wanders out into the darkness.

There's a small gathering of people. They look homeless, unwashed, and scared. They watched you interact with Roman, and now they're just watching you, trying not to hope for anything.

Approaching slowly and asking very gently.  "Hi there have any of you seen or spoke to my friend Kinsey in the last few weeks?"  Just testing here not trying to startle or spook them just as casually as I can start the converstaion.

"We're really quite nice and friendly, but
everyone has a beastly side to them, don't they?"
- Sid Vicious

Lady Gaga/Christopher Walken - Poker Face Mashup
The people you walk up to look dirty, and scared, but not like junkies. One of the major benefits to BTL chips is that rather than frying your body like Cocaine or Deepweed, they fry your mind- your ability to understand emotion gets burned out when you spend so much time slotting CalHots, chips illegal here in the UCAS sector, but legal in the NAN sectors.

It leads to a delayed response, like when you talk to someone who's watching AR, or trideo while on a voice call with you- there's a delay while the words make their way into the brain and back out again. You get the slow blinks of some heavy addicts that are otherwise perfectly healthy- another reason some gangs preferred to deal in BTL- it left the organs clean to be harvested after the host died.

One of the men in the group, a dark-haired man with three days growth of beard, is the first to answer you. "Kinsey? That tough ork? Yeah, he showed up and asked questions, wanted to know about Walter and Sandy."

The man scans the crowd, looking for someone, but doesn't find them.

"He wanted to know about the missing people," a girl from the crowd prompts, "where they lived, why we think they're not coming back." She nudges the first man, "Tell him, Pale-Horse, about the people who wandered off and never came back."

You'd think she'd sound more scared, people getting abducted from the place where she's living in squalor without weapons, but she sounds like she's re-telling a story that someone mentioned they once scanned in a hero trideo.
