"Our Hero" was guarding them, great.
The Ancients bust down the door, great.

The Ancients attack because the astral quest was for spirits to be used against them, not so great.

Too much reason to hate the ancients, too narrowly focused character.
He'll just be another looser with a grudge against the Ancients.

Maybe the Ancients were hired by whomever the spirirts were to be sent against, but in that case, he shouldn't know that. Suspect it at the out most. Or the 2 pieces could be entirely unrelated, when did the Ancients last need a reason for attacking an ork?

THey should be related though, because why else would the Ancients geek most of the mages?

I was thinking about it being a turf war of some sort. THere are endless reasons for two gangs to be waring against each other. However, I like the idea of the Ancients being the proxy of someone else. That is very realistic given the SR universe. However, there are also many reasons da' orc might not have the grudge against the Ancients in particualr. Maybe he suspects that they are being used as a cat's paw for someone else, but the rest of the family thinks he's full of drek. Maybe he has personal ties to someone close to the ancients? Thinking of this as an "Ancient against the orcs" is the wrong mindset. I think it would be better to wonder why the Ancient would be attacking THESE orcs. And that just brings us back around to the original statment.

ok the orcs are astral questing to gety some dirt on a spirt they plan to sic on a high level humians member  the aceniets attacked just because the orc magicaly active group is seen as a threat to thier turff

got to thinking 1 our hero wasnt on guard duty the night in question he was in voled in a self intiation  involing meditation and fasting so bob was assigned to watch oveer them  2 it wasnt the acentiants that attack but thats swhat the orcs are sposed to think

Those "Ancient" goons that wrecked his life were never with the Ancient?!

The were hired hitters (runners, basically), disguised as Ancients, to throw the blame. (And maybe because some fellow had asked them to, secretly hoping to cause a war between orks and elves, thus allowing his own Humanis allies to show off how "Brutal and barbaric, indeed utterly soulless and subhuman" or some such drek, that metahumanity "really" was)?

I like that, it wouldn't be aparent until the middle of the story somewhere, da' Ork gets a tiny lead/hint and slowly figures out the humanis plot.

As Mercy points out, revenge. For one thing. There are others, but then the above story line would not be needed.

Yeah, the 'Ancients' geeked some of the mages, and they basically disown him or whatever.  If you look at it in his perspective, he probably lost everything because of them.  With nothing left, he'd focus on the only thing he knows, those that did it to him.
