I will assume that many saw this a couple years ago. I literally just watched it recently. While it wasn’t perfect and had too much going on as well as many unanswered questions, it was a good Shadowrun like movie. This was literally the best way that I could show my wife what the Shadowrun world was like visually.

I remember telling my better half "We're watching that!" - and never doing so. ;)
Thanks for the reminder!

Then look forward to thoughts after you see it.

Have now seen it. Enjoyed it.
Was it pure Shadowrun? No.
Did it remind me of Shadowrun? Yes.
Was it entirely watchable? Yes.

They leaned a bit more heavily into the racism thing that we've usually done, maybe (probably) because it's more of an issue in the US that here. Not that we don't have racists - we do! - but racial tension are less significant.

I also thought they leaned a bit heavily into the 'Damsel in Distress' trope with Tikka, while still leaving her big scene(s) predictable and even necessary.

But those are probably my main complaints. It was an enjoyable movie. :)

You summed up exactly what I thought. The one point that was nice is that it was actually a good introduction into the Shadowrun universe for my wife. She could finally appreciate my interest and her interest has been growing.
I guess my complaint about the movie is that there are a lot of plot holes and it felt kind of incomplete at the end at least for me.
Regardless a decent movie.

Ah! I should absolutely show it to my better half then! :)

I watched it when it first came out. After watching it I felt that "magic lore" pulled those "Shadowrun" feelings out, but at the same time I felt that since it was set in a modern time it didn't have any of the cyberpunk from Shadowrun. Due to this it felt more like a Tolkien-like fantasy setting set in the modern world.

Still, it was an enjoyable experience.

Finally saw this.  I agree with pretty much all your points, guys. Huny liked the depiction of fairies as pests particularly.  And we did note that it wasn't done as Shadowrun - as an explosive evolution thing introduced with the new age, but that the multitude of races seem to have always been co-existing. Could it have been better, Oh, yeah. But it was an interesting take on the urban fantasy thing.

In a nutshell.

Segued over to Lucifer for the next foray in urban fantasy, and despite the pretty great Tom Ellis, same review applies ;)

It seems there is potential for a Bright 2. Really curious how they would do that as it can go both ways. Doubt they will get same actors but who knows.

Ah, see, that was why I watched the show.  This Lucifer is based on Gaiman's from the Sandman series, which is absolutely outstanding, but I never read the Lucifer spin off - okay, I read the first two issues, but then could never find the rest.
So watched this, and although we're hijacking here, it is a longstanding Pub tradition to do so.  Anyway, the above review was before I saw season 6.  Gotta say the last season almost ruined the whole for me.  I was quite pleased with series 1-5 despite some inconstant writing, the story teller in me was really was thoroughly and bitterly disappointed with the wrap.  I recommend that if anyone watches this show, they stop at the end of season 5 before going on to the weak and pointless season 6.

As for Bright 2, I'd watch it.  We all know the Shadowrun world is rife with plot ideas.
