Title: Olympics
Post by: AJStarhiker on February 10, 2006, 09:05:34 PM
Just finished watching the Opening Ceremonies.  Way cool.  They had skaters with fire coming out the backs of their helmets.

I heard they suspended a bunch of cross-country skiers, and banned a... skeleton skater(? I don't even know what that is...)

Last count, Norway's leading the medal count with 7.  U.S., Russia, Italy and Netherlands are all next in line with 3 each.

did they have snowboarding yet?

Post by: Gabriel on February 13, 2006, 05:30:35 AM
You know, I really wish they wtill had the Olympics every 4 years together instead of this staggered drek. I LIKED having Olympic Years when it was much more of an event. Now with the Winter and SUmmer games on a staggered 2 year ofset, well I just don't get as excited. That having been said, I caught some of the down hill skiing last night, and one guy damn near wiped out on a jump, just to recover at the last second and finish in 3rd place (at the time I watched). It was pretty damn cool.

I know they've done the men's halfpipe.  I was at a friend's birthday, but I recorded it.  I'll probably watch it later.

Well, the American women took the gold and the silver last night. They would have taken the bronze too, except one of the girls tripped on her final landing. And it was the best run, up until she fell over, of the entire competition. Oh well, in the immortal words of Meat Loaf, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Well, I could pick out some of the individual words and figure out/remember a few others, but I took it as my language course for college.  It's been about 4 1/2, 5 years.

I haven't read those books since high school. I may have to dust them off and give them another read, just for the hell of it.

I felt like they kinda petered-off toward the end... like Adams was tired of writing them. I especially didn't like the ending. (Dent dies and the universe unravels, because the Vogons, of all people, want it to?)

I prefer to end with the death of Marvin the paranoid android (after reading God's last message to all of creation), or the book after that one.

The last book left a bad taste in my mouth.

Not to get off topic here, but was anyone else a bit pissed that they cut the entire refutation of God out of the movie when the Babylfish was brought up?? I know they included it as an extra on the DVD, but it was a really pussy move on the part of the film company. Damn pansies! :gabe:

like anyone who watched that movie would care if god was proven to not exsist... he did leave that message to Marvin.

Actually I was pretty sure the company would cave to wht they assumed would be a Christian balckalsh. I didn't think they would have the balls to show that scene, and all it does is reinforce my opinion about religion in general and people's inability to stand up for themselves when faced with the shadow of Political Incorrectness.

Well, the Austrian ski team got busted by the Olympic security cobbers. Turns out they had a duffle bag full of used needles and a caoch sleeping on a cot in the basment who had been banned by the Olyimpic Commitee and bared from the country for doping his athletes. Personally, I'd love to see these guys taken out of the competition for good. If they sitting there doping their athletes, they deserve the embarasment and scandle.
