I've been told that Magatron will be a tank and Soundwave will be the helicopter. I kind of like the way they are doing complex transformations for the characters like Optimus Prime, and not just flipping the head up and arms out. I wonder how long it took to create the transofrmations and how acurate they are from a spacial point of view.

Actually, spatial awareness is apparently one of the sticking points the director was going for- he wanted these to be actual possible transformations, not just "CGI... fold out.... they're robots!"

I'm actually looking forward to this movie, but every time I heard about leaked photos, I wasn't able to find them in time. :/

Really? I found a bunch of them. Bumblebee looks pretty good, and he's no longer a drekky VW Bug. Prime looks pretty good too, although he is a lot smaller in this version, so doesn't look as impressive as the original design. No definate pictures of Megatron yet. Some sketches show him as a wierd alien jet (which is stupid since there is no way in hell that wold blend in) and some photos show a really bad-hoop tank that is being labled Megatron.

Post by: Jester on February 09, 2007, 05:01:02 AM
man, I haven't seen any photos either. And the reason bumblebee isn't a VW is because VW wouldn't give them permision to use the car

Post by: Gabriel on February 09, 2007, 05:57:45 AM
I pretty much figured that this movies would be one big commercial for one or two different automotive manufacturers. There's no real reason some of the characters would be different vehicles accept for that.

Now see, personally, I think megatron as an alien jet is just plain stupid. Not like he can ever blend in like that. Or scorponaut. What the hell is a PREDICON doing in this movie???

Post by: Gabriel on February 12, 2007, 06:34:23 AM
Yeah yeah yeah. A movie has to make sense you know. Just having a bigf robot doesn't make a good movie. After all, X-3 had the best special effects of all of the X-Men movies, but the storylike sucked donky hoop.

Hopefully, the predacons and destructicons (who are also in the movie) are doing two things- fighting autobots and being awesome.

You know I watched the show as a kid and didn't really think about seeing the movie.  That was until I saw those drek hot pics!!!  Okay when does it come out? And can I buy my tickets ahead of time...oh yeah one more thing *calls boss 'uh yeah I'm gonna need off on X date'*

4th of July weekend, chummer. Fireworks and Autobots. Is there anything more american then celebrating with Chinese fireworks and Japanese CGI?? I think not! ;D

PS - Do you think after this movie car manufacturers will start offering Autobot packages on vehicles? Like the embossed Autobot symbol on the back of Ironside's tailgate?

That's like judging a tank based on the war it was used in. Nest you'll be telling me the German Tiger tank was a piece of drek because it belonged to the fraggin' Nazis. Every country in the Alliance admitted it was far better than anything we fielded.

So take THAT Kid-I-Don't-Like-Civics_Vid.

The tiger tank was a good machine, when it came to speed and maneuverability... actually, I'll be honest. I don't know anything about tanks. At all.

Of course, civics, those I see every day.

And if the tiger tank had been a symbol of the nazi party (jain, anyone?), like civics are a symbol of import racing, then yes, I would be justified in hating it.

Sucka.

Uhhh... they're robots. Technically sexless. But yeah, I think they were trying to appeal more to young girls right before the series got cancelled... then again, it came back when my baby brother was into cartoons and stuff, and was this whole CGI cartoon thing.

Man, the writing was aweful. But it was pretty awesome CGI.

At least they could shoot in Beats Wars. I've seen Optimus Prime shoot the the seatbelt off of spike from 100 yards while the kid was travelling 60 miles an hour, and then miss Megatron (an 80 foot tall robot) at point blank range while stationary. I hated that.

Title: Re:transformer
Post by: kv on February 16, 2007, 10:41:57 AM
Yeah, but hopefully this will be a lot better. From what I understand, the guys writing it were into the cartoon as kids (like we were) but now they're grown up, so they wanted a more grown up action movie to be awesome and excited about.

From what I've heard, they actually got what they wanted.

Nah, I liked the idea of him as a tank better. That made sense. The evil robot leader with a huge gun turning into a massive armored vehicle with a huge gun. What can i say, it made sense.

Gabriel
Title: Re:transformer

Title: Re:transformer
Post by: kv on February 17, 2007, 10:01:44 AM
Well, these guys grew up on the same TV that we (or at least I) did, and Megatron wasn't a tank. In fact, Megatron was one of the few who could change into more than one thing- he could be this futuristic jet-fighter (I didn't know what a F18 was back then) or this gun that the other decepticons could hold.

At least it was better than the transformer who turned into a cassette tape.

Title: Re:transformer
Post by: Gabriel on February 19, 2007, 05:09:51 AM
Your point isn't exaclty valid, Kid_Vid. Whenever a new transformers series started, they always reworked the characters and then stuck in Optimus Prime and Megatron to fit the setting. Megatron was a gun in the original (and if an 80' robot can become a small hand gun, then why can't a cassette tape become a 7' tall robot?) then he was melted down and turened into Galvatron in the movie and futuristic series that followed it. In that incarnation he was a huge cannon. In Beast Wars he was a T-Rex whose head became his main cannon and in Energon he was a massive tank.

So let's no mince words here, he has always been a a character with a huge main weapon. Turning him into a jet is just stupid. How many jets do you see with a massive main gun? None. Well, maybe the A-10, but you can only fire the main gun for 3 seconds or it slows the plane down. The point being, if htey had to rework the transformers to adhere to the Law of Conservation of Mass, then why not a tank? A plane needs to be streamlined, and one with a cannon like Megatron usually has in just not feasible.

Did we ever determine who the cassette tape transformer was?
Title: Re:transformer
Post by: kv on February 19, 2007, 09:04:34 PM
No, I don't remember, but I found out why I thought that megatron could be a jet or a gun.

After G1, restrictions went into effect in the US making it nearly impossible to make a toy gun. Megatron was "reborn" as a F-22 style stealth jet, so that he could continue to be merchandised, dispite there being no story of any kind to back up the change.

So I was thinking toy + character on cartoons = character.

Gabe, you were technically correct. ;D

Did we ever determine who the cassette tape transformer was?

Ravage, Rumble, Frenzy, and Laserbeak. There were four of them. Two were humanoids, one was a panther, and one was a bird. They popped out of Soundwave's chest as Decepticon reinforcments.

And Kid_Vid, you should know that Wikipedia is NOT a reliable source of information. I should smite you for even referenceing that site. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Wikipedia is as reliable, if not more, than other internet sources. Typically people with specalized information update the pages they are in the know about, with only the 'hot topic' pages, like Keith Olbermann or Bill O'Reilly getting changed back and forth according to 'page wars,' from thier respective fans and detractors.

But whateva. It where I look first, because if it doesn't have complete information, it gives me enough details to find complete information on my own.

I find that when I need to start research on something, Wikipedia is a good place to start. Especially when the articles are referenced, and you can look up the links on it to research the references they give.

I did a paper on scientific research into homosexuality, and wikipedia gave me some awesome references (specifically, an article in the Boston Globe about two studies about homosexuality and the brain).

I'm not saying that it's infallible, or that it's the be-all and end-all of reference materials, but it's where I look when I need a quick review of good information. If the page looks like it's been hit by trolls or code kiddies, I just hit a metasearch engine instead.

I did a paper on scientific research into homosexuality, and wikipedia gave me some awesome references (specifically, an article in the Boston Globe about two studies about homosexuality and the brain).

Do I want to know why you picked homosexuality???
Title: Re:transformer
Post by: kv on February 21, 2007, 11:05:25 AM
Because I wanted a logical and scientific argument against it. I've heard far too many times that homosexuality is "genetic" because people were "born that way," and it's bulldrek.

For instance, there were two competeing studies- one by a homosexual doctor in san diego, inspecting the brains of dead homosexual men (all of his test subjects died of AIDs, but that apparently wasn't considered a factor), and he found that the anterior commisure was larger in homosexual men than in heterosexual men. But... since all of the subjects died from AIDs, isn't it possible that the growth of the anterior commisure was because of the disease, rather than from a lifestyle choice.

Another of this guys' studies showed that when you have two identical twins (with identical DNA- which identical twins do have) that when one twin is gay, the other has a 50% chance of also being gay. 50%. Not 100%, which you would expect to see if this was a 'genetic' condition, not even 75%, which would indicate that it's a predisposition, with hormonal influence involved.

My argument is that he's using bad science (or presuming from results that he is correct in what ideas he already has... which is bad science), to support his theories, even when they're giving contradictory evidence, or even evidence that has no bearing on his argument.

But yeah... those transformers. Shia LeBeof is in this movie, right?

Title: Re:transformer
Post by: BornKrazi on February 21, 2007, 12:45:42 PM
Sorry not tryin to sway to far off topic, but to keep with what you researched.  Isn't it true that 10% of our DNA is still unmapped, which some scientists believe is our "soul"?  And if so, is it possible these "genetic" desires could be found there?  I don't really care what their choice is, everyone is allowed their own choice in life.  I don't agree with it, but that's just my opinion just like my asshole, its mine!

So yeah, when was this movie due to be released?
Title: Re:transformer
Post by: kv on February 22, 2007, 01:00:30 AM
If it was genetic, then two people with identical genes would have identical genetic expression. For instance, if two identical twins have family history of a certain type of cancer, only one of them needs to be tested for it, at least at a young age. Later in life other factors can come into play, but at young ages, identical twins are just that-identical.

The human genome is completely mapped. They're not sure what all the bits and peices do, but they know where all of them are, and they're constantly experimenting to see what the parts we don't understand do.

Not a lick of actual scientific research has ever corroborated the idea that homosexuality is genetic. Not one. Even the "esteemed" reports I found were poorly done, even if by expert researchers. I think one of the big problems is that no one is approaching this with an open mind. People expect to be proven right, and they find evidence that supports that theory, even if other evidence would normally lead them to question the findings.

I know a lot of people who say that homosexuality is genetic. I don't beleive that to be the case, and after all the research I've done, I'm not swayed in the slightest. Maybe that lumps me in with the people who refuse to see opposing evidence, but I actually approached my research in the honest desire to find fact. I found a lot of posteuring, and a lot of bad science, and a lot of quoted bible verses, but I didn't find anything that said that homosexuality is genetic. Or cause by physical anatomical differences. There is no difference between the brain of a healthy homosexual subject and a healthy heterosexual one, aside from slight brain pattern differences that differ between everyone- even identical twins.

*cough*

Okay, so I think this movie comes out over July 4th Weekend.

So are we in agreement that we all see this opening day then spending Saturday morning posting about it instead of watching cartoons?

Yeah, I think every nerd on the planet will line up to see a movie based on a cherished childhood memory NOT being sodomized, and I hope this teaches Hollywood to make more good movies. But who am I kidding? They made a live action movie version of Fat Albert, AND two Charlie's Angels movies.

This will probably make them want to do another one. *shudder with hate*

I grew up on the Bill Cosby jokes, and a little of the tv cartoon... so I was kinda horrified that they made it into a movie. I never saw it, but those were only two examples of the plethora of movies that have been (badly) made of classic cartoons.

Don't forget Josy and the Pussycats. Or the Flinstones, both 1 & 2. You just have to wonder who the hell green-lights these things...

The second one? Wrath of the Dragon God? The only thing that I didn't like about it was that the lich looked... dumb. Oh, and that they introduced a D&D-specific prestige class, namely, the wizard-priests.

I did think it was cool that the best friend priest got totally killed like fifteen minutes into the movie.

At least someone did some research. Most mass genre films have actors who have no idea what they are about.

Like Jeremy Irons is the D&D movie? (OOh! Three month old burn!)

Okay, now that more commercials and stuff are out there, what are everyone's thoughts on the Transformers movies? For me, I could care less if they use the 'original' cars from the cartoon, but the transformations look pretty damn cool.

Oh, and I heard Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith) is the voice of Megatron. :D

Thus far, it looks like Michael Bay might have actually been the right choice to direct this movie.
Weird. I feel like my world is upside down.

Well, this movie is coming out on the weekend I am scheduled to have moved 1000 miles from my home, so I think I will certainly need a bit of a pick-me-up. As for the transformations, I happen to think they should be a bit more vehicle-representative. And by that I mean that with the original toys and cartoon, when a transformer transformed, you got to see aspects of the vehicle it represented. Optimus Prime's chest windows, Megatron's bazooka, the winch on Prowl's chest, these are all links to the vehicles/object that represent the personality and character of the transformer. From the scenes I have watched of this movie, these touches seem to be greatly lacking. Of course, this may not be the case, as the commercials are very lean with the actual character scenes, but the mock-ups I've seen of Bumblebee and Prime were pretty definative.

A couple 30 second clips, but the transformations look awesome!

You know, I still don't think they look right. Oh well. I guess moving "liquid metal" lips would look a bit stupid in real life, too, so I guess this works.

Post by: Gabriel on April 24, 2007, 05:03:01 AM
Oh I do too! I just think they "look" of the transformers is a bit too modern. I like when an autobot LOOKED like an autobot. You know, incorporating elements of the actual car into the humaniod design. But when it comes right down to it, these are aliens, why would they evolve fenders and tires that look like earth vehicles in the first place?

Uhhh... they didn't. They adopted those disguises ("Robots in disguise") so that they could move around the country without creating panic.

I don't know exactly why decepticons did it, though. That part was never clear to me.

Well from what I gather, the one does sorta look like the car after it transforms.

In the original series on TV, the transformers looked the same in humaniod mode on Cybertron as on Earth. But when they transformed, they looked totally different. So, the elements of the humaniod modes that resembled ear vehicles (grills, windows, bumpers, etc.) had to become a part of an alien aspect. That's all I'm saying.

I havent cared for the previews Ive seen
its like they are making it a monster movie
It kinda reminds me of that Godzilla movie they made
like how all comic book movies have black leather or rubber
trying to make things that are already cool on their own "cool" in a  different way and losing what was cool about them in the first place

im nervous
