Ok. This is the new thread for the movie game, in which a random factoid, trivia bit, quote, or situation from a film is posted and then everyone tries to guess from which film it came from. It can be about the plot, setting, characters, the real life actors, or just something related to it.
Be warned. By nature of the game, some spoilers to certain movies may be present. Sorry for ruining it for you folks. ;) Play at your own risk.
The winner gets to post the new line, and if no one gets it after a reasonable amount of time, more hints can be added. These hints are more random factoids, trivia bits, quotes, or situations from the same film. Usually, the more obscure the film the better. The hardest part seems to be finding a line that doesn't give it all away, but still presents some possiblity to solving it as well. . .
In order to keep things running smoothly (since this thread is more interactive than the pictures thread), lets say that whomever posted the most recent line should check in frequently to add hints or see if someone guessed. Probably goes without saying though. How about the poster sends one new clue a day, and earns one point earned for each day your line spent unguessed? And a random award for the guesser who succeeds?
So to start off, here's my line.
"The main character time travels. . . with problems. . ."
P.S. IMDB and other sources that make it too easy are considered cheating. Try to figure stuff out by memory alone. Asking people you live with is ok though. Any comments or concerns? Let me know.
P.S.S. That should start you guessing, but shouldn't be too specific. New clue in one full day.

Movies only? No tv shows?
-kv
-
"The main character time travels. . . with problems. . ."
What is Quantum Leap?
-
What is Time Machine?
-
What is Back To The Future?
-
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey
Time Bandits
-
Timeline.
-
Hmm. I guess TV shows are okay too.
Good guesses so far, but not right.
Second Clue
"He's trying to stop the end of the world as he knows it."
-
A Sound of Thunder.
-
Batman, haha I have no idea... :D
-
Here's a quote.
"Don't mock me my friend. It's a condition of mental divergence. I find myself on the planet Ogo, part of an intellectual elite, preparing to subjugate the barbarian hordes on Pluto. But even though this is a totally convincing reality for me in every way, nevertheless Ogo is actually a construct of my psyche. I am mentally divergent, in that I am escaping certain unnamed realities that plague my life here. When I stop going there, I will be well. Are you also divergent, friend? "
-
Wait, the one with Kevin Spacey where he thinks he's an alien, and everyone else thinks that he's crazy?
-
KPAX!
-
Here's a quote.
Ha Ha.....I know this now, I think:-\...The movie with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt. I remember the scene in the movie now. If it's not this then I don't have a clue.
What is Twelve Monkeys? Is that it?
-
Yeah 12 Monkeys is the movie you're thinking about
-
Okay, APOC, take it from the top!
(You guessed it- so it's your turn to pick a movie)
-kv
-
yea, APOC 8) congratulations!!! I never heard of that movie before..
-
Yeah Apoc got it! And Nike, you should watch it. It's a good "make you think" movie. Like the first Matrix.
And you can all answer in the form of an answer if you want. Or in the form of a question. Or in the form of a haiku, sonnet, moving rock ballad, or freestyle rap if you want. . .
-
Oh drek I can work on my freestyle?! Oh fo shizzle my nizzle!
-
Thanks chummers.
Okay, my first clue is:
It's a movie about smart people (really smart people) and it was one of the two movies that made this actor famous.
-
Real Genius, Val Kilmer.
-
curse you KV! That was my guess, lol
-
It was everybody's guess...
-
Idiocracy?
-
What is ???
-
If you are asking a question, Krazi, then Idiocracy is a movie by the guys who did Office Space. It was my guess, but likely, wrong.
Or was your guess a frowning face?
-
Real Genius, Val Kilmer.
I thought it might be too easy but I wanted to try anyway. You got it KV.
Take it away. ;D
-
Holmes with a twist.
-
Mr. MaGoo.
-
Okay that was kinda vague, but What is Life is Sweet?
-
Next clue Kid?
-
Sherlock Holmes is a made-up character.
-
I still have no clue
-
Well, that is the point of a good hint. To appear to give you information, without giving you anything of value at all. Just ask Elena how awesome my hints are. ;D
-kv
-
If by 'awesome' you mean hellaciously frustrating, then yes; his hints are awesome. :-\
-
Yeah, that's what I meant.
-kv
-
Holmes is fictional in every venue in which he appears, Kid :p
Still, I'll guess the very obscure: They Might Be Giants
-
So is it safe to assume that nobody has gotten it right yet?
-
No- if they had, I would have congratulated them and let them take over the game.
-kv
-
Arthur Conan Doyle : The filmed Autobiography?
-
Hey do I detect a sense of hostility in your voice there Kid? I know this movie sounds familiar, if I remember right it might've been an investigator similiar to Sherlock Holmes, and sorta idolized him. But then again I might've just dreamt that one night while thinking about it. Hmmm.... my next guess will have to be: What is The Maltese Falcon?
-
No, no hostility. Wait... wasn't the Maltese Falcon a Raymod Chandler story?
Nope, this movie contains an actor playing Sherlock and the faithful Dr. Watson.
-
I think, at this point, it wouldn't hurt to be a little more specific, hon.
-
What? It's only been two days! (I'm not counting the weekend, because no one was on then)
Okay, so for the new hint, I'll restate the hint I just so slyly gave:
"An actor plays Holmes, accompanying Dr. Watson."
-kv
-
Yes it was a Raymod Chandler story, and I'm just gonna go out on a limb here since maybe we are reading WAY to deep in it, but I'm just gonna guess the obvious. What is The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes?
-
I'm on on the weekends. Here everyday in fact. . .
"Case Closed"?
-
No, but you guys are getting closer.
-kv
-
New hint:
Sherlock Holmes is played by an idiot actor. Dr. Watson is the real genius behind the 'sleuth.'
-kv
-
I am 90% sure that I have seen this movie before. Several times, in fact. I just can not for the life of me place the name. . .
-
Yeah I'm with Curris...it sounds extremely familiar but I can't think of the name either.
-
New hint:
Sherlock Holmes is played by an idiot actor. Dr. Watson is the real genius behind the 'sleuth.'
-kv
It's not Dressed to Kill is it? Sounds close but I could be way off.
-
Ahhhh! Not George C Scott as Holmes but Michael Caine! That's where your Dressed to Kill thing came from no doubt. I believe it was calle Without a Clue. Ben Kingsely played Watson.
-
Very good, Ms. Zone. You are correct. It was one of my favorite movies growing up.
"I can't believe you said he was beat to death with a blunt excrement!"
"It's not my fault your handwriting is so terrible!"
It's now Zone's turn to pick a movie.
-kv
-
Congrats Zone. Game on.
-
Hmmm. Okay....
Boom. Big Boom. With Germans.
-
Big bombs? Like... nuke big?
I got nothin'. Das Boot?
-kv
-
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Ark?
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?
-
saving private ryan?
-
what is Jar Head!
-
I knew someone would go the Indy route :)
next clue...
Prewar. With a Hogan's Heroes Alumnus.
-
The Big Red One?
-
I almost want to say Captain America, because I think in the newer versions of the storyline, Red Skull and the Nazis develop nukes, and that's why Cap goes in to fight.
-kv
-
That makes me think Justice League Unlimited, or the League of Extrordinary Gentlemen. . .
-
Yeah, it's not those, though. I figure we'll have to wit for Zone's new hint.
-kv
-
No helium for you! Hydrogen!
-
Is there a movie about the Hindenburg?
-
"Oh, the humanity..."
Where's that head smacking smilie....
-
So... hydrogen bomb... "Oh, the humanity?"
I'm confused. Which one is the hint?
-kv
-
They both are! :banghead:
-
The only thing that I know is that this quote was originally by the reporter that saw the Hindenburg crash. However, I'm not sure about the movie unless it is
Top Secret with Val Kilmer
-
The only thing that I know is that this quote was originally by the reporter that saw the Hindenburg crash.
Better clue than I've apparently been giving....
-
Well drek, since we all know it's about the Hindenburg, what is The Hindenburg?
-
Thank you!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073113/
Now go watch it!
-
You know the ironic thing about all this is that I've never seen it, never really even heard of it. But one of my history teachers mentioned it in High School and so I simply guessed that not even thinking it was right!
Okay so I debated for a while about which movie to pick, being that you all know my favorite movies already, those were out of the question. So here we go...
Hint: This movie has a couple famous people in it, but the main stars aren't even actors.
-
bowling for colombine
-
hhhmmmmm... stars aren't really actors?
Gone in 60 Seconds?
-kv
-
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back?
-
Is there a movie about the Hindenburg?
I feel robbed. . . ::)
As for my guess. . .
Moulin Rouge?
-
KV - What I meant by there are famous people, but those who actually star in the movie are not considered celeb's...
So far nobody got it, I'll leave another clue in a little bit if nobody gets it.
-
Hint: It's got a 70's theme to it, and Sugarbear's lines always rhyme!
-
starsky and hutch
-
New Hint: Mick Foley has a cameo in it, and it also stars one of the Jerky Boys (who is actually wearing a fat suit during the entire movie), oh and let's not forget that one guy from Half Baked.
-
dear lord I have no idea!
-
Well the reason I picked this movie was because I doubt any of you ever saw it, so I'll give the final hint that is an instant give away.
Hint: It is the first (and only movie so far) Insane Clown Posse put out!
-
what is Big Money Hustlers?
-
CORRECT!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0193007/
It's kinda a dumb movie, but it's funny to watch at least once. If you go to YouTube.com you can watch the movie (the best quaility one is broken into different parts) it's about an hour and a half long.
-
Okay, Nike. Your turn to pick a movie!
-kv
-
I think she is tryin to think of a good movie...
-
Ok here we go...I had a difficult time choosing a movie, lol...Good Luck!
HINT: It is based on a true story and it came out in 2004, it involves a young couple..
-
What is damn I don't remember the name, but I think I know what you are talking about...
-
What is damn I don't remember the name, but I think I know what you are talking about...
Yay! I got it right on the first try...but since I already guessed one, and Nike wants a chance for someone else to guess it I'm gonna sit this one out.
-
Uhhh... 2004, eh? What is Amnityville Horror?
-kv
-
no its not it..Bornkrazi u got it right so go ahead and pick another movie...I dont care
-
Do you want me to give them a hint?
-
They go scuba diving in it
-
Deep Blue?
Open Water?
-kv
-
ding ding...You are CORRECT!!!!
-
Wait... which one was correct?
-kv
-
lol, sorry Open Water was the correct answer..
-
Okay, since I already had a turn, I nominate... Gabe.
-kv
-
Two days and no Gabe. I think you better run with it Kid...
-
This movie stars one of my favorite actors, a young man with a pechance for voice acting. Other than him, this movie is really a drag.
-kv
-
garden state
-
This movie also has one of the guys from Half-Baked in it (not my favorite), and he hooks up with a french chick.
-
OH that sounds familiar...lemme marinate on it!
-
what is Dumb and Dumber
-
One of the guys from Half-Baked that hooks up with a French chic?
I know the actors from Half-Baked or at least partially.
Dave Chappelle--comedian, Jim Breuer--comedian, Harland (something)--I just remember hartland from some reason, and finially, the Díaz guy (same family name as a good friend). This is the only actors that I remember from Half-Baked. However, I can't think of anything that has any of them with a French chic.
I was thinking Dumb-Dumber as Nike said, or Terminal?
-
It also "Stars" Barry What's-his-name from Seventh Heaven. And I cleverly disguised it, but when I said the movie was a drag, I meant some of the actors are dressed in drag.
-
What is Soroity Boys?
-
That's the one!!!
So it's your turn again, Nike.
-
OMG, wow I thought that was it but wasnt sure..Ok let me think of one.
-
OK, This movie stars an actor that often works with George de la Pena and Cynthia Rhodes.
-
I recognize the two names but they are a bit older actors and I can't recall any movies exactly that they worked on.
Next hint, please.
-
It's very romantic and heart warming, put it to you like this, it keeps you moving through the whole movie...It looks like it would take place in 1963.
-
The movie stars Jennifer Gray...
-
LOL..I know who she is but I can't think of a movie with a 60's feel that she was in.
She was in Dirty Dancing, Ferris Bueller, Red Dawn, etc. Big 80's movie actor but you still have me stumped.
Drek this Dragon's memory. ;)
-
What is Dirty Dancing!!!
-
ding ding , that is correct.....congrats ;)
-
ahh..I should have answered. Oh well.
Next batter up!
-
Uhhh... Apoc... you did say Dirty Dancing... didn't you?
-kv
-
Yeah, but not officially. It's fair I think and I like guessing so it's cool.
We should say the answer had to be in the form of a question then it will make it better. ;D
-
Are you sure? Because you did mention it..It's up to you and Krazi...
-
Let Krazi have it. He officially said it where mine was more of throw-out with multiple guesses.
Bring it on Krazi.... ;D
-
Alright only if you're sure... thanks, but you did answer it... either way I'll go ahead and go, cuz I want to appease the dragon!
Hint: This movie came out in 1990, it won 5 oscars and was nominated for many more...
-
what is Goodfellas?
-
Next hint: The main characters tag line is "I'm on my way."
-
what is Dick Tracy? I have a big feelong this is it but dont know for sure.. ;)
-
Correct, I wonder how you knew that :-X
-
it really doesnt matter how I knew that ;), but I pass my play to Apoc...
-
Okay, I gladly accept.
Here's the hint.....
"I want my two dollars."
-
"Better off Dead," with John Cusack.
-kv
-
LOL..I figured it was too easy but I had to try.
It's all yours Kid...:kid:
-
We'll start with a quote:
"Oh, my! I forgot. I turned it off! "
-
AHA! Star Wars IV: A new hope!
Threepio to R2D2, trash compactor scene.
That got in my head and bothered me to no end, becuase I KNEW that I KNEW IT!
-
Dammit! I thought I would stump you guys!
-kv
-
You almost did. I had about 30 wrong guesses bouncing in my head. (I love Star Wars, but I haven't seen it in years. . . .)
So, my hint.
"Does it have a happy ending? "
"As only celluloid can deliver."
"OK. Put the sword away."
-
... are those from one conversation, or all from one movie?
because... that conversation is whack.
-kv
-
In answer to your question, yes, yes, and yes. In that order.
-
I got this one. I haven't seen the movie but we do trivia at work and this came up.
I was like, "What the frag is that?"
It's V for Vendetta.
-
Oh, wow. In context, that even makes sense. When V is talking to Evee, and she's asking about the Count of Monte Cristo. Gotcha.
-kv
-
Correct! The hardest part was picking a good quote from the hundred of good quotes.
Well done.
-
This may be easy again but I wanted to try.
"Get busy livin or Get busy dying."
-
Shawshank Redemption. Good movie, with good advice.
-
Yeah, I figured somebody would get it fast. Okay.
Take it away. ;D
-
"Ow! It bit me!"
"What'd you EXPECT fairies to do?"
"I thought they did nice things, like granting wishes!"
"Shows what YOU know, don't it?"
A dialogue clip.
-
frag I know that dialogue but can't for the life of me remember the name of the movie
-
I have no idea, but I'm always good for a guess- Hook?
-kv
-
Nope. But I am glad that it's triggering some brain cells. I was wondering if this one was too obscure. . .
-
I think I know this but I want to give somebody else a chance first. My daughter watches this all the time so I have the movie memorized almost.
Starts with an "L".
-
I was going to give a hint, but Apoc already did. (You are correct sir.)
As it is, I watched it plenty in my younger days, and my sister does/did too! Still one of my favorites
-
Being that no one else has any remaining guesses, I will say that Apocalypse wins this round. The word you are thinking is correct, you may take the next round.
Labyrinth is the name of the movie.
David Bowie, and many Jim Henson puppets. Jennifer Connely stars in it as well. Good fantasy flick.
-
Thank you very much.
Here's my hint:
"Hey... I don't have all the answers. In life, to be honest, I have failed as much as I have succeeded. But I love my life. I love my wife. And I wish you my kind of success."
Good Luck! ;D
-
I see no takers yet. Here is the second hint. You'll get it with this quote.
"Show me the money!"
-
god! I knew I'd heard that quote before! I couldn't remember where. I wsa hoping to get another clue.
-
Any guesses yet? If you need another hint then I can.
-
Jerry Maguire...but it looks like everyone quit playing, lol
-
I'll still play. But it seemed pretty obvious to me that you knew what movie it was before I did.
I never actually got around to seeing Jerry Maguire, so I only know quotes that were in the commercials for it.
-kv
-
ok, then here goes...famous black comedian stars in this movie
-
Beverly Hills Cop? The Nutty Professor (remake), Haunted Mansion?
-
samual jackson makes a cameo
-
What is Coming to America?
He's the guy who tries to rob the restaurant.
-
apoc wins!
-
damn nice one apoc...
-
Thanks. Here's my hint for my next movie. Little bit tough if you don't know it.
"I know a little German. He's sitting over there."
-
Okay, my next hint.
This is a comedy movie from the 80's. One scene involves the famous actor going in the top vent on a wall then tumbling back down on the same floor. The drop was about 3 feet or so. It's a classic scene and extremely funny.
-
Top Secret?
-
You got it, KV.
I wasn't sure somebody was going to get it. It's a bit of a rare movie but pretty funny.
It's your turn.
-
Here's the quote/conversation:
"How much did you take off?"
"..."
"How much did you take off?"
"I added..."
"What?"
-
"You want to know what the worst thing in the world is? To not know your place..."
-
Sounds familiar but I'm still thinking.... ;)
-
"How many days in your life have you been sick?"
-
Unbreakable?
-
That's the one!
-kv
-
You had me on that one. Sounded familiar but couldn't place it.
Great Job, Z-Girl.
Take it away 8)
-
I happened to be watching it when you said that I had picked the right movie, so I put up the most obscure quote from it that I could think of.
And then a slightly easier one.
-kv
-
I've still never seen that one
-
I highly reccommend it, unless someone has already ruined the ending. Like most Shyamalan movies, they are SOOOoooOOOOO much better if you don't already know the ending.
But anyway- Zone's turn!
-kv
-
yea, someone did. Sounded dumb. Anyway, go zone ;D
-
The WAG takes it.
Okay....
"Unemployed in Greenland."
-
The Princess Bride. :D
-
Yeah, that would have been my guess too. But Elena guessed it first.
Unless, by some coincidence, it's another movie with the exact line from "The Princess Bride."
-kv
-
lol, I don't even remember that line
-
Bingo
-
Person #1: "What have you seen today?"
Person #2: "Nothing good."
