Well if goes as dark as Batman Begins (which it appears so) then I'm totally excited. And from the sound of it they got good old Jack to return as Joker (or rather this would yet still be before the first "Batman"), which is double brownie points for me  8)

Actually, Heath Ledger is the Joker. If you look around, you can find a picture of him in his makeup- and he looks like he describes it- a really scary clown.

I'm actually excited for a few reasons-First, they MIGHT show the Joker's true origins, which would be awesome. Second, they're dealing with something that I think I've only ever seen in Frank Miller's books- how Batman feels about copycat vigilanteism. And Third, we get to see Harvey Dent as a good guy- something that hasn't been covered since Billy Dee Williams held the role in good ol 1990.

I'm really excited about this movie.

Don't worry about it- I think ol Heath was actually trying for the same raspy voice that Nicholson used in the 90s Batman movie (we'll call it "The only good one" as sort of a code).

Well, I don't know if that'll be a good code- since Batman Begins was pretty friggin awesome, and I'm betting/hoping/wishing that Dark Knight is just as awesome.

Uhhh... I think that's one of the fan-made posters. The ones I saw of the Joker made him look a lot scarier.

Let me look...

That, combined with that mad-man laugh and rant from the trailer, makes me very very happy.
The real Joker!

Yeah see now I'm excited!  :o  If it's half as good as Batman Begins it will be awesome.  Plus I've been greatly anticipating when they would show the "real" Joker (as in his youthful years and the great battles between him and the DARK KNIGHT). Although I still would have liked to see Nicholson play him, but he is pretty old now  :(

Yeah, I know he still has the comedic timing, but I don't know that Nicholson is still in shape to play the insane clown part again.

I am really excited about Ledger, though. I hope it's a good movie.

That's a good point, because my guess is the action scenes will be insane!

I just hope he can get the insanity right. The Joker has been potrayed in a number of ways, but I'm realy hoping for the Joker a la "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker." But that's just me.

I've always like Mark Hamel's joker the best. It's the laugh...

I like Mark Hamil's voice as the Joker, and I kinda liked the character from "Return of the Joker," but the animated version was always a little too goofy. I really want to see the Joker like in "Dark Knight Returns," the one who was lethal, crazy, and just... a formidable enemy for the dark knight.

I always thought that the Joker was a good match for Batman, because the only good counter for a truly great detective would be a madman who works in no patterns.

I'd love to see THAT version of the Joker.

Batman: Year One
Dark Knight Returns
Batman: The Long Halloween

All great reads. Only the second one has anything about the joker- although just like in Batman Begins, they mention him on the very last page of Batman: Year One.

P.S. Catwoman looks hot all bondage like that.

I actually meant to say "dominatrix," but I'm glad to have added to Gabe's spank bank.

Yeah, in Batman: Year One, catwoman is all dressed up in black leather. Oh, and she's a hooker. Aside from that, she's a very empowered woman, and I actually really liked the character (and hated the movie- I'm hoping horrible things happen to whoever decided that movie was good enough to be released- well, the people who did that and Electra). I just wish they had done justice to the character, an empowered woman who doesn't follow the rules.

Oh, and no magic cats. Stupid Spiderman was a success, so now everyone has to get bitten by a radioactive/magic animal to get thier powers. It's stupid. Catwoman is just bad-assed.

I actually like the Catwoman character. And again, it is a character that has been done in many different way. In fact DC canon actually has Selina Kyle as a hooker at one point, so that aspect isn't far off.

I will, however, protest that not a single one of the incarnations before the *shudder* movie included Selina Kyle being an interior designer or her being bitten by a magic cat.

Canon on Selena Kyle is that her birthplace and parents are contested- it's never clearly stated (except in "Rome" which covers the time between "Batman: Year One" and her official appearance in the continuity of the comics) that she's the son of Falcone, but it is implied and hinted at an awful lot. Which explains why she always seemed to target mob bosses for her robberies.

She's a son of Falcone? That's a neet trick. What does she do with her penis when she transforms into Catwoman?

She had it cut off. That's why she's Cat-WOMAN.

I misspoke.

Now that's dedication to a job. Wanna be a prostitue/cat burglar/vigilante sir???

Why, yes I do.

Then we'll need to cut off your penis and fit you up for a leather body stocking.

WHERE DO I SIGN UP!?!?!?!?

IIRC the role has been tackled by: Eartha Kitt, Lee Merriweather, Halle Barre, and Michelle Pfiffer.  I think I'm missing one, though.

Wasn't Eartha Kitt the original Cat Woman?

Julie Newmar was the original Catwoman. Eartha Kitt was "Catwoman #2."

Lee Merriweather played Catwoman in Batman: The Movie (with the bat-boardshorts and the bat-copter... and the octopus. *shudder*)

But a surprising number of women have played the role of Selena Kyle.

This is by no means a complete list.

Julie Newmar! That's the one I was thinking of.

Adrienne Barbeau was the only other one on that list I'd heard of.

Michelle Pfeifer played Catwoman too, but I won't blame you for Highlander:II-ing it into non-existence.

Or the Joker will get you- at least Batman will leave you alive when he's done.

Tortured to death is the literal term, although it might feel a lot worse while you're experiencing it.

it'll have to be a new joker, seeing as how the old one died
and here I was hoping that he would live through this movie...

Okay, since Dark Knight made like 155 million dollars it's opening weekend, I think it might be said that a few of us have seen it.

What did everyone think? (I'll post my review once more people have posted)
