Oh, I agree. The only bachelor/stag night sort of thing I've taken part in arranging, was a bit like that too, only more so.
He was fetched from his home early in the morning, given a shield and a latex sword, as well as a costume. Then moved off-site to a ruin we knew, were he had to fight off the "ravening horde" (the rest of us, in similar get-ups, mostly) to find the clue. Then back into town for a quick round of laser tag, then he was accompanied down through the city center (still in costume and with latex sword etc, the guy walking with him was in a rather ugly wizard's out fit.) to 3 posts where he had to answer series of questions to gain the next clue, oh, and lunch.
It was the "getting killed" bit I commented on, and no, for once I wasn't particularly sarcastic.

After lunch, we took jim out to an area near town where the viking markets take place and the viking groups practice (a bit like ren-fair, but with better research on average. Way better.) Here he had to walk along a path, through a number of "ambushes", before it was revealed that the "wizard" who'd helped him along was the bad guy, and had to be felled as well. And then we went to someone's place to eat plenty of beaf
