we've been playing L5R for a few months now. We have a Hida bushi, Shosuro Shinobi (me), kakita bushi, murimoto bushi, and an osana-wo monk. So far we've started a battle on the docks of Toshi Ranbo, watched the dragon duel more than the crane, broke up an assassination plot against the emporer, met the emporer, and are now in the shadowlands looking for the crane's uncle who disapeared there. Pretty sure he's a lost now. I'm really liking this game. The mechanics are good and it can be very dangerous. Thank the fortunes for the monk or I'd be in trouble right now

Yes, the machanics can be pretty deadly, which is one of the things I like about it.
Mind you, our primary warrior-type is a Crane trained as a dragon, who also has reflexes 4, so she doesn't get hit a lot. The other is a miromoto bushi who's a tad uncertain about his skill with a sword, but really likes books.
Nice team, actually. I'm expecting a kakita bushi later, but not for a few months I think.

3rd edition. And thanks for the clicky, I'll check that out in a few minutes. We played yesterday. Had a good game. Still haven't found the crane's uncle Hohiro, Made it to the wall of bone just in time to help the lost kill The Maw. We met 3 lost while roaming in the shadowlands and helped them kill an oni and some bakemono. The crab struck up a deal with them and we've been in kind of a loose alliance. The monk and I aren't happy at all with the alliance. But since we are at the wall of bone we can't really express our opinions at the moment being WAAAAY outnumbered.

Goodie!
I'm thinking about sending the group to Phoenix province, as part of an honour gaurd for a dragon diplomat.
This should lead to some interesting problems as both the dragon and the phoenix have secrets they are less than happy to share. Perhaps there should also be a a few other diplomatic delegations there, just to spice things up.

oh yea, that should be really interesting. Especially since the Phoenix and Dragon use to be at war.

We played again today
My group was invited to be part of the aforementioned diplomatic group, and went off from Dragon lands to Phoenix lands. In the no-man's land in between, they came across a young crying farmer. Bandits had just raided his home and stolen his wife.
So they set off after them (with permission from the mission leader).
They shot a number of them with bows (high reflexes all around).
Then attacked the bandits in their lair.
The low-level bandits were just cannon fodder, but their leader was actually supposed to be a challenge. Nope. The Crane just spat on the ground, attacked, and killed him, clean as you'd like.
She got an extra XP for coolness.

lol awesome. Our campaign ended yesterday. We made it to the wall of bone just in time to see it being attacked by a buncha Oni. We got as far from the main battle as possible and still had to fight a few. Our Kakita bushi almost got tainted but made his hinor roll with ease. We get over the wall and make our way into the city. Our guides took off to defend the wall and they said they'd return. Welp everyone but me wanted to go help. F the lost IMO. So I stayed back and kinda watched. The lead oni manages to bust down the door and get in. So the monk, crab, and dragon jump on it. The monk hits it with an atemi strike and paralizes it then the crab mops up. Everyone cheers as the rest of the oni run off demoralized. Daigotsa walks up and talks abit and allows the crane to duel his uncle. The time comes and the crane wins easily. We are allowed to leave and make it back to the Kaiu Wall. That is where it ended. Our GM needs a break so one of the other guys will be running for a while. So we're now gearing up for D&D. We're it takes place during the first crusades. I'm playing a paladin. The rest of the group are playing a fighter, master of chains, cleric, rogue, and bard. Pretty well rounded. I'll keep you posted on how that goes. Should be interesting
