Okay here you go:
base 2: very simple. you've probibly heard of it. it's binary.
when you count it goes something like this:
0
1
10
11
100
101
111
1000
1001
etc
base ten is even more common. (that's what everyone uses)
0

Hex is base 16 (also known as hexadesamal)

so, then you take Douglas Adams joke of life the universe and everything.
6X9=42
(6X9=54 if you use a calculator) to this he responded that there is something mathmaticly wrong with the universe, and it was a nice funny joke.
someone with too much free time on their hands figured out that if you use base 13 (as opposed to base 10) that 6X9 does end up as 42
to this, Douglas Adams wrote that no one writes jokes in base-13, mostly telling people that whoever took the time to figure that out; has way too much time on their hands.
then neo took it a step further and said that he wanted to write a joke in base 13. (mostly because if someone says it can't be done, that's a good motavational factor for most of us nerds)
i responded that it could be done, but no one finds math jokes funny, and went on to give him a nice famous math joke, that only nerds tend to find funny.
He took that a step further and showed me that he'd heard of Goedel, and also didn't find the joke that funny.
Then Luna laughed for some reason. I don't know why. I doubt it was the bit about Goedel.
then I started writing this post, that also isn't funny. *shrug* but perhaps informative.
