I've actually heard that Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is his high point- I did an article on him for the paper when he committed suicide, about how he wanted his ashes shot out of a cannon, which I thought was pretty cool, and how he shaved his head bald when he ran for sherrif, and referred to his republican rival as "my long-haired opponent"

So he did do some cool stuff. But he's a little too Timothy Leary meets Rush Limbagh for me.

He was shot out the cannon.

Was in the shape of a double thumbed fist holding a peyote cap. They had to take it down but they are looking for a perm place to put it. Johnny Dep funded the whole thing pretty much.

I hadn't heard about the peyote cap... are you sure about that?

My research said it was the double-fisted logo he used on everything else.

I'm not suprised the Johnny Depp funded it- there's a whole group of (more or less) young hollywood stars that thought of him as "Uncle Gonzo" - Benicio Del Toro as well. (I don't remember the rest of the list, but I knew almost everyone on there- because they're rich and famous)

I still think it's kinda creepey that he decided that his life was 'done' and killed himself.

celebrity experences massive drug use, and makes a movie about it = cult following.

he did some pretty 'zaney' stuff; like run for office, based solely on legalizing drugs, and he had a particular style of journalism that was flashey so a lot of people liked it.

Quasi-Journalist, Father of "Gonzo", and often credited as the 'godfather' of the modern blog.

He did some funny things, but mostly he was a really screwed up guy.

I did a paper on him for my journalism class when he committed suicide last year. So I only know what he said about himself, and what other people said about him when he died.

I'm no expert- I'm not even really a fan- I just know one or two things.
