from what I read, he left enough notes to finish it.

This has been my favorite series of books for the longest time, and I'm sad to see it end- a few books in the middle were... not very good. They were long, and took forever to get through, but I really loved the early books, and most of the middle books, and the last book was incredible. He wrapped up so many plotlines that I was shocked.

I know he was battling colon cancer, and I'm sad to hear of his death, but only because I loved his books so much. I guess it's kind of selfish for me to want to know how the series ended, but that's all I have of him. I will miss his writing, and I'm sure that I'll love playing the RPG he made for his world for years to come.

According to his obit, he was going to conclude Wheel of Time with a 1500 page magnum opus.  He didn't finish it before his death, but reportedly left notes indicating how he intended everything to wrap up.  The decision to go ahead or not with a ghost writer/posthumous release is in the hands of his widow and the prez of Tor books.

One of the resons he didn't finish, apparently was he was also outlining his next series; the one he planned on starting when he recovered from the blood disease.  He had been in remission for a bit, I guess the disorder came back with vengence.

Hunny read all of the wheel I'm afraid I got horribly bored with the whole thing about book 5 and gave it up as  a lost cause.

On jordan's blog, the widow indicated the series will be completed... for those of you who didn't give it up 8 books ago.

Yeah, Rigney had a bunch of writing assistants and stuff, so there are pages and pages of notes about how everything is going to turn out, as well as hours of audiotape of him talking about the ending of the book... although nobody but a select few have ever heard it.

Wouldn't be hard to find a ghostwriter, and I can't imagine that he (or his widow) would be okay with leaving the ending of the story un-told.

I hate to hear about him dieing, but I really did start to get sick of those books. A run-away, out of control plot line is not "complex" and "imaginative". It's just run-away and out of control. But again, I know a lot of people really liked them, and I will admit he had some great ideas and plotlines mixxed in with all of the other junk. So I hope that those of you who liked his work and look forward to the Magnum Opus will enjoy how it turns out if they ever publish it.
