So, does somebody have the answer or is everybody trying to guess and figure it out?

How do you get 6/4? Lined Coat gives you 4/2, and full FFBA gives 4/1 (halved to 2/0), giving 6/2. And Full Suit FFBA has a hood, granting head protection.

Specific damage locations in an abstract combat system like Shadowrun's is a Bad Idea™. The Called Shot rules have been errata'ed into a joke. The best way to deal with it is the original rule, which grants a +2 power in exchange for a +4 attack TN penaly (+2 with SL2).

(without reading the preceeding topic...)
I thought a Called Shot gave +1 DL, rather than +2 power, and only counted the armour on the specific area targeted - which means head shots are quite deadly, if you can hit (+4TN).

Of course, that might just be how we play(ed) it.

Oops, yep. Called Shot is +1 DL / +4 TN (+2 w/ SL2)

As for armor effects, that is a seperate (and officially new) issue. It is an option, but not usable with the +1 DL. Still get the +4 TN though.

I'll give you the latest errata ...

Quote
Do called shots in ranged combat bypass armor, like they can in melee combat?
When handling called shots, for either melee or ranged combat, gamemasters should use the rules on p. 114, SR3 (ie., calling a shot is a Free Action, called shots receive a +4 target number modifier, etc) along with the following rules. The player calling the shot can choose one result from the following three options:

1. The Damage Code is increased by one Level (as stated on p. 114, SR3). The target's regular armor applies.

2. The attack bypasses the target's armor. In this case, the attack's Damage Code is not modified, but the Power is not reduced by armor bonuses. (Note that the attacker can simply choose a location on the target that is less armored, rather than bypassing the armor completely, so that only the armor in that location applies).

3. Target a smaller part of a larger target (such as the tires on a vehicle).

I don't use the second option, as it really messes with the abstract armor system in Shadowrun. Instead I modify the third to allow a character to shoot 'for effect', like knocking a gun from an opponent's hand, or shooting a fleeing slob in the leg.

Whoops, sorry about that. I went back an looked at Gabriel's sheet and it is a 6/3. Rounding down armor is stupid, and we don't do it. So we still devide by 2 for the layering, but the armor will provide a minimum of 1 point. So the rating comes out to be 6/3. As for the head, that is straight FFBA if we are wearing the hood/goggles at the time.

As for figuring out hit location, we use the original BattleTech hit location table. It gives a 1 in 36 chance of hitting the head naturally, but most damage goes to the Left/Center/Right torsos, so armor tends to be used as normal. The fun comes in when you hit an arm, leg, or head. The way we figure it, no matter what kind of armor you have on your head, a bullet hitting it is going to hurt, so no matter if you shrug it off or not physically, you still get Stun damage equal to the unmodified Damage Level. So being hit in the head by a predator will give you a Medium Stun no matter what, you still have to shrug off the nomral physical damage in the normal way.

Rollplaying aspect?? WHAT rollplaying aspect?? BattleTech was all about kicking hoop and tacking names. I used to LOVE that game. No one to game with anymore, though. :'( And the rules got so nit-picky that it was almost impossible to actually PLAY a game without cheating and not even knowing you were doing it.

They had a whole RP aspect where you could walk arround outside your Mech, buy shoes, and that sorta thing. trouble is, with grand scale combat like that, everyone has 1 HP worth of life. so you die even easyer than in shadowrun, and the game mechanics outside of the mechs sucked.

so, the RP aspect was like the plot in a porn movie... just an excuse to get to the action.
