Tagalog or Togolog, acording to my source. Except ofcourse that there are (IIRC) hundreds on languages in the philipines, so it just might be that the kid knew how to spell the language he speaks, and was refering to one of the others, perhaps?

I used to work with a woman from the Philippines, and I thought that was how she pronounced it, but I could be wrong.

Tagalog and Sebuano are the two main languages, but no, I meant Tongan (as in peoples from the Kingdom of Tonga). It's a Pacific Islander language.

Okay, the tongan wasn't because  of a girl- it was a church thing. I was living in Mt. Druitt, which is 99.95% tongan, samoan, and cooka islanders. Mostly tongan and samoan. No white people around at all.

Anyway, I started learning tongan and samoan so I could talk to people- a lot of them would play off like they didn't speak english, and some of them really didn't speak it at all. So I picked up a couple of languages, and haven't really used them at all since.

No, but I did have a girl give me a tagalog book- when I asked her why I would need to know tagalog, she told me "So you can talk to your in-laws!"

And I suddenly realized what it was she was saying.
