So... we're keeping it becuase it's always been here? Isn't that one of those logical fallacies I've heard about?

Honestly, what purpose does it serve? It's here to post nothings in- whether they be inane, just a single word (pad) or off every other topic on the board.

I will admit that I would be happy to have everyone pad thier postcounts until PB is off the top 15 posters, but after that, what real purpose does it serve?

It serves as a place to post all of those comments and topics that have nothing to do with anything at all. A place to blow off steam and just be inane. IT also serves as a place for new posters to build up to custom icons, better status, and custom tag lines. This thread is as neccessary to the pub as bullets are to a street sammy.

Kid, I'd say that this thread is indeed what Gabe claims.  On a board called the Straight Dope they have a whole section devoted to Mostly Pointless Stuff I Must Share.  Here we only have the one thread.  It serves a purpose and more than just a a post padder in my opinion.
