How about this:

1)entrust something of marginal value to the corp
2)Go in and steal it (among other things)
3)THEN sue the coporation for losing whatever you gave them?

Actaully, that' not a bad idea. You need to have a decent amount of inside information, though. But if you have that set-up, then I'm sure you could make a good amount of nuyen.

It would require a SIN, and the resources required to rob a bank / holding cell of some sort... they tend to have even more protection on their safety deposit boxes than they have on their ultra-secret cyberterminals.

but if you could pull it off, it would certanly be whiz.

Probably wouldn't be able to pull it off more than once, maybe twice  with the same identity.  Any more than that, someone would wise up.

so it would have to be one hell of a payday to work.

and you'd have to have serious bank to start, to get the insurable painting worth a billion dollars or so.

Yup.
and if you took only 'your' stuff, it would look mighty suspicious, and if you take other people's valuables... they may come looking for them...

-RuskiFace the Pirate

in the end, the bank's have insurance to cover that sort of thing, so it dosn't really end up costing them much.

Maybe, but the bank's rep would likely take a dive.

*shrug* if it gets robbed by a big enough hit, people will just feel sory for them.

no one blames the bank when terrorists show up and shoot up the place.

Tomorrow night at your house. Didn't you get the e-mail??? ;)

But seriously, you could do this all sorts of ways. You could go in with someone else for the valuable item to be stolen. They lend you the item for a share of the settlement. You "steal" the item, and then both of you make a fortune. But this requires trust, and we all know the pitfalls there. You could even have a fake item with bogus credentials. Instead of stealing it, you engineer it to destroy itself. Like desovling or being carried away by a spirit or something. Then you go to check it, see that it is gone, sue the bank, and get rich.

hmm... it would have to be a more elaborate setup than that...

just putting something in a safe deposit box wouldn't be enough... it would have to be 'on display' in a museum or something...

Agreed. But you see what I'm saying. You biuld up the hipe, cause the destruction/theft of the item, and then sue the institution (be it corporate, public, or government) which housed the item, and make a ton of money. It would take some really good planning and attention to detail, but it could be done.
