Well, it depends on how recent his break from the family has been. If it is very recent, I would spend all the estra funds on contacts, unless you are Hanging Him Out to Dry. If that's the case, the get a cheap doss. If the break with the family was a while back, get the doss and some equipment. After that, buy a few foci that he can use to trade with mages and whatnont.

ohhh... nice twist... useing the foci for their barter value! find some with a decent street markup, and he could be trying to sell them...

i'm not sure about the hung out to dry bit... but i was thinking about giveing him perhaps a bad reputation... plus only like two (the standard) or perhaps one extra contact...

we got his organlegger boss, ... an orc underground contact... ... and i was thinking... i don't know... a criminal contact? perhaps a fixer of some sort? could be like a level 1/2 contact... someone that his organlegger works with all the time, and that he ocasionally has to go get stuff from, but he isn't known as anything other than 'patch adam's runner boy, the one with the bad rep.'
*shrug* i want to play up the 'outcast' angle on this, i think that would be interesting.

so, whats some rare magical foci stuff that he should have to sell?

Sustaing foci are damn good barter/sell items. He could even have a few spell formulai that he nicked from the decks of his family. I would stay AWAY from a power focus if any strength, though. I made the mistake in my first game of letting one of the players loot a Force 4 Power Focus off of a Red Sammy mage and it sold for 400,000. He made his fortune in one damn run.

well, i don't think he'd want the astrial attention anyways. spell formuli are a good idea though... although with a bunch of magi, i'm not sure there would be a lot of computers arround in the ghetto... i think they would go for cheaper methods of keeping them... spell books perhaps?

well a gun is a no-brainer. everyone in the ghetto has a gun. most people have two. although a survival kit may be a bit forward... not many people walk arround with camping gear.

well, a 'survival' kit has an emergency blanket, signal flares, knife, compus, and the like. this is ghetto boy, he probibly hasn't even ever seen a forrest, let alone used a compous (sp?) he's not really a pack rat, just keeps the stuff worth something. he's got a decent life, enough to have his own ghetto appartment working with the organlegger... i was just thinking about what 'nice' things he would have. i.e. cyberware, spell foci, car, private limo service,... whatever. everyone has an 'obsession' that they put whatever money they have into, makeing that one aspect of their lives nicer, at the expense of all others. what's his obsession? where is his money going to?

Hey, the ration bars are a good idea. Think about it, you have an entire day's worth of nutrients in a candybar-sized package. A few dozen of them could bribe the drek out of a squatter camp or even some gangs. Keep some of those puppies with you at all times since you might have to stay away from the doss for a while on short notice.

Also, as far as the astral signature of the foci goes, if they are not active, someone would have to accense them to see that they are foci at all. As such, they would be pretty safe unless someone was specificly trying to find those foci.

still... haveing gone backpacking up in the sierra mountains before, and haveing carried two weeks worth of food with me, i'll have you know that it's about 50 lbs worth of food. and thats if you eat the same crappy thing all day every day. and it tastes gross after about two days. and if you have a survival kit, a blanket, an extra set of clothes, an extra set of steeltoe boots, a resperator, etc etc etc... that's a LOT of gear to walk arround with. have you ever tryed running with your weight in crap on your back? i have, it's hard. you aren't going to get away from the poliece with that junk in your frame supported backpack.
