In the comics he is. See what happens when you stop collecting comics for a few years? Imagine how surprised I was to find out that the White Queen, who is now going by her regular name of Emma Frost, has the mutant ability to become as hard as diamond. WHERE THE FRAG DID THAT COME FROM???? Apparently someone wasn't happy with her just being a world-classed telepath. Oh well...

I think that happened when Genosha got fragged.  She was teaching, Sentinel blasted the place, and Frosty survived because she turned to diamond.

Though she's unable to use her telepathy in that form.

Well, as many times as she's been blasted by Sentinels, Pheonix, Professor X, etc. you'd think it would have kicked in sooner.

Yeah, but how often has she had a building collapse on top of her?

Besides, they really dropped the ball on that whole aspect of the Excalibur storyline. For those of you who never followed it, Excalibur was formed by Nightcrawler and Shadowcat along with Rachel Summer (the daughter of Cyclops and Pheonix from an alternate future story arc: The Days of Futers Past), Captain Britain, and his lover Meghan. The premise was that the X-Men had been killed and the 2 remaining ones, Nightcrawler and Shadowcat, ended up in England and felt they should "carry on the fight" all the time not realizing that the X-Men escaped death in some absurdly unlikely way and were alove and well. The reason breaks down when you realize that even though the X-men were unable to be recorded by any technological means (thanks to some biff with magical powers) and therefore off of the international news, they would have certainly known about Excalibur's existance and activities and made contact with them. But for some reason, they never did.

So anyway, what all of this actually means is that there were quite a few fans out there who read Excalibur, but not the other X-books, and without the logical interaction, never really kept up with the storylines.

I got into comics after Excalibur ended, but I'd done enough online research about Shadowcat to know which series to collect.

Ah, I gotcha. I started collecting it at issue #1 and followed it all the way until it died. Talk about a bitter sweet journey. ;)

It took me about a year to find all but the last 21 issues (although I'm missing -1 or 1/2 or whatever that Kurt/Amanda as kids was).

I liked Pryde and Wisdom!  Why'd they break them up?

Because Excalibur was used as a "start-up" comic for new artists and writers instead of as a continuity-based storyline. So you get some new writer at Marvel, the boss says,"let's see his stuff, but don't let him frag up anything important." The other boss then says, "Ok, chief, how about we put him on Excalibur, no one really pays much attention to that one anyway." And the boss says, "Great!" Hence, Douglock, Wolfsbane, Captain Britain becoming super-scientist for the last 6 issues, Kitty Pryde Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and of course Kitty and Pete breaking up.

hey now aint no tight clad hero sucking on me
and as for x4 going to be kind of hard since  i heard cyclpos dies in x3 and cain and xavier mending thier fences please like that would ever happen

Cyclops isn't the only one who dies.

But that doesn't mean that you couldn't have a string of new characters for X4.  It's not as if the membership of superhero groups is constant.  X3 introduces Shadowcat, Colossus and Iceman as full members of the team, and Beast comes back.  It'd be pretty easy to come up with one of the storylines from the comic and use some different characters in it...

Purple?  Looked pink to me.  If it'd been up to me, she'd've had a darker shade of blue.  Or maybe grey.

If it had been up to me...  ::)
