I was looking up SHADOWRUN PUB and found this site, so I figured I would sign up and try to get some input. I am trying to design and pub/coffin hotel for a portfolio piece. I have a rough exterior layed out. But the interior is driving me nuts because I want to get a science fiction look to it. Something dark and rough, a place where people go to get their computer fix or meet a mr johnson, things like that. I am trying to think of what that computer setup would look like and how the bar and booths and all that would be set up. So if anyone has any suggestions on the design layout just hit me up with a reply.

The first two images are what I found and liked, i cant believe coffin hotels actually exist, anyway the last image is what i built using unreal editor.

Well, hi.  Welcome.

Coffin hotels by virtue of type are utilitarian.  You're ot going to find a fern bar in the lobby.  I would suggest carrols maybe three of four stations around for pay the minute matrix time - standing room only, no chairs.  I'd go kind of automat for the bar.  Just a couple of thoughts.

Personally, I've always thought of coffin hotels as ugly squat thigs, designed purely to host as many 'coffins' as possibly, in a little room as possible.

Mind you, they have something very close to coffin hotels in japan, and have had them for over a decade, IIRC.

Yeah, the japanese have had coffin motels for a couple decades- the writers of shadowrun wanted to include a dark futuristic and very asian influence, so street samurai, coffin motels, and the like.

Since there are actual coffin motels, it shouldn't be hard to track down a layout for them. Each one has a flatscreen tv and matrix jack, and enough room for one and a half people (no trolls). From what I've seen of them on tv, they're usually four or five wide, and three tall. Put enough room for an elevator that's always out of service, and the 'backup' stairs, and you'll have yourself a dingy little dive to hide out in if you're out of money and friends.

yea that photo ref i have there are both from japan, i went and found some ref photos and even vids on  some of the inside but i have no idea. I might make them seperate. The bar for the mr johnson and the hotel for the runner but i just liked the idea of it being mixed. well here is a roughed out SIMSENSE chip machine for the augmented runner to go and feel good by frying the brain, this machine will be placed in the bar.

Feel free to draw over it, any help or thought would be appreciated, my 2d skills are well , eeeh

  • VOODOO!

I keep thinking of the scene in the movie The Fifth Element where Korbin Dallas and Leeloo are on the ship going to that resort.  Before the ship takes off the slide into these type of slots in the walls where there's a terminal and a button that the stewardess presses to induce sleep.

Having spots like that where you would slide in rather than getting into a lengthwise compartment would save on space allowing more coffins at the same time having less aisles.

Did you ever read the description of coffin hotels in the Neo-Anarchist's Guide to Real Life?
