*shrug* Raymond wouldn't do well with AJ. shadowrunning chicks are too controlling. but a band chick... that could be fun.

Hmmm I am an adept too I wonder two adepts getting together be like.

Spectator A: Are they fighting or necking?
Spectator B:  Looks like a little of both I got ten bucks on the girl.
Spectator A: To which beat his butt or get him off?
Spectator B: Both and another five saying the guy in the corner going to fall out of his pants before it is all done.

lol.  Yeah, this is going to be an interesting run.  This'll be the first time I'll have played this and not been the only adept.  Most people seem to like either mages or chrome.

I just don't like the combat system for Shadowrun in regards to chromers an adepts.  I mean we use magic and they use machine to make them better than human yet we can only hit three times in a combat turn (four if you have move by wire)  while you can shoot a gun technically 9 times (twelve with move by wire).  So they are saying that we enhanced humans aren't better than a Predator.  I just don't agree with it at least as far as melee is concerned.   But that just my gripe.

I meant an Ares Predator by the way and someone on the other end of it.

But... the combat system takes place in a 3 second period. So firing seperate times, at seperate targets (9 times in 3 seconds? 12 times? Holy drek that's fast!)

Most shadowrun combats don't last into the 30 second range. Which means that a Predator would have to be pretty on his toes to get a group of runners armed with anything but fondue forks.

Although I much prefer Shadowrun combat to D20.  D20 doesn't acknowledge a fast character should be able to get more hits in. (A quick rogue armed with a knife or rapier should be fast enough to get in more attacks, not fewer, than a powerful fighter of equal level with a greatsword.  It's all physics.)

Well, there isn't really much good to say about D20 combat, now is there?
It's not realistic, it's not simple, and it's not particularly fast paced or flashy, so...

Well, think of it this way: what drawback does an adept have for all their powers?

...

the in-ability to get cyberware... that's more of a competitive thing than a draw back. like ford vs toyota.

they still get full benefit from healing spells, their abilitys can get better over time,

drawback of an equil amount of chrome to keep up with an adept:
Cybermancy, you loose your soul and become a robot.
all your friends leave you because you can't relate to them.
no healing spells work on you, and you corrupt the astral space you occupy.
you get cancer twice a month.
any time you look at something too closely, you could die.

now, on a game ballance scale, who should get more benifits?
the guy with no drawbacks, or the guy with a list so long that it takes several books to occupy.

*shrug* and really, if an adept wanted to go the cybermancy route, they could burn out their soul with chrome, just takes a big paycheck.
if a cyberzombie wanted to become an adept... hmm... well, he could hope for reincarnation...

well, we usually had more adepts than street sams in our groups, but that was mostly because an adept could be a more powerful character (seeing as how a street sam can pump 1 million into his body and still not be the best, but an adept can pump $0 into thier body, and spend the last $20K on weapons, and be pretty damn competitive.)

What's the average life expectancy of a street sam? How are physical adepts balanced? Wouldn't being magically active make them a target for spirits or other nasties?

*shrug* in some small way there's a risk with being magical... but really; it's a biger risk to be un-magical in the world, and be unable to combat some things (like bug spirits)

I thought bug spirits attacked adepts and mages first, and that they had a hard time 'seeing' street sams. Or am I remembering that wrong?

Well, they'll attack mages and adepts for the same reason everyone else attacks them. they are the biggest threat.

but other than that; there's no special prefrence.

a essence draining monster may target them out from a blind fight, because they've actually got essence to loose, as opposed to the soul-less cyberzombie... but I think that's the exception.

I seem to remember something like that, though... a note that said adepts were a bigger target to spirits and stuff than your average street sam. Does anyone else remember anything like that?
