See, Poison has the right idea. Since the thread is just inane banter, who really cares if newbies read the entire thing? In fact, if anyone DID read the entire thing, I think we should just go ahead and make them a moderator right there on the spot.

Well, yeah, that's what I was thinking. Ok maybe just lock this thread and start a new paddin thread. If we keep that a regular thing, it won't be 220 pages of insane goodness.

You realize that deleting the padding thread may well actually erase some of our members entire post count? If you want to mess with it, then lock it and start a new one, don't erase it.

We could just lock it, then let Ingo's cleaning tools take it away after some months.
That'd preserve post counts for those to whom it matters.

Actually, that doesn't preerve post count. It deletes it. It just takes longer. And I still don't understand why we are voting to shut this thread down. The eniter point is for the inane babble and free-form conversation to take place here. How about just changing the name to something like that: Inane Babble and Free-Form Conversation?

Correction: according to Ingo, the cleaning too preserves the post counts that some people here seem so very fond of.

Are you sure? I know for a while it wiped out the PC as soon as the thread dissapeared. Still, I would still rather just renam the thread.

I vote for the renaming thing...something that tells people it's not essential to read the entire thread to post.

Since Gabe is sooooo adament, I feel I have to throw in with the opposite camp  ;D  I'm about the only one on this thread whose post count might noticably suffer for its loss but I think its also obvious by now post count isn't why I hang about.  How many years since we switched to this forum and I still haven't broken 2 grand?

Being one of the few people from way back in 98/99 then I have to say that the Paddin thread is a part of the pub--even if it is a bunch of nonsense.
I'm personally not-concerned with the post count part especially since my requested reset a few years ago.

I do understand that this thread is long so I have to vote for it to be locked--which can be done by anybody in the G.O.D. and have a new one started up which a warning in the beginning or in the title.

That's my two nuyen.:apoc:

If I remember, the Paddin thread was all about having a place to post sweet nothings that would boost your post count, to keep the other topics on topic.  Hence the name: you were paddin' your post count.

Since the main aim of the thread has changed (to instead having a conversation that runs like a soapie - you can leave it for 3 months and still pick up where you left off), I don't have a problem with changing the name to something that makes sense for those who haven't been around for the last 8-9 years.
Then again, the effect of the thread is the same - raising your post count - so the current name is also adequate.  In that case, locking it and starting a new thread is fine... exactly what the new thread is called... well that's another matter  :P

As for me, I'm not fussed either way.
/fence sitting

As for the debate as to whether the post count will be modified - there's one sure way to find out  ;D  But as far as my memory goes, I'm sure Ingo did say once that if a Mod deletes a threat the post count is revoked, but if the natural tidy-droids get to it then it saves the PC.

BTW, if I claim that I read through the whole thread will I instantly become a Mod?  ;D
