Good on you. Seems a lot calmer situation than one of my Boyz did - his security post was in an 'interesting' neighborhood. He was stationed in a residential building, but they had to do things like rake the syringes out of the parking lot before the kids went for the school bus, break up regular fights from the people who left the syringes (he wore a vest, thank goodness, because he got hit by a ricochet once and got lunged at with a knife once), and throw stoners and non-residents out of the building, which often resulted in more of the above. He got to know the local cops quite well.
