As far as I can tell, there's been a post in the pub every year since '98. Back when we had that awful thread based thing that I can't even remember the name of. The pub has been around for 18 god damn years. It can now legally buy cigarettes.
As such, it deserves a post for 2017, and I'm going to be the one to do it. So long as the back end server is online, I will make it a resolution to update this place at least once every year until the end of time.

So that was YOU who posted the link in the Shadowrunner's union?
-
Of course.
-
I tried to tag Ingo and Apoc in the facebook post, but I don't know if they're members of the Shadowrunner's Union.
It was a fun trip down memory lane- the Shadowrun webring, Dumpshock, and all the old hangouts. I have a lot of fun memories tied up in this place.

So long as I can remember my password here, I shall endeavor to come by at least every few months and check in. I, too, have a lot of memories tied up in this place. I did some of my best vicious heckling here once upon a time 8)
-
Holy, cow. Needed my anti-spam machete to get in through the tangle that grew up since last time. Will be back with a flame thrower next time. An no, not just because there's one in my trunk... ;)
-
Zone!
If we get one or two more faces in here, it'll practically be a reunion!
-kv
-
At this speed, a reunion in a time warp, but what the hell, I'm game.
-
Outside forces attack.
Anyone at the pub who was using photobucket will no longer be able to access the images hosted there without paying ransom. It is, as I understand it, a total clusterpork, but people like you, Kid, if at all interested, will have to come up with a new avatar, since your old one is gone b'bye.
-
Weird, i was just thinkinh about this place... and here y'all are.
-Ruski
-
Same here, isn't that awesome.
-
ACK! My avatar is gone! My Avatar loyal for what? A decade or more *sob* How do I get the fraggin' uggo thing off my avatar spot and a new pic in...it's been so long since I did any editing here. Thought it was safe since one of you all put her up for me lo these many years ago and she survived the disappearance of the Kid's, *sigh*
Wow, hey, Ruski and Root, they still live :) This is like an old Shadowrun Memorial Park we wander through from time to time and bump into only runners we thought were long gone. How nice they ain't.
-
Looks like you hosted your Avatar on Photobucket and it got removed or blocked and something. Do you have the file somewhere else?
And I'm still alive. And I haven't needed any new chrome in recent years either. ;)
-
Root, dahling, yes I believe that's what happened, but see I never posted an avatar for myself. One of the clever cyber fellows did that long ago, Flipside maybe (can't recall) and so I had no idea who hosted it or even how to put one up. (Cyber stuff *pfah* can't shoot nuthin' with it). I believe there is an option to ignore avatars, and that seems the best plan now since there are so many of the photobucket casualties about flying their ugly ransom banners.
-
Very true.
Also, Flipside? Wow, it has been a long time then.
-
Sadly, yes. I have been at the Pub for a damn long time. I decided to go see if I could actually do something about the avatar rather than just gripe, and found my original sign in for this version of the board (I showed up first time just as that long thread board was going out) Oh, my entry date? November 2002. Just had an anniversary here. Let's all say holy crap, now.
And hey! We're having an old Pub style conversation right now. More posts this month than in the last year I'd hazard. Yay for us and the Pub.
-
We are. Yay for us!
And yes, I think you're right about the volume of posts ;)
-
Just noticed your secondary sig.. I like that
Not sure about the new avatar though, had the other so long anything else seems a bit alien - is it me or are her ears too low....
-
They are, I think.
Still, it's not bad. It'll work.
-
Okay, remember that one and then take a look at this one...okay or too chrome? Her ears seem right though :D
Glad your here, it's like decorating when you can ask pointless questions about wall color or drapes, get everone's take on things and do whatever the hell you want anyway.
-
I like the new one better. Much better.
But! I'm not exactly known for my sense of aestethics.
And even more importantly, it's you avatar. It should represent you, alway and only you! :)
-
That sounds suspiciously like someone trying to get out of the decorating :P
Actually I like it a bit better but may have to shrink it, seems kind of looming as is.
It's really kind of hard to track down a decent pic to represent a very specific Sixth World elf - who'd have guessed
Wait a minute!
Found something else....I think we have a winner.
-
This one is awesome!
I like it! :)
-
Yep, sticking with this one for the time being :) Her ears are on right and everything
-
Agreed. This is a good 'un
-
Okay so now we have beaten the avatar question to death, time for a topic switch...

Yeah, that bother me as well

Well, having grown up with a Great Dane, I was just happy to see one people weren't running and screaming from. They are the sweetest things even if they do outweigh you by half. Shaggy was the scary one...and Freddy? Who wears an ascot? Even whenever the hell those were made, teens weren't wearing ascots anytime during the last century were they?
-
Not that I've noticed, no.
But then, Freddy was a bit of a caricature anyways, neh?
-
Well, yeah, cartoon, don't ya know :D
I actually still love animation, will watch most animation features: War of the Worlds:Goliath; Coraline; Titan A.E.; The Secret of NHIM; The Wrong Trousers; Yellow Submarine; even Lego Batman to name a few. Don't always like them all, but Have seen most of them...although can't work up the slightest interest in Frozen so have never seen it.
-
I've seen most of those as well.
Absolutely nothing wrong with animation :)
-
Love ya Root, but we need more people to come back around if we're going to get the semi-zombie board back on its feet. Be happy with an undignified shamble or a pathetic crawl even....
-
Very true.
-
Happy New Year, boys. Hope its better than average :-*
-
Happy New Year - my hopes that it'll be better than 2017 at least :)

Just seeing if this works. This song also seems appropriate for posting here - look how they lip sync, see how young they used to be...
-
Ofcourse it works :)
And yes, I do see how it'd be appropriate here.
-
Huh! There's a whole wiki dedicated to Shadowrun. I did not know that. It actually seems active too. There are still runners in the world.
http://shadowrun.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page (http://shadowrun.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page)
-
Oooh, nice find.
Thank you! :)
-
Dug out the old rule book recently, all the pages seem to be loose. I have the hard cover 2nd edition. Not even sure what edition they're up to now...I do remember reading 3rd(?) at some point but there was a huge bru-ha-ha about spending money on a new edition since they would likely just change it again so the decision was made lo, these many moons ago to stick with ed2. Maybe I'll start re-reading, go a whole new gen to get into non-video gaming....
-
Third edition is pretty close to the second edition.
Not identical, but pretty close.
The 4th edition kinda turned into storyteller with d6 instead of d10.
Even more dice than we've been used to, TN is always 5. Not a fan.
The name's the same, but I'd argue it's a new system.
5th edition is similar to the 4th edition from what I understand, but I have not actually read it, I must admit.
-
I once had so many game systems running, we played Westend's Star Wars (one of the best games we ever played, it was better than Rogue One for story and drama by far) and that one had mounds of d6 you could chuck if you burned a force point for those GFL saves. Shadowrun was another odd one, I always had to re-familiarize every time...now they've all gone d20, not that we play much. Sad that da boyz just ain't around to play any more, this being a grown up shite can really ruin a good game.
-
Amen!
Being grown up really get's in the way of gaming!
-
Where was Peter Freakin' Pan when we needed him, dammit!
-
Never never land, as usual, I expect. ;)
-
I'm of the considered opinion that Aladdin's ring would come in quite handy as well. Everyone forgets there was a ring, they just remember the lamp. Lamps are obvious, I'll take the ring and the djinn therein, much subtler, and you still get to wish up dinner, a new car, a spiff wardrobe, and an occasion trip to Blackpool.
-
I should read up on the original version of that story, really.
I know there was a ring, but I'm vague on the details I'm afraid.
-
Well, the thing about public domain is that it's easy to find at least a version on the net: http://etc.usf.edu/lit2go/141/the-blue-fairy-book/3132/aladdin-and-the-wonderful-lamp/
One thing classic fairy tails ain't is PC ;) I always give thick books of 'em to people having kids - well, that or those annoying stuffed toys that sing and won't shut up.
-
Yay! Thank you for the link :)
-
It has been a while since I posted anything. Trying to get my post in as well
-
Long time no see dragon.
I'm glad to see you're still alive. :)
-
Apoc, bud! Thought you'd been made into boots long ago! I was really hoping to find
a pair you one of these days.
-
Those boots would be pretty neat though ;)
-
Dragon hide boots. Knew there were some out there. OMG! Don't look, Apoc! Oh, my! How gauche, my apologies.

-
lol!
Pretty sure Apoc-skin boots would be nicer though.
... and not worth the effort ;)
-
Absolutely correct. Never make (or have made) boots out of a colleague who might actually stand the next round. That'd just be so short sighted and counter productive.
-
So very true!
-
I was poking around in a used book store the other day and found a handful of 1990s Shadowrun novels on the sale table. For giggles, picked up the three that weren't part of series: Never Trust an Elf, Night's Pawn, and 2XS. Only the first of which I've ever heard of. It's summer, I needed summer reading, right? They won't be as good as my stuff but I'm willing to give them a go ;D
-
funnily enough, I had a similar experience, except the ones I got were Bug City, Cyber Pirates, and Target: Smuggler Havens.
Did you ever visit the Windy City during bug season?
-
Been to Chicago just once, a flying visit, didn't have to shoot anything, and was gone as quickly as transport could be arranged ;) Felt that was the prudent thing to do.
Finished the first one, a bit too simplistic, no characters to hang your hat on so to speak, although the famed Dodger made a cameo.
I once had a cyberpunk rpg character called Dodger before I'd ever head of Shadowrun. But she was a girl, a heavily armed girl with no data jack, just copious plastic surgery, and new eyes.

Seems sensible ;)

That's not too awesome. Characters are so very important - unless you just want a shoot-out :-/I once had a cyberpunk rpg character called Dodger before I'd ever head of Shadowrun. But she was a girl, a heavily armed girl with no data jack, just copious plastic surgery, and new eyes.
Nice!
-
Clever sausage with your customized by paragraph replies!
And Chicago, anyway...it's as if everyone from NY said one day, 'Well, we like the crime and the poverty, but it's just not cold enough! Let's go west!'
NY style pizza is better in any case.
-

Just spending too much time in this virtual world that doesn't have decent simsense yet :-/And Chicago, anyway...it's as if everyone from NY said one day, 'Well, we like the crime and the poverty, but it's just not cold enough! Let's go west!
Oh joy! Sounds like a drekhole
-
I think they actually win the historically most corrupt infrastructure ever, edging out even LA and NY and SF. That takes some effort.
So anyway, I read Ready Player One and was wondering if anyone had gone the movie route yet. It was actually a pretty good read. Not Pulitzer stuff, but a decent 'by the pool/beach' kind of diversion.
-

Ouch!So anyway, I read Ready Player One and was wondering if anyone had gone the movie route yet. It was actually a pretty good read. Not Pulitzer stuff, but a decent 'by the pool/beach' kind of diversion.
Haven't seen it yet. Not really planning to either, to be honest.
The reviews are... bleak.
-
I'm so irritated. Realized too late that the jeans in the wash had a $5 bill in the pocket. No sweat, right, linen money can take a washing and keep on ticking...the damn washer ate the bill. The pocket was empty, the money MIA when things stopped spinning. So no movies for me! I shall consider pouting, but will probably prefer to cause mayhem - will have to kick the males off the game system...
-
Oh that is so annoying! :(
-
So where does this fall on the weird-shit-o-meter? Said 5 spot went into the wash and vanished from my pocket. It appeared days later in a different pocket from a pair of jeans (okay, yeah, also in the wash) and folded in quarters rather than just in half as it started out. The folding I can see happening in the action of the washer, but the transfer from one pocket to another rather than just shaking loose to the bottom of the machine...? And if its going to pull these little tricks, why not change the fiver into a C-note? That would make me stand up and take notice, dammit!
-
That seems ... a bit wierd, yeah.
-
Well, I finally got the five spot to turn into something else - nacho fries, and that's after I've (mostly) sworn off fast food. Evil little tasty devils.
-
...tastes nice though...
-
Its been a while...
But just like this board
The!
Captain!
Wont!
Die!
... he will come down with a bad case of pneumonia like right now, which is a bummer, but hey, gave me time to get on and find the place again!
-
pnemonia sucks though
get well soon?
-
Oh yes, it truely sucks... Thankfully i am getting better, just not quickly enough for my tastes... been stuck inside for almost a week of feeling like crap, and even the short walk to stuffer shack leaves me Gassed. is bull chummer. i actually Crave to be able to go back to work so i can Do Something...
-
Good to know you're improving!
-
yeah, issue now i getting appointment with doctor to get extended medical leave stuff filled out, an find out if work is gonna list it as paid or unpaid leave... Cause if its unpaid, thats 2 weeks of pay gone.. even at partial would be a major help..
-
That sort of thing is the worst!
-
Yep. Just the sorta thing to push a guy into running the shadows...
If that sorta thing actually existed. And was actually capable of doing it...
And that moment when you join a new game... and one of the guys joining is pushing to play a nuclear physad. And when turned down wants to basicly play a toxic wolf shaman...
-
And that moment when you join a new game... and one of the guys joining is pushing to play a nuclear physad. And when turned down wants to basicly play a toxic wolf shaman...
Argh! Yeah.
Far too many of those.
-
Yeah. Game seems to have fallen apart, but... The character concepts i saw i cant say im to sad as it was kinda looking like a mess with a bunch of "That Guy".
-
Those groups are altogether too common.
And more than a little toxic.
Pun intended.
-
Heheh. Yeah. They did their pick and i wasnt included... and not to sad at that decision. Looking at what people were putting together im not to sad, less shadowrun more murderhobo brigade with access to military gear.
Oh well. Search continues...
Side note. Cant wait for cyberpunk 2077... but really wish we could have gotten a shadowrun game like that. The return series is awesome, but a good shooter... oh man. Thst would be awesome.
-
I liked the 'Return' series :)
... and FPS makes me seasick, so yeah.
Pretty graphics though!
-
Fair, and would be hard to get as much story stuff in an fps as effectively..
But still, something shootery would be nice, current run of games out just dont quite do it for me..
Speaking of new games... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1192053011/things-from-the-flood-sequel-to-tales-from-the-loo
Sequel to tales from the loop and looks awesome! Set with bit older kids, and in the 90s!
-
1513% funded... I see.
-
Ayup. They are gonna have to possibly come up with some new stretchgoals soon...
-
I doubt they will - why bother?
-
Hey, Captain. Hope you're on your feet again.
Glad you had someone in to talk with, Root, while I dealt with some rather horrible issues in the topside world. Felt bad when I realized how long I'd been a no show here.
The pub remains in a persistent vegetative state, but we keep bringing in the hummus to coax it along, don't we?
If it makes you feel any better, when one of our guys brought his weird gf in to a game for us to teach her the ropes. The rules guys gave her the quickie rundown of basics and she insisted that she wanted to play a squirrel character. No, that is not a typo. She wanted to play a squirrel. Granted, that's a hell of a thing to have one of those run up your opponent's leg during a big fight, but really, how many times can you count on that working before you get messy road kill?
-
Squirrel?! WTF?!
-
Hey Zone! Good to see you again!!
And yeah, managed to find my way back recently after game fell through and finally finished sr hong kong, been far to long. Hope your issues werent to bad.
Squirrel... ....
I can beat that. Game i wanted to run guy insisted his cyberware could let him run faster then the speed of light, and his knives could upload viruses to take over peoples cyberware.
Made such a stink i let him have them... then the second he turned on his legs special abilities his meat was turned to dust and everything around him slagged as all the energy was violently drawn off to try and power the legs, which were turned into base smoking carbon. Long with his stupid knives.
Granted he wasnt someones SO... but still.
-
Light speed legs, omg! That's beyond the Monty Hallest of finds in any rpg ever! lol
Lovely little be careful what you wish for moment, though.
Needless to say, Squirrel Girl never really got what we were doing and didn't come back, but Taylor stayed without her, he was a very pretty man, so I was pleased ;D
I'm trying to remember all the horrible things that were included in a Deck of Many things we once ran across in a ADD kind of game - one was that your character was now and forever the pit boss in a seedy Reno casino c 1955 (unless someone blew a wish spell to get you back, of course). Pulling card from that thing was like a drug - someone just HAD to do so every so often - just to see what weird shit would happen.
Oh! I remember! one was a permanent bad hair day. and one was "Dove skin" obviously created after subliminally effected by tv commercials
-
Oh yeah.. this fucking guy. Wanted to try all the "brooding badass" anime tropes... but sorry omea. This is the barrens. You try this emerge from the shadows drawing down on someone with little pea shooter, better make sure the troll with a shotgun he uses to duck hunt armored drones knows your playing.
Least then he will leave something that can ve buried in a casket and not a watertight jar.
4 times this happened. He became the walking ammo refill. Always went for the million nuyen option and bought top grade stuff... then got smoked. I didnt let the crew get all he had, damaged in gun fire, ect, but he got nicknamed easter, cause you got at least a few goodies.
Eventually he quit after finally bringing him in proper, and finding out payday was 2000 split 5 ways.
"My dude has almost a million dollars in cyberware! Why woukd he take pay that low!!"
... cause you have a million dollars worth of cyberware that needs tune ups, rent on your home (if he had bought one. Expected other pcs to just give him one of theirs..) the need to eat, and a complete lack of streetcred to get a job that will pay you more then the price of a blowjob from a ghoul.
"WELL if we arent going to get paid more i quit. Lets go." In RL Gets up, looks to group waitingnfor them to come.. rest of the table stares at him blankly as they.. well... Hate him.
Thst was a satisfying day...
-
Sounds .... depressing, yet satisfying?
-
Try being the only female in a group with a player who thinks his character is fricking Tom Jones or Cassanova. :P
-
Less depressing, more annoying, and EXTREMELY satisfying.
And zone... had something like that. Least one guy in exalted game. Playing a lunar and this guy decided, on his own, she was his abyssals soul bond thing. Decided to push the issue and try and force it ic...
Well, lets say it didnt goe well for him... he was also this dark brooding "hero" type, but some reason had apperance 8, which is stupid high, and poorly spent his points. I on the other hand, had a concept for my chqracter, trickster in training. And i spent minimal points in that stuff. Cause i wanted her to actually be training.
Where did those points go..?
Into the ability to beat an abyssal exalted in super heavy soulsteel platemale to a bloody pulp with her (not quite, she had enchanted metal tattoos) bare hands. Took all his fancy arifact gear, and renamed him "hollow bloody sphincter" to comemorate the occasion.
That was satisfying.
-
Try being the only female in a group with a player who thinks his character is fricking Tom Jones or Cassanova. :P
I have seen that. It was cringe worthy.
You have my sympathies, for what little that's worth.
-
I thing I'll embroider a pillow with the line one of the guys gave me when I first joined a gaming group (the only girl, of course) "You're the only girl some of these guys have ever seen. "
-
... I can only hope that that was never true.
Except for the pillow bit, that's neat.
-

Moonsilver Tattoo Artifact Smashfists I assume?
Or were they Razors?

Haha! Called it on first go. Got them in hand and foot style, add in high strength, some good damage boost charms, perfect defense...
And you have one very embarassed abyssal that nobody likes bitching about how all his gear got stolen. ... and how its totally unfair cause he wasnt going to take anything from her... just... you know, rape her. Quickly after he was canned so hard it caused hydrogen fusion and game only lasted bit longer before dude in charge got called up for tour in marines
-
That ... happens.
-
thankfully not often.
though been pretty dry on games sense. played a good long 40k one, but it petered out after a while when GM got worn out from trying to herd 2 groups of players, about 6-7 each, many of them asshats, in a semi connected story. We ran for like.. almost 2-3 years, and had fun, but totally understand why he got burned out. But since then we have only done mini stuff, which while fun, isnt quite the same as planning up an ambush working together as opposed to battling each other out...
-
Which version of the 40k RPG(s)?
And no shadowrun at all for years, I assume?
-
Fantasy flight, Only War. With some things from the other systems mixed in, but only minor.
Fun as hell game, though all the other players were retired military, and im just a filthy civie. Still fun as hell, my dude was pretty much a warboy from madmax, and come to repair and driving rolls, the omnissiah loved his ass. Though tech priests hated him.
Feats include,
Repairing busted chainsword.
Repairing busted chimera that had been religated to source for scrap.
Hijacking a traitor chimera from the middle of their base.
Repairing a broken plasma gun tech priests had written off. (And of course, couldnt find any ammo for it beyond first plasma flask)
Repairing firing systems on a busted baneblade.
And... the crown jewel...
Repairing a 4000 year old broke. Power field shield device he found on a space hulk. Had several extras for parts and to study, best quality tools, and a very nice 001 on a d100. (Lower the roll the better)
GM was shocked, tech priests were amazed, magos blue screened. Good times. Good times.
One annoying thing was gm didnt beleive in giving people gear upgrades. So at one point we are fighting plague marines, and here is my dude with an empty plasmagun... and a shotgun. Against nurgled up marines in power armor.
Smaller threats it was effective, but moment theres decent armor... nope.
...
And i gotta go. Brain melting down, dumbass bitching that "people trying to do their jobs right is whats wrong with this economy!!".
This said to bus driver, who expected person to pay to get on the bus.
-
Sounds like a fun game! :)
-
it was, we had some tough spots from... Meh, players, but all in all it was good. sadly, no real call for another it seems, big focus is on mini battles, and while fun, gets kinda old smashing same armies against each other repeatedly each month.
-
Yeah, that is the problem with Only War, isn't it.
-
The players would have been an issue in any game i think. some were just weird.. like dude we called mumbles.
We played at local comic/card/game store, as it was central to all players, and just one day, dude thats like, 70 years old shows up and "joins" makes his character without consulting us, and just kinda joins in. GM rolled with it, despite the fact guy only spoke in a quiet mumbling. after that we just quietly changed our game time. Others were guys who derailed things to tell this totally awesome story of what happened in another game, while playing, people who didnt like that they couldnt just do whatever they wanted without consequences, and other general flakes and such. All in all, excellent game, and i liked the system! were a few small things i'd change, but in the end wasnt to bad.
-
Sidenote.
Listening to starship troopers had made me miss that game more then ever, more so then most 40k novels. It also makes me realize jut how hard a realistic military based game like that is, and how horrible an idea of putting me (via my character) in a command position.
-
It also makes me realize jut how hard a realistic military based game like that is,
Oh yes!
-
... Was stil fun;3 we got the trained marines of the corporal, sergeant, to master sergeant and what not. All going serious, laying out battle plans, diagrams and all this other stuff.. then things go slightly bad...
And here i come, mr civilian playing a mad max warboy shouting "WITNESS ME!!" and charging at enemies chucking grenades left and right smashing things with a shotgun to save the day. ... Usually. Didnt always go well, but never went horribly.
And the one time one of the army guys (former staff sergeant) tries things my way he is surrounded by goons who are going to chip his health down a point at a time despite his armor, so gets brilliant idea to pull a grenade in each hand and just drop them at his feet.
Cause his armor is so awesome it should protect him fine! (to be fair, our damage rolls with grenades had been crap. pretty much throwing wet m80s at the enemies)
So of course he rolls max damage and nearly kills himself on accident. Just BARELY survived. though did wipe out all the scrubs, but still..
From that day we called him "Two-fist" cause that was so stupid you needed 2 hands to count the things wrong with it.
-
We had a similar - though less bad - scene.
We had a new guy in the group. We'd told him that frag grenades were pretty much not dangerous, because they hadn't been. Decent toughness, decent armor, bad rolls, you know the drill.
In this particular situation, we needed to rescue a civilian, and the new guy dropped a frag just right next to the civilian and a baddie. Rolled 16 for damage on 2d10. He was honestly surprised the civilian was geeked, 'cause we'd all said frag grenade weren't that dangerous.
We'd just forgotten to include "against armoured orks" in that statement.
-
Oooohhhhh... yeah... thats a quantifier that helps...
But even still, "dont point a weapon at anything you dont intend to destroy," counts in rl and in game.
We had some other players that were... yeah. One played ogryn, and he had to be the center of all attention in everything and complicate every scene. I eventually got him smoked for all the stupid shit. Guy made big deal bout how ogryn dont like dark places, so my dude rigged him high powered light on his helmet... which drew the fire of a nurgle cultist using auto cannon as a sniper rifle.
Another guy was officer... or suppose to be. Was most piss poor officer ive seen, and ive played one horribly. (And after listening to starship troopers im even more aware of how bad. But in my defense, my dude was never meant as officer, he was crazy ass black thumbed warboy)
Now im kinda left sitting on all my 40k rpg books, many of which selling for hundreds of dollars on ebay. And no prospects for future game as stands... But part of me refuses to part with them "cause who knows!!"
-
Our 'officer' (well, first sgt, then Lt), was shite too. Funny thing that.
-
OMG YOU GUYS ARE ALIVE!
WAIT... SO AM I?
:bob:
-
Ingomonk! Long time no see!
Good to have you with us :)
-
Indeed! Today I was cleaning up bookmarks and here I am!
-
Holy crap! Your not a Sokushinbutsu!!!
Good to see you Ingo! Hope all goes well!
And yeah. The lead got sniper checked by one of the other players who got sick of his crap.
Sadly... or not considering, gm wouldnt let people play comissars, largely cause his last game gm let some 15 year old asshat play the com, who decided he was going to play him quiet brooding blahblahblah while trying to kill more players then enemy.
I think roles like that you have to have played in game for a while to prove that you can play, and even still subject to gm approval.
-
He was honestly surprised the civilian was geeked, 'cause we'd all said frag grenade weren't that dangerous.
We'd just forgotten to include "against armoured orks" in that statement.
I really and honestly laughed out loud there. Yeah, guys, it's all in the delivery.
Please note my sig, and yes has bearing on stupid things people do in game...speaking of game, Hunny has been making noises of late about getting a game going. We no longer have da guyz to draw upon, since life has taken them on the road and they are now scattered across the Eastern Seaboard and the Midwest, but there are geeks hiding in the undergrowth around here. I'm sure we could come up with 3 or 4 who might want to try gaming. It has just been soooo long, not sure if we'll be any good at it anymore now that we're all 'grown up' and stuff. (Maturity remains, as always, optional, of course).
And of course, I must add, HEY THERE, INGO! So pleased to see you!
And now we are four, mwahahahahaha!
-
And now we are four, mwahahahahaha!
The Four Horsepeople of the Pubocalypse!
(See what I did there! Politically correct! I'm adulting hard these days!)
-
Hehe, you know what they say... your only young once... but you can be childish forever.
Our worst decision in game was we saw the chaod apostle, high ranking nurgle champion giving speech in desecrated temple to the emperor. Rest of the group, overriding me as sergeant at the time.. "we have a chance to take him out! Lets have our sniper take a shot!"
Sniper has a basic gun that does piss all but gets minor damage bonus if aimed.
My suggestion, "if we are going to do this, lets use the auto cannon, it has higher damage, a burst fire, and major armor penetration."
Nono! We need to use the sniper rifle. Which regular grunts can take 2-3 hits from. ... so we used the stupid sniper rifle. And, who coukd have known!!! An apostle of nurgle in light power armor was uneffected!! Especially as the shot was blocked by one of his power armored body guards!!! There was NO way anybody coukd have seen thst coming even if i suggested it at the start...
And so we ended up getting chased through the hive by several hundred chaos cultists. By freak dice rolls, we ended up facing off against apostle and his guards, and got whooped though still managed to win (overcharged plasma for the fucking win) but that point i was nearly to dropping the game cause i was tired of dealing with the rest of the group. Gm was annoyed cause he hadnt expected us to do something so fuck stupid. Though when giving reasons ic at least mine helped some as i kept to character for things...
But after that i took haitus and game buckled not long after, to many players fucking about, gm getting burn out (2 year long game meeting twice a month to play for almost 10 hours over roll20 and skype).
Miss the good times of the game though. War minis is fun, but not as much as playing your own character.
And if we are the horsepersons of the pubocalypse, i call dibs on horseperson of bourbons and cognacs.
-
I recall the sniper rifle (well, the long-las) as doing decent damage. But you (the player) had to know what you were doing.
I'd have gone for the autocannon as well.
-
Oh no, this wasnt a long las... This was just plain solid shot rifle.
Long-las: Range: 150m, single shot, 1d10+3 energy damage, 1 penetration, accurate, reliable, felling 4 qualities.
(accurate means you get an additional +10 to shoot when aiming on top of the normal bonus, and for every 2 degrees of success you get an additional 1d10 damage, max of 2d10.
Reliable means doesnt jam or other complications on bad roll,
felling removes 4 levels of unnatural toughness... Which is only useful against daemons or creatures with that powerup, no bonus against normal toughness, but against the plague guys "kind of" useful...
Sniper rifle: Range: 200m, single shot, 1d10+4 damage, 4 penetration, accurate and reliable... So not as bad as i remember, 4 penetrations pretty damn good, though we had screwwd up rules where penetration doesnt count against your Toughness bonus to your armor. So your flabby abs protected better then carapace armor...
AutoCannon: Range 300m single shot and 3 round semi auto, damage of 3d10+8 Penetration 8, reliable
So on range...
Half your "max" range gives you a +10 to hit, at range is +0, double range is -10, 3 times range is -30.
With sniper rifle we were at extreme taking the -30.. so roughly 450 meters. So with autocannon we would have had long range for -10.
But sniper rifle came with telescopic scope, thus ignored that penalty with full aim, soo.. yeah, it gets advantage on range technically..
number wise...
full action Aiming with both provides a +10, but due to its accurate nature the sniper rifle gets an extra +10.
Sniper rifle +20 to hit,
Autocannon +0 to hit
for firing a single shot rifle you also get a +10 to hit, bumping sniper to +30, (but, he called a shot to the head, negating the +10, he wanted to maximize damage)
Autocannon as semi auto gets no bonus or penalty, remaining at +0, BUT! for semi auto you get an additional hit for every 2 degrees of success (every 10 pts over your target number) So a chance for more then 1 shot to hit. I'd call no head shot here as we would want to use the semi-auto fire which can only be done with single
Sniper +20
AC: +0
Target was unaware (giving a speech infront of loyal crowd) which would give a +30. we had higher ground +10,
Sniper: +60
AutoCannon: +40
Dude had a high ballistic after long time playing, round about 48 (though looking at his sheet it says 80 now... which i doubt..)
To figure difficulty, you take your base skill (the said 48) add in modifiers (60 for sniper, 40 for AC) and roll a d100 hoping to roll lower then your end result.. which means with sniper rifle, only way he would miss is if he rolled a 100 or so, which just automatically fails
With autocannon would need to roll under a 88 to hit, and every 10 more under gets extra hit up to 3.
on random roll... 17. Yeah. Both are good hits with either gun, sniper rifle does 3d10+4 damage in one hit..
Autocannon does 3 hits of 3d10+8...
Sniper damage: 28 and ignores 4 points of armor, and up to 4 pts of unnatural tough directly to the head (called shot to head)
Autocannon: First shot hits right leg with 20 damage second shot hits right leg again for 24 damage, third shot hits body for 32 Damage. Eac hit has 8pts of penetration. Third shot also had a 10 on its damage making it a critical! That is ouch.
he had an armor of about 10 (plating, chaos, ect) and 5 of that was all toughness, so by our screwwed up rules he ignores 5 damage from each hit.
Sniper rifle does end of 22 damage. He had like, 30 wounds, so ouch, but lives..
Autocannon... first shot, 15 damage, second shot, 19, third shot 27 damage (and as a critical, cracks his ribs dealing 1d10 toughness damage). End result? 61 damage. more then double his wounds, and Right into critical damage! and very likely just dead.
BUT!! Surprise twist! one of his body guards had a talent (which im sure was scribbled onto the sheet at last second as this hairbrained plan was dreamed up..) that let him jump in and intercept the attack.
I kinda tuned out at this point, otherwise as they were unaware the dude shouldnt have time to jump in front of a super sonic round.. But gm wanted the dude alive evidently (forgot the first rule. Never give PCs access to someone you dont want dead). And with autocannon could argue with that much damage and armor penetration that it should have torn him to shreds and hit the guy behind him, as he described it as him jumping infront of the target, not knocking him out of the way....
But thats just me. at that point i had pretty much just checked out of the game due to all the BS of side junk. didnt help they wanted to ... Encourage... one of the players from the secondary group (dude ran 2 games, diff squads in same regiment off oing seperate missions which had some effects on each other) with his "voice acting" which came out as very stilted and shitty canadian and Wisconsin accents. like someone dubbed in lines from fargo and trailer park boys...
-
Always remember the first rule indeed!
-
heheh.
Yeah, that point i could kinda feel he was getting burned out, but same time wanted to keep going, and it started to wear on him some, especially with problem players. I had hoped to get a small TT (... wow, that actually works excellent for table top cause looks like one) game going, but have figured out while i can come up with good ideas and set a scene like a boss, I kinda suck at dealing with player improvization and such.. He has been talking of running something again, and whil ei might play, gonna give him some adventure seed stuff, though as i my days off are odd with everybody else, might just see about giving him stuff to start with and idea fodder.

And now we are four, mwahahahahaha!
The Four Horsepeople of the Pubocalypse!
(See what I did there! Politically correct! I'm adulting hard these days!)
Again, literally laughed out loud. There is way too much adulting in my life right now, need goofy shite to compensate. Now try and actually say Pubocalypse with out stumbling on it :D As far as PC goes, I favor respelling everything, so instead of man the suffix is min- which means nothing and certainly isn't 'man' - Policemin, postmin, horsemin, etc
So who are the Horsemin of the Pubocalypse? We certainly can't use the designations of members of the other equine associated quartet.... North seems to have dibsed 'Drunk' in a roundabout way, so he can be the D guy.
-
... right now, I miss Apoc ...

Gabriel. I have never since gotten to abuse anyone so amusingly.

Gabe was a friendly target indeed!

Damn it... Oh well.

Hey guys, just wanna say happy thanksgiving! Enjoy that soy-turkey!!
-
Came on to do the same. Despite all the adverts out there, it is NOT Black Friday weekend, it is THANKSGIVING and I think a tiny little acknowledgement and friendly wish is in order. Have a bug free day gentlemen; felicitations.
-
Happy Thanksgiving UCASians. (And the CAS I guess?)
-
Wow, first post of 2019, really? Where's my pointy stick?
-
Right over there, next to the spanner and the lead pipe?
-
And you would be Colonel Mustard I take it?
-
And you would be Colonel Mustard I take it?
Pardon?
-
Spanner and lead pipe, two of the weapons available to do in Mr Boddy in the classic board game Clue. The suspects include Col. Mustard, and Mrs Peacock. I always play Miss Scarlet, or I don't play at all. :P
-
Ah, my apologies.
I don't believe I've ever played Clue.
-
It's pretty international, many people have played it under the name Cluedo, it was created by Anthony Pratt from Birmingham, England. The game was first manufactured by Waddingtons in the UK in 1949. Here in the US, when I was 6 my brothers and I scrimped and saved to manage the cost of that game (don't recall exactly but under $10 anyway). Mr Boddy spent all that summer dead while the rest of us were revealed in turn as the perps.

I'm passingly familiar with Cluedo, but have never played it.
I have played (once) an inverted version called 'Kill Doctor Lucky' though. :)

Oh cheapass games. I liked US Patent #1.
Very clever stuff.

Don't believe I've played that one - what the basic concept?

I couldn't find it among those listed at the cheapass website, but they do now have The Island of Dr Lucky: https://cheapass.com/the-island-of-doctor-lucky/

Nice!

Hey, boys.
What's new?
Me? Had a couple trees attack my perimeter. They've bridged the moat (creek) and broached the stockade (fence). Tree shrapnel covers half the yard. I can only assume further hostilities are imminent.
-
Nothing much new here, sadly. I kinda wish there was.
-
Job shenanigans. settled now more or less. completely fucked up my vacation so didnt get chance to go out and hang with friends or anything. just 4 days of bingeing emperor had text to speech, forged in fire and random minoe game playing.
im.... bluh.

Bluh happens.

... shadowrun story. Been brewing in head for a while. If you guys got a game can give it a go in, let me knowhow it goes.
Characters are hired to bust into game hardware developers section of megacorp. Their top guy is putting out new simsense rig, suppose to be as intense as btl but without addiction or health hazards, can play the games and actually feels like it.
Developer has tons of enemies, shitty business practices, rips off investors, companies ect. One of them hires you. The job?
Sneak into companys building, grab chip schematics, replace with new faked ones.
Find prototype dude is getting installed in a week, swap it for faked one johnson provided.
Find random prize list, replace names with several they provide, these people will receive new tampered implant.
Do not get caught tampering with implant or schematics, make it look like after something else.
Second stage of run for bonus. Company provides accounts for dudes fave game he created, has running bounty/challenge on himself, takenhim out in game, win cash prize and in game gear. The point? New chip operates EXACTLY like btl rig, and new chip can overheat Bad. Net assassination. Dudes gone (nobody is really sad cause he is peter molyneux, ea, bethseda, and fallout 76 levels of cunty) his company gets hammered as rush to get chips out of the prize winners, major lawsuits, charges on creating btl rigs. Ect. Pcs get nice payday, and extra payoff by selling in game they got for takingnout dude in game

Sadly, I can now say its officially years (plural) since I got to sit down with a circle of smelly guys and game. Quite a come down from the once a week that was happening when I first came on board here. There may be hope on the horizon, however. Huny has recently taken out the SR books to read over and has started making game noises - he's the perpetual game master since I hate that job. If we do manage to collect few guys and get even so far as character creation I'll point him toward this. Honestly, this grown up shite really cuts into ones colorful fantasy life.

Honestly, this grown up shite really cuts into ones colorful fantasy life.
Amen!
-
absolutely:( Im rarely able to get out to friends for just mini wargames or occasional board game.. Would love a chance to actually sit down and RP:T
-
I do get to play once in a while actually, just not as often as I'd like.
EDIT: My y-key is being annoying.
-
The best I can say game wise is that I have now beaten Diablo in every difficulty (except the single life hardcore which is in progress) and character variation, except witch doctor (which is a ridiculous character concept imo and I won't play it. I mean really, 'battle witch doctor?' not up there with the sword wielding wizards of high fantasy now, is he?) all while waiting on the laundry.

I'll have to share that pic with my better half

I have now shown her the puppy smiles.
She was pleased. :)

Wow, I was afraid I'd find a desolate wasteland when I came back.
Glad to see some familiar faces at my favorite crash-pad.
-
We kinda resurrected recently.

I have now shown her the puppy smiles.
She was pleased. :)
Well, yeah. Duh. Puppy Smiles. ;D
Heya Kid, nice to see you. We're making tiny bright spots here in the desolation. It's the golden glow or our stellar personalities that no doubt drew you back *G*
-
heyyyo,
sorry i been silent, major job shift lately at work been leaving me... Out. Add on top dental issues, kinda.. not great lately.. :(
Hope all is finding all of you better!
-
Out how? Too busy for life, or unemployed?
-
to exhausted, tend to get home and just crash out, and almost no creativity for stories or game stuff. Pretty much becoming a wage slave and few my other shadowrun friends joking i should take to shadows, heh.
-
Ah yes. That's how it goes for so very many of us. :)
-
Well, then one of us should hack the Lotto and share with all his shadowy friends who don't want to 9-5 it.
-
Excellent idea!
-
Aren't pipe dreams fun? I still hold out hope that one day I'll find Aladin's ring in a lot of junk jewelry at a rummage sale some day. Everyone knows about the lamp, they all have forgotten about the ring - even Aladin as I recall. All the better for my fantasies ;D And if the home improvement fairy ever comes, I've got a list...
-
... and as I recall, the ring is the original version of that story! :D
-
i'll pass on djinn, they is dicks. Probably give you a ton of money.. but its all stolen and marked by that uv ink, or is counterfeit, or your just buried in a giant pile of it, or most wanted criminal gets caught putting the money into your bank account and now your getting investigated...
im fun when people try and use the Wish spell in D&D
-
I can just imagine!

Deck of Many Things. These are so evil, you know you want to pull cards from this, and you know you should not, and if you get something good you just wish you'd declared for more pulls.
There's a version here: https://roll20.net/compendium/dnd5e/Deck%20of%20Many%20Things#content
but our DM was really good at customizing what was basically a D&D version of a cheesy game show. One guy got a camel that loved the the player like a hound dog, couldn't be killed or sold and insisted on sleeping in the tent next to the player. He retired from adventuring after a while, it's hard to be stealthy when a half ton camel is padding around in your wake.
-
Deck of Many Things.
Always a wierd, chaotic thing.
-
Story Time! Not SR related, rather D&D and Deck of Many Things related (and my favorite D&D story to tell). Grab your favorite beverage and strap yourselves in, this one's going to take a while.
Background:
Many many (many^?) moons ago, in high school a friend loaned me copies of the Dragonlance (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragonlance) books (the first 3). I read (and thoroughly enjoyed) them and I told him as such, so he loaned me more while also inviting me to play D&D with his group. Planned? Probably.
As the most complicated and nuanced character in the books to me, my first D&D character was going to be a "red mage" inspired by Raistlin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raistlin_Majere). I rolled stats, filled out the character sheet, and started my first game as a level 1 mage with a red robe, 2-3 spells, and a dagger. This was AD&D 2nd Edition, and my very first time ever playing any type of tabletop RPG. My first quest was to join an adventuring party (existing characters/players) and investigate a cave filled with goblins. We entered the cave and began the first round of combat where (not wanting to waste my decrepit spell list on goblins) I proceeded to critically fail swinging my dagger around. While I managed to avoid stabbing myself, I didn't manage to avoid falling on my face . Begin combat round 2 and I decide to roll to the edge of that first cave room as to remove myself from combat. Ending combat round 2 I look up to see a goblin grin and stab me in the face rolling 4 damage. Since I was a mage with only 4 HP this means my in my first 20 minutes of D&D I managed to successfully roll for initiative then critically fail a roll to attack and proceeded to get murdered with prejudice!
The DM was ruthless but fair, dice rolls happened in the open and they always stood whether they were good or bad. His approach would shape my approach to GM'ing SR in the future... but that's another story for another time.
Sitting down to roll stats for my 2nd character, among the scores I got a single 17. One of my friends recommends that I play a Paladin. After explaining it to me I thought it sounded cool so 15 year old me decided that would be my next character (still my first D&D session of my first tabletop RPG experience) and he "helps" me put the stats down where I ended up having an Intelligence of 8 since "warrior classes don't need intelligence". Thus was born Uther Pendragon the Paladin of War I was not very creative back then. The other mage of the group, a semi-psychotic whose gimmick was to paint his shaven head yellow while calling himself "The Mighty Lemonhead" (inspired by the candy he was eating at the time) convinced me that the God of War would want me to protect him so we could run around killing people and instigating conflict. I struggle getting through the rest of the session and I managed to survive while not being very Paladin-like.
A week later and we start my second D&D session. The DM hands me my character sheet and I notice next to "Class" what once was "Paladin" was now written as "Fighter" in very crude handwriting. He explained that I wasn't role playing a Paladin of the God of War appropriately and lost the god's blessing. Having gotten a little better understanding of the concepts of role playing during the week, we agree that since I hadn't used a single Paladin ability and my character's Intelligence was on the low side, the character probably didn't notice. We adventured for months as "Paladin Boy" and "Lemonhead" until ultimately the DM graduates high school and I moved onto other games.
Relevant Story (Finally!!)
Fast forward about 7-8 years where I spend weekends hanging out at a comic shop with mostly the same circle of friends. A new guy starts DMing D&D there and my same friend and former "Mightly Lemonhead" and I decide to recreate those same 2 characters for the sake of giggles. The DM took his games seriously and gave us a strange look at the description of "a semi-psychotic mage with a bald head painted yellow travelling with a dim-witted paladin of war as his personal bodyguard." We proceed to cause trouble and mayhem while creating conflict wherever we went, being true to the intentions of the characters we created. Needless to say this wasn't sitting right with a serious DM who didn't enjoy having his narrative disrupted by random and unnecessary battles.
The Dream
After several sessions we've established our roles in the party and the other players know what to expect from Paladin Boy. At this point in the adventure we're at a tavern in some town and Paladin Boy downs some mead and starts a bar fight, which is all standard fare for him. Afterwards he retires to his room to hang his chainmail and sleep off the alcohol. During his intoxicated slumber he dreams of a beautiful woman with flowing white robes who speaks to him...
Woman: "Greetings Uther."
Uther: "Uhh.. hi."
Woman: "Your travels will bring you to a place where the consequences of your actions will affect all those in the land. I offer you a quest. If you complete this quest, you will save the lives of many and be considered a hero."
Uther: "Does it involve fighting?"
Woman: "...uhh... yes?"
Uther: "Count me in."
Woman: "...oh.. okay...
After this the DM asks me what Uther does as he wakes up in the morning, to which I reply "don my armor and head down to the tavern for breakfast." The DM describes my entrance:
The paladin walks down the stairs in his shining plate mail. His holy symbol somehow glimmers off of an unknown light source in the dark tavern. He seems vastly more intelligent, and there is a sense of nobility emanating from him causing some peasants to feel they should kneel or curtsy as he passes.
This of course causes the other players to exclaim things like "what?!?", "plate mail?!?", "holy symbol?!?", "nobility?!?"
The DM then explains that one of the characters recognizes the symbol as belonging to the Goddess of Righteousness, which causes Lemonhead to exclaim "Oh crap, Paladin Boy became Paladin Man!" to much laughter.
In this new capacity, Uther lead the group on a series of quests. Some events of note:
- While the group was on a ship travelling across a sea, they were approached by a sea dragon (https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Sea_wyrm). The dragon threatened to eat the crew, showering them with a semi-acidic stench of its breath while bearing its teeth. Uther parleyed with the wyrm, offering to remove the bones stuck between its teeth in exchange for free passage of the ship and crew. The wyrm accepted, so Uther climbed into its mouth and proceeded to brush its teeth with a broom. The dragon was delighted, and let the ship and crew go free.
- The same ship and crew landed in a port town on an island. The lord of the town insisted they turn back, and not heeding his command would create a political faux pas. Uther challenged the lord to duel asking for free passage for the party. Uther promptly won the bout.
- While solving a quest to stop an undead menace, Uther found a small horse statue (https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/282891-figurine-of-wondrous-power-stone-horse) in the dungeon and took it as his only reward. His goddess granted it Paladin's Mount (http://worldofmor.us/rules/CPaH/DD05385.htm) abilities when summoned.
- While trying to destroy a "demon" threatening a kingdom, the party comes across a Deck of Many Things (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deck_of_many_things). Uther pulls 2 cards: Jack of Diamonds and King of Clubs. Uther's Constitution gets increased to 20 (granting natural regeneration and a HP increase) while his soul is sucked out of him. His goddess protected him (as well as 2 others in the party that pulled the same card) enough that he did not become catatonic, but nevertheless he felt 'empty' having lost his soul.
- After defeating the "demon" the party discovered more of the demon plot, which involved an more powerful evil entity attempting to cause a war between the two local kingdoms. The party also discovered that this entity may know how to reclaim their souls. The party attacked the evil entity's fortress and in the final battle (which took 2 different gaming sessions to complete), the party defeated the even being, returned peace to the land, reclaimed their lost souls, and were proclaimed heroes.
And that my friends is the story of how my 2nd ever D&D character from my 1st ever D&D gaming session became one of my favorite D&D characters I've ever played. Hope you enjoyed living vicariously through my past!
Those last 2 points literally took 2 months of gaming every Saturday to complete. After those last 2 points we essentially completed the story the DM had written and at that point the DM had been running that game for well over a year and needed a break. We went on to play Shadowrun and more D&D, and even some obscure games like BESM and Feng Shui. Ah the days of my youth, where freedom was high, responsibility was small, and money was non-existent.

Nice!

Sounds like we would have liked to include you guys with our bunch, Ingo :D So Deck stories, huh...
My very first table top D&D character was a thief called Galen, he did absolutely nothing of note. I think I played four of five times and then the group, never very dedicated, fell apart. Girls, if I may say, have a hard time getting a D&D game together....fast forward to higher education and I respond to a poster in the student union about a gaming group and show up. One was in a class of mine and we sat a talked about the group for a bit and he then took me to the bullpen to meet the other guys.
"Only girl here, huh?" I commented, unsurprised.
"Only girl some of these guys have ever seen," he responded.
After some snorting and grunting, characters were created and I created my one and only ever cleric - as a rule I don't care for spell chucking, and I certainly didn't think being the team band-aide was a great idea, but we were tank heavy and it seemed a reasonable choice for that party.
Tolamantha, elven cleric, in search of her missing cousin, joined a pack of adventurers going in her direction for safety in numbers. One of the party was Ooxii a fighter of very little brain, he was also anti-elf and anti-female.
To make a very long story short, we found ourselves camped in a in the ruins of a chateau reputed to be haunted. Twizzle, our halfling, found a lovely rosewood box in the broken stump of an decorative pillar in what we surmised was once the master suite. Inside the box were beautiful, illuminated, translucent ivory tiles. Yep, a very pretty Deck of many Things.
I very prudently pulled once. Gained +2 on my primary requirement.
Ooxii pulled four times, the maximum the DM allowed. One of his hirelings turned against him, but that had to wait until later when he hired someone.
He had to save vs. poison or suffer confusion for 2d4 months, he got the latter.
All magic items he possessed disappeared permanently.
And the finale, he gained a wondrous item, which thrilled him since it was his only magical item. A girdle he assumed was of giant strength, so slapped it right on, it was in fact a girdle of femininity/masculinity.
If he had been a better role player all of this could have been hilarious and fun, but what we got was a lot of sulking, but the DM was also ruthless, and he stayed a she.
I never played Tolamantha again, but she led to my best D&D character ever, her cousin, the half elf ranger who through no fault of her own wound up a god.

Holy crap.... Shadowrun 6th edition comes out this month of august!! How the hell did a 6th edition come up without me noticing!!
... Also, how the hell did it get to august without me noticing!?!?!
-
It’s funny how the Pub pops into my mind every time and again. It’s been over a year since my last visit and nice to see familiar faces and names. No idea when I will visit again but as long as the spirit is alive then will always pop in from time to time.
FYI.
Believe it or not, my daughter is now 20 years old and 2nd year university. Times flies! :alien: :alien: :alien:
-
APOC! Long time no see!
Good to see you around.
-
heyya Apoc! Long time no see!
Man, how fast the little drakes grow up!
And how it makes me feel old;p
Side question to guys, is there a good image resource for shadowrun..? Like we got these books with all this cool stuff, and im looking at you rigger 5... And they have barely any pictures in the stupid damn thing. maybe one or two on occasion, but otherwise just some shitty sort of description that doesnt say anything...
You would think they could afford to splurge on some decent art work :T
-

Dude, you're scaring me.
I subscribe to the "I refuse to admit that I am more than 29, even if that makes my children illegitimate" school of thought.
-
Heh!
I had a friend in high school who celebrated her 18th birthday at least 5 times.

Still around but age is slowly creeping up on an old dragon.

Good point.

And got it dikoted.

That would be very bling indeed!

oohh yyeeaahh.

I knew a guy dumb enough to carry something like that - same guy who shouted down at arrive Star patrols 'it's okay, we're shadowrunners!' I think he's being used for parts now.
-
... i hope not.
I mean, what if the brain rot he had was contagious..?
-
Good point. Chrome might be safer.
... for those who can afford it.
-
One of the guyz was in a group with a bunch of heavily cybered types. He was a man with a brain. The intro went like this:
"I'm Lazer."
"Brute."
"Hulkster."
"Hi. I'm Tim."

lol!

Otherwise have a great Wednesday!

Well christmas was iffy for me, but here is hoping the new year and 2020 is better! Hope the new decade treats you all well!!

2020.
I remember playing a game supplement with that year.
Yeah, okay, it was Cyberpunk, not Shadowrun, but wth. We played 'em all once upon a time.

We can never lose the pub. It's been an ongoing shadowrun community for over 20 years now. We cannot let it go.
-
C'mon boys, you need to step up and amuse me. Work has been shut down for almost two weeks now and I'm hitting a damn wall! How do some people do nothing all the time? It really must be a skill. I guess the next step is some massive spring cleaning effort just to keep me from actual physical assault on random nearby targets. You all better be healthy, too, or that'll just really send me off the rails, and that's something we all want to avoid, right? So remain healthy and fricking visit the pub so Zone has something to look forward to!
-
Heh, well, im still working.. essential services as a janitor at an airport... And god i wish i was one of the people getting a break. they doubled our work and flip out if your not doing 210 percent. company is getting this major bonus for all the extra stuff.. we dont get shit.
as for boredom..? ive been trying some of the boardgames i got, eldritch horror, arkham horror, and others, suppose to be able to play them alone, and getting things cleaned up so i can put out a table and try them solo and see how that goes, if anything learn the rules so when can hang out with friends again know them well.
-
I look at a lot of movies and plays online. The dog is getting longer walks. Wrote a short story and am plotting a mystery - a genre I have not tackled before. Not sure if it'll get written, but the exercise is interesting. The spare bedroom is spackled and ready for paint. And I wander by the pub once a week and peer through the filthy window, just for the frig of it.
-
Glad to hear you got sonething to do!
Bus schedule here is going all fucked up, now im spending almost 6 hours a day traveling with long waits between buses, juat to get to home or work. Work isnt much better either, and i so tired when i do get home its hard to do anything other then make something rough to eat, space out in my chair, then shower and crawl into bed. Even keep forgetting to check into here:T
-
Computer games and youtube. Sounds boring? I'm not saying it isn't.
-
Essential work here for me. Garbage pick-up. We are all healthy at my house. Bored as all get out. Games on PS3 and TV shows help but don't beat all. I too stop in now once or twice a week.
-
I've been picking a single actor, and working my way through his entire filmography - or at least as much as I can while in iso..so far I've been making my way through the works of Peter Wingfield, Zachary Levi, and Robert Sheehan - mostly because I have access to series these guys have been in. Yes, all guys, I want me some eye candy!!
And holy crap, I am going nuts without access to a library or bookstore. I need me some tactile reading material, not just light and shadows on a device!
Who wants to bet that there's going to be a mini baby boom in about nine months time....
-
In 9 months.. are we going to call this generation Covidials? Coronials? It's definitely going to be a different world for them, kind of a post-pandemic world (as a opposed to post-apocalyptic).
As for me, I'm in the same boat as Root. On my PC every day watching or playing whatever. I've been watching a fair share of woodworking videos, I supposed I'm going to start a new hobby. This is all of course in between bursts of work, of which I'm blessed that my job can be performed from home.
:bob:
EDIT:
And apparently I can't even log into the right account correctly!
-
Ahhh that's better!
-
Who wants to be that there's going to be a mini baby boom in about nine months time....
No bet. My better half and I already made that guess a month ago.
Not that we're likely to contribute, but still.
-
LOL ingomonkey?! would that be this guy?

Hey that's Mojo-jojo, I'm nowhere near as cool as him!
-
Hey!! Good to see ya again Ingo!
Im still plugging away at work.. found out that i i was one of the "unlucky" people who got a temp layoff whnmen things got shit down id be getting over about 900 A WEEK in unemployment to sit around and do nothing...
As it stands, im getting 600 a month working y ass off to do 2 peoples jobs....
Really efficent way to kill ones motivation...

Have any of you ever played SR on a virtual space like Roll20 and what not? If yes, what was it like playing or GMing?
-
No online sim for me. And RootLess if you need reading material I can hook you up with a few sites for e-books. Shadowrun PDFs and general books from all genres!
-
Please do
-
I watched an online tutorial and made something that looks quite like this: (https://i.pinimg.com/originals/52/48/39/524839640b47e7b4290574fbcb04f4cb.jpg)
Although the one pictured isn't the one I made, it looks enough like it to make little difference. And since one is supposed to name quilts, mine is called "This is Why I Didn't Shoot Anyone this Week"

Nope, but did play D&D and Only War on roll20 for a while, worked pretty well but takes either some fast drawing skills, or a good bit of pre-planning.
-
Have we seen this yet? It's an update of a previous effort...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4wj3z45314
-
Potentially interesting.
First time I learn of it.
-
This one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CADEGqkxNV0) isn't half bad. The Plasma weapons are a bit silly maybe, but you'll live.
-
The first one of us to actually win the lottery and have stupid money to piss away, we'll fund a Shadowrun movie...
So who do we cast and as what?
-
Ruski as expert adviser for the no-bodies playing sec guards? ;)
-
hey folks,
Shits going fucky right now, and Just wanna say i hope you all are taking care and keeping safe. Please remember you got friends here!
The best to all of you and yours! Take care, Keep safe, and Stay Healthy!

Well, Ingo's here, so that's good.

Isn't Ingo always scuttling away behind the wainscoting?

Well, I'm back at work.
Who knew my novelty bandana collection would actually come in useful one day.

*Disclaimer: not actual collection just an example of the kind of non-standard types I have.
-
Nice.
Is it safe for you to be back at work?
-
What's safe? People die in road accidents every day and yet we still drive. So there's a pandemic, that doesn't mean we must cower and moan. People should not live in fear - that's not living. A few reasonable precautions, and you should just get on with things. Caution is one thing, fear is quite another. The world doesn't stop spinning and time doesn't stop ticking, so live your life, no matter what else is going on, what other chance are you going to get?
-
Hehe, i have some yhe same. Bought giant paxk of xl black bandanas for general use. Now of great use. Even got bored making up kinda costume thing.
Cheap airsoft face guard, held on with magnetic snaps on bandana and mask to make it easy to take on and off. Upper face would have been left exposed, but place i first posted picture on dont allow selfies.

Hard to contradict this.

What was all that?! Was the pub really gone?! I'd miss it if it fell into the abyss.

Happy new year folks, best to and wishes the coming isnt as much a raging flaming cunt.
-
Hard to disagree with that
-
Sadly, 2021 is following in its older brothers footsteps.. heres hoping it will grow out of the phase..
-
We'll give it a month or so, neh?
-
Sadly, the situation we're in has given power to people who should never be allowed to dictate - virologists in particular, when given power beyond their field of expertise, are a often bunch of tin plated, germ freak, social misfits who want everyone to do as they do and think as they think, and they've had a year of conditioning to get that bs started. Not to mention that the more frighted people are, the more you can push them around, and in the US the new administration is guaranteed to try and keep that dynamic going - from bullying boob to faction whore influence peddler, the US is no better off. Oh, for a president with common sense and intellect, but we went from Tin Man to Cowardly Lion.
-
I couldn't possibly comment on internal US politics* but as far as I can tell, the 46th president will still be an upgrade from the 45th one.
And the virologists have a point: You can't contribute to the economy if you're dead. Not will you have any freedoms.
* Actually, I probably could, but I won't.

Hey chummers
Popping in as it’s been a while. Seeing how all is doing. All good on my side. Still alive and kicking as well as the family.
Look forward to hear from those that still drop in here.
-
Hi there Apoc- busy year for you I'd imagine ;)
Still in Japan?
-
Hey Rootless
I actually moved back to the US about 10 years ago for various reasons.
I still go to Japan for my wife’s family and work reasons. But not in the last year due to Covid. No complaints as the travel worn me down a lot so been nice to have a routine for a change. How are things in your area?
It’s been a while so forgive my memory if wrong but you were in the EU, correct?
-
It’s been a while so forgive my memory if wrong but you were in the EU, correct?
So very easily forgiven! Yes, I've in the EU area. And not in a country that's (more or less) left it, so that narrows things down a bit ;)
Things are much the same as everywhere I guess. COVID keeps people inside, and I'm growing ever older :-/
-
Great hint. I love it. I have a friend near Newcastle that I have know for a long time. We met in Japan and stay in contact still even after all these years.
It’s hate to say but a Covid had been great for me. I love having a regular eating and sleeping schedule while being able to recover my health. Plus spending all the time with my wife. Daughter is in third year in university now so she hasn’t visited home as often. We had our first Christmas without her this year but was able to have a virtual one. Sent her some presents beforehand and she opened them online together. It was still fun so feel we have adjusted well.
Hope nobody gets sick but we seem to be doing good so far.
-

I can totally relate to that!

I can totally relate to that!
[/quote]
Then you must be or was in a similar situation to me.
-
I too have benefited from COVID in the sense that I get to work from home, and work/life balance is much better (but maybe not so much since I work a lot)
-
I too have benefited from COVID in the sense that I get to work from home, and work/life balance is much better (but maybe not so much since I work a lot)
I was like that at first but just made some boundaries little by little then now it’s been good. Do you think that you’ll have to return to the office at some point? Or permanent?
I think my company is still deciding what to do exactly.
-
Oooh, a dragon. Hello, Apoc, you have depressed me no end telling us your kid is in Uni. That means we've been coming to this pub far longer than I care to admit.
Kids I knew who wore droopy diapers are now friggin Green Berets for frack's sake!!!
I think I'll go with the Lady Astor on this time thing, she refused to admit to older than 30ish even if it did make her kids illegitimate and/or impossible. Not that birthdays are really a thing with me, I merely expect my nearest and dearest to supply one 'unbirthday' gift to me once a year, every year, date unimportant, as long as I get some swag at some point, every year. I'm nothing if not entirely reasonable ;)
-
Oooh, a dragon. Hello, Apoc, you have depressed me no end telling us your kid is in Uni. That means we've been coming to this pub far longer than I care to admit.
It’s still a bit surreal for us as we can’t believe sometimes how fast it has gone and to think starting back in the old Shadowrun Pub before Ingo created this space for us pubbers. Now that I have more time on my hands , then I’m hoping to continue to frequent the Pub more consistently than my once or twice a year drop by to say hi. Missed the gang and the convos so hope to keep the lights on in the Pub for as long as possible.
-
Excellent. I plan to stop by every once in a while too :)
-
Excellent. I plan to stop by every once in a while too :)
If I don’t then I can count on my chummers to give me a swift kick in the rear.
-
If I don’t then I can count on my chummers to give me a swift kick in the rear.
Sure! But... Apoc, you're a fragging Dragon!
If I kinck your hoop too hard, my foot'll break, as likely as anything ;)
-
Excellent. I plan to stop by every once in a while too :)
If I don’t then I can count on my chummers to give me a swift kick in the rear.
Oooh, can I? I'd love to put dragon arse kicker on my résumé.
-
Didn’t realize so many people were so eager to do so. I may have to rethink my comments. I guess that’s what I get for spending too much time in Astral Space. Thought I was educating myself but seem to have forgotten the small things.
-
Nah, just happy to have you back ;)
-
It’s good to be back. Sometimes that little thing called life gets in the way ;). Been busy all these years but slowing my life down a bit and enjoying things that need to be enjoyed.
-
Trying to check in or post more often.
Hopefully will get some more discussions going.
Hope other chummers out there are alright.
-
Seems like a plan!
-
It always was a good place to swing buy when the shit is flying.
-
Any time, really
-
Many a good times have been had in the pub. Shame we couldn’t get sl of the old members to pop in and give us an update.
-
So true.
-
If a pubber disappears into the night, do they make a sound?
-
Only if they try...
-
May also depend if magic enhanced or pure tech as well? ???
-
Only if they try...
Depends on how much heavy ordnance they have squirreled away.
Sorry i tend to go quiet for long bouts. RL has been rough and taking its toll leaving me in some heavy ruts to work out of.
Hope things are going better for you lot!
Keep safe chummers!
-
Doing well here. Glad to hear from you.
Shoot me a message when you have a chance.
Would be nice or catch up again.
-
If a pubber disappears into the night, do they make a sound?
Two answers to that...
Column A: Yes. With incendiaries, tracer rounds, and small scale explosions accompanied by a hell of a lot of chatter on the airwaves.
Column B: Pubber? What's that?
-
Column B: Pubber? What's that?
This made me giggle ;D
-
Hellooooo!
-
Good to see someone pop in as I been trying to frequent more often as I miss the energy of the pub.
-
Well, it's been a relatively shitty week, so didn't get much extramural participation in. But really, as long as the pub is here, I'll be popping in.
If nothing else is happening here, every once in a long while I go read a few pages from 'padding,' sometimes we were funny as hell.
-
My back hurts... I think I'm getting old...
-
My back hurts... I think I'm getting old...
aren't we all?
-
We did have a lot of good times and yes they were quite hilarious.
Yes, my back hurts too……it is old age…my doctor told me…. :'(
-
...it is old age...
Screw that! Not going to cave to that kind of pressure. I will never admit to more than 29 even if it will make my spawn impossible eventually, who can then just suck it up and go with the foundling from Krypton thing if necessary.
-
LoL….the resistance makes you sound young so can pass for being young. I envy the energy. Lost mine so enjoying the peacefulness.
-
Screw that! Not going to cave to that kind of pressure. I will never admit to more than 29
I have a friend who used to invite me to her 18th birthday. I think I went to 8 of them before she decided to cave ;)
-
“Thirty-five is a very attractive age. London society is full of women of the very highest birth who have, of their own free choice, remained thirty-five for years.”
Lady Bracknell, The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde
Jack Benny said, "Age is strictly a case of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." A “stuck on 39” running gag got started the year after Jack Benny celebrated his “first” 39th birthday on the air. It was so much fun he decided to do the same thing the next year, because “There’s nothing funny about 40.” Jack would celebrate his 39th birthday 41 times. Headlines in 1974 reported “Jack Benny Dies - At Age 39?”
And of course the old Adage, You're only as old as you feel.
I am far too ornery to allow something as mundane as chronological time dictate to me ;)
-
Lol…it’s amazing how age conversations leads to a discussion.
Personally, I like to age as I feel wiser and get more reason to let me know that I just don’t give a drek.
-
Oh, sweetie, I felt wiser than most folks when I was 6, and haven't given a drek since I was 11. Hadn't you guessed that about me? ;D
-
Then you were ahead of the game than most.
-
Heh, i just turned 39 on the 7th.
And my fave saying is...
-
Heh! Save that saying for when you've turned 40 ;)
-
Ha ha! I do agree with Root though. Once you pass 40 then things start to break down. A lot of “I didn’t know I could have pains there” and “what the hell did I do to hurt myself, all I did was literally sit down”.
-
Ppfftt. amateurs. Ive been getting those for more then a decade already.
If anything from exercising more and eating better ive felt in better condition then i have in a while.. though could do much better.
Issue for me is as joked, milage. Lots of injuries and they all accumulate. Specially when the company fucks you over on disability assistance or everything else they can.
Least megacorps take care of their employees.
....
Ok. Comparitively. ... somewhat. ... kinda.
-
From every genre movie and novel I've seen, the retirement plan tends to suck with corps.
-
Considering most of the retirement plans probably end with…..
We throwing you a party and it’s in Room X6.
Go ahead step through there and you’ll get the retirement of your dreams…opens door into dark room and hear a small sound as plop.
Meanwhile around the soy cafe machine, he just left and retired without saying anything to anybody, hope he’s enjoying his retirement.
-
Friggin hell!!! Tacoma and rest of washington are/were melting!!
Its cooled down to about 85... but still thats high for us.
Hope the rest of you guys remembered to upgrade your decks cooking systems and packed your meatbods in ice before going for a swim in the Trix.
Serious wise hope all of you have some decent weather and are keeping safe!
-
85 f?! That's ... even worse than here. And I'm not liking the weather much these days myself.
Remember to stay hydrated Cap!
-
Ha, ill take 85. For the weekend it was about 100-110f. 85 is about 10 higher then usual give or take. Not pleasant, but by comparison its good. And yeah. Making special care to hydrate, power went out while sleeping and room got up way to high without me waking up for several hours (hazard of undergound apartment by boilers.. without ac it cooks) thankfully i dont pay for power so that sucker us on 24/7!!!
-
Where I'm at it hits over 100 for days at a time at least 3 times each summer season.
Good insulation and AC is a must. I think that's what messed up a lot of folks in the north west, they almost never get super hot temps so there isn't a need to have an AC unit.
-
Sorry to hear about the troubles over there. Makes me glad to be in the Midwest even if we have unpredictable weather. The weather report in Chicago will show it’s sunny when it’s a thunderstorm overhead. But wait 30 mins then it’ll be accurate.
-
According to google, no temperature higher that 97.52 F has ever been measured in this country...
EDIT: and I'm pretty much a vegetable once we hit 70-75 F or so...
-
What’s your lows?
Temps sounds nice in your area.
-
-24.2 F
It hasn't gone that low in decades mind you, global warming is a thing.
And it's (at least in part) because we only have small amounts of land with lots of coastline. Which means that the temperature is much more stable across the year than somewhere where you have a large continental area, like continental US. IIRC.
-
Right. I have a friend in your neck of the woods but I think more North if you. But my image is stable weather for your area but maybe cloudier than others.
-
LOL! Cloudy isn't wrong.
-
Was trying to keep it as polite as possible. That was the best way to describe it. Us dragons have to keep our manners.
-
Polite manners appreciated ;)
-
What the hell, boys? Over two weeks since anyone checked in, how are we supposed to continue as pathetic pikers and half arsed dilettantes without just a tad more effort? ;D
-
Lol, you're right!
How lack luster of us!
-
We need a kick in the read sometimes.
I took a staycation and wa staying to make sure unplugged.
I will it’s amazing how busy a staycation can be especially when work knows you are supposed to be unavailable.
-
I will it’s amazing how busy a staycation can be especially when work knows you are supposed to be unavailable.
lol!
So true!
-
I feel like I’m still recovering and it was almost three weeks ago.
-
Age does that to you chummer
-
Time to say something when it gets quiet after a few weeks….

Okay, so I messed up my knee and was limited as to leaping about as normal, so went outside and clipped a leaf off the milkweed, and have now raised me a Monarch from egg to caterpillar, and judging by the sudden stoppage of constant eating, soon butterfly - you would never guess how much crap one of these guys puts out! Mo is an eating/crapping machine. Yes, I named him :P
It looks like he's starting to pupate, if that's how you spell it. What a weird freaking life form this thing is. If you are ever laid up in the summer, I can recommend watching one of these little buggers for entertainment. Plus if you live where they live, every success at home grow means another monarch on the migration - caterpillar survival in the wild is about 12% tops.
-
Mo. Nice.
-
Mo. For THE MONARCH!!!!!
-
lol.
Mo is a little greenish pod right now, becoming an entirely different form of life. Really, this metamorphosis stuff is so weird, proof that a higher power likes to mess with us: lets see if they can find the logic behind this!
What Mo looks like now - and for the next 10 days or so: https://pulpbits.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Monarch-Butterfly-Pupa.jpg
Once the butterfly emerges will be able to tell if Mo is a girl or a guy, apparently you can tell by wing markings. Who knew?
Also been discussing an RPG called Superheros (?) in any case the PCs are supposed to be superheroes. Anyone got info, anecdotes, opinions on that one?
-
ive played a couple super hero games, mainly the old Marvel "Faserip" "Marvel SuperHeroes" which was an odd one.. Which was.. eehh. bit convoluted and weird and all. mostly a "regulated" freeform which was pretty fun.
-
Haven't really played superhero games (unless you count Exalted).
Have read a few. I ... get the impression that it's very hard to write a good super hero game. :-/

so.. for last week been sitting about waiting to hear from work on if im fired or not. I work as a janitor, and a general rule is "never clean desks" doesnt matter if there is a 6 foot high pile of crap on the desk, dont touch it. If they even think anything is missing and say "theft" your 90 percent likely to get fired.
Well, evidently this also means on anything near a desk. Security camera shows me picking up something small, white, and crumpled up, and putting it in my pocket. it was a bit of trash, we got big ole cargo pants cause its easy to just dump small things in there and empty then stop and carry it in your hand, or look around for another trash can, which you might have already emptied (and if you dump anything in, it obviously wasnt emptied at all) At a point you dont even think about it any more... Which is how i got a half eaten pouch of tuna dripping in my pocket once. Now i fill it with a plastic garbage bag as a liner to be safe.
anyways, security camera spotted it, and company complained, which admitedly, it does look bad. The sent the video to my company and said dont want me in the area any more, and work has to investigate or something to figure out what to do. So now im sitting around waiting to hear from the union, or work. or something.
not been a great week honestly.

So sorry, I feel your pain. Also lost a job to bullshit once...actually more than once, I just remembered the only other time I ever got cut loose - I was working as an assistant manager in a book store between high school and college, hired because I grasped how everything worked instantly. It was an alphabet based system, it wasn't too taxing. But when I actually took the managing part seriously and did things, streamlined processes, and made changes, making things run so much smoother, omg! the store manager was apparently so threatened, she told me things 'weren't working out' and fired me the week before Christmas. I blinked at her and asked if she was seriously letting the assistant manager go the week before Christmas. Yup, she was. The busiest retail week of the year, tells you about her brain power, eh? Especially since I was leaving in May, anyway. The rest of the crew however, made sure I took my Christmas bonus - $75 worth of books. No cash, they were cheap, but the crew - against policy charged be the employee discount price for the bonus books which were, of course, supposed to go at retail. I got some very nice books that year.
I hope things work out for you and that sensible heads prevail, one hopes there are such heads out there still. I mean there's us, so there must be others, right?
-
*Sigh*
Employers!
-
It?s amazing how the world works these days. I think all of us have been though the drek at one time or another. I could definitely give you my fair share but it?s not even worth justifying to write all the instances even the recent ones. I may have to write the one about what to my brother.
He?s a prison guard and been working a long time doing it. However, he was accused of abuse by some prisoners which led to an investigation, etc. long story short, he and a couple others are no longer guards there as they simply didn?t have proof and the prisoners word won out over theirs.
Simply it was not a good situation.
Personally, I try to take a different approach these days and just take things a day at a time and each each for what it is. I can only do what I can do and try not to worry about the rest that I can?t control. Know that doesn?t really help but I do hope things work out for you in the end. Hang in there chummer.

UPDATE
On the morning of September 16, have broken out of chrysalis sometime around dawn when all witnesses were sensibly asleep, Mo the Monarch was carried out to the backyard in his bug box and allowed to dry his wings in the sun and wind. He was presented with a patch of goldenrod which he utterly ignored, launching on his maiden flight at 11:11 AM, landing about 15 feet up on a leaf of a butternut tree in an obvious wtf! moment. He then flew off to wherever newly fledged Monarchs go.
As butterflies go he was pretty huge, having stayed a caterpillar about 2 days longer than average and in chrysalis 2-4 days longer than average, and if all the Monarch blogs are right, he was a he. And so we end the Saga of Mo, the rest can only be speculation.
-
Nice!
Thanks for keeping us updated.

So... lost my job. Took bout 3 weeks of bullshit. my employer used it as a chance to trim the crew as i think they want to get rid of the section as its not making money. Gave me deal of "resign and we wont protest your unemployment, or say anything bad against you, file grievence and we will fight it all we can and say absolutely nothing good" so i took the deal. managed to get my leftover vacation pay... Hopefully, it should come in friday.. (otherwise im fucked..) and trying to get the stuff with Unemployment worked out, but god damn if they arent the most unhelpful.
Searching about now, trying to find something decent but for damn if im not feeling just used up and burnt out. God damn union didnt do shit to help me either, just told me to take the deal as they "werent sure they could win". Most the help i did get was from the Managers and others i worked with.
now just.. kinda searching. if vacation pay goes through and the unemployment, might take kinda vacation, havent had one in over... god, since i started really looking for work so long ago..
Thankfully, and possibly ironicly, one thing i have to help support myself is an Excess of electronics and stuff from working at the airport. id find headphone and such then turn them into lost and found and fill out the paper work, if nobody claimed they would give them back (usually.. im sure quite a few things i turnd in just disappeared..) to me a couple months later. Quite a few pieces of fancy stuff, like bose headphones, ibeats, tablets, and so forth. just been gathering dust so might as well get them fully cleaned up and see what i can get on ebay. much less painful to sell then my RPG books, granted, couple of them are worth almost as much as those 350 dollar headphones...
-
I must admit I don't fully understand the "resign and we wont protest your unemployment"-part. In a civilized country, surely your past employer has nothing to do with unemployment benefits?
-
Simply, that just sucks. However, this seems to be happening across the board. If any of us can help a chummer, let us know. Will do what we can.
-
If im remembering correctly, previous employer pays a tax thing on employees that are let go of "no fault of their own" and can protest it so they arent paying extra or something. Honestly not entirely sure but this is america where lots of the country seems to hold fine with "long as its not me fuck them".
That said... got an interview with security company tomorrow, though not to hopeful as they want military, police, or previous security experience, and mines kind of incidental as airport work.
But also just got off phone with janitor company offering lead cleaner position at an amazon warehouse! Doesnt pay as much, but still not bad. Told them i want to checl this other job before making a decision, but will let them know tomorrow.
Now just got antsy jitters at everything happening all at once!
Thabks for good wishes Peeps! Seems they came through!
-
I just hope you'll find something Capt.
-
ha! well.. I just found something! Got security job with hospital close by. pays 21 an hour, 35 hours a week, ton of benefits and all! If anythin getting canned was a good thing for me now!
that said.. god damn im tired after that tension and everything, and am going to stuff my face with something thats hopefully food, and get a long nap in..
So if any of you lot are doing runs in a hospital, and see a suspiciously vampy looking security guard, i do ask you guys keep it quiet til "he" goes off shift...
Cause i need this job damn it;p
-
Nice, 'grats!
-
I?m ecstatic to hear that it has worked out on a positive note. Always rooting for you. Didn?t notice any vamps last time I looked. ;DI
-
Hehehe, just got all the training and such done. Fewer hours then expected, but still decent bit, and option for extra shifts. So should work out fine. Now just wait and see when first day on property is! Thanks for all the support Peeps! May good wishes in return to you and yours!
-
Knock 'em dead!
... no, wait ... probably best not to do that actually...
-
Day one! GO TIME!!!!!
Wish me luck chummers!
-
Best of luck chum!
-
Day one! GO TIME!!!!!
Wish me luck chummers!
:hyper:
-
Hope all is going well chummer.
-
Its going! turns out working as a guard is pretty damn boring. least in my position which is part greeter. Not a whole lot else to do til they get things figured out more!
Hope everything is going well for all of you!
-
So now you're officially that clued-in sec guard that everyone here have been trying to dodge for years? ;)
-
Yup! Bribes start at 500 depending on the situation and needs!
Heh, though, we had one guy that EVERY runner loves. Snuck off to take nap on shift, disappears for hours, ignored obvious stuff rigjt infront of him, in that mindless oblivious way, not the "aint paid nuff"
He got fired quick.
-
Nice!
'grats!
-
Good on you. Seems a lot calmer situation than one of my Boyz did - his security post was in an 'interesting' neighborhood. He was stationed in a residential building, but they had to do things like rake the syringes out of the parking lot before the kids went for the school bus, break up regular fights from the people who left the syringes (he wore a vest, thank goodness, because he got hit by a ricochet once and got lunged at with a knife once), and throw stoners and non-residents out of the building, which often resulted in more of the above. He got to know the local cops quite well.
Now you can all direct those good thoughts at me. Worked for North after all.
-
Now you can all direct those good thoughts at me. Worked for North after all.
Certainly!
-
Youch.
Yeah, the area isnt to bed, and its bit out of the way so most had to deal with this far is a couple people really distraut over loved ones passing but was able to help them calm. And they are slowly adding things to route, now mostly just some foot patrols in parking lot with instructions of anything fucky, stay out of sight and call real security.
Heh, mostly we realized im largely a scarecrow, which i might dress up as for halloween!
And good vibes set to high and directed to ya Zone!
-
Heh, mostly we realized im largely a scarecrow, which i might dress up as for halloween!
Yay for scarecrows!
-
sudden swerve of topic, but just got word of good online friend passing back in august from covid complications. just got word now. So all of you please take care and keep safe ok? You all represent the oldest group of online friends im still in touch with!
-
Doing my best.
You too cap.
-
Roger that Chummer.
right now biggest "threat" is work not getting me my pay in proper amount or on time.. :T which im hollering at them over and hoepfully fixed soon!
-
Hey wait, did someone just call me old?
-
Hey wait, did someone just call me old?
Unthinkable! Impossible!
-
Hey,
Your only young once.
But you can be childish forever.
-
I thought it was something like an old soul but young at heart.
Still hanging in there Capt?
Covid is no joke. My wife and I have been very fortunate and nothing so far. Unfortunately, my father did pass away about a month ago due to Covid but he had other health complications and that just pushed him over.
-
Sorry to hear bout your dad Apoc, always a sad thing when the grand old dragons pass, may he rest well.
And im surviving, pushing through and keeping on. though as its halloween, and work is slow in fixing payroll issues.. No treat (in the form of a paycheck) So playing a trick by calling in. ... Well, mostly im calling in cause seem to have caught a stomach bug thats got me just enough i cant make it to work... but still. they dont get it together soon gonna go to L&I and have them rip it out their pocket :T
issue is company i signed onto was like a week out from getting absorbed by a bigger company, that was also absorbing in another company. Both absorbees had their own 3rd party payroll stuff, that nobody really talked to, and thats janked everything up evidently..
hopefully will get their thumbs out their asses and fix it soon.
Hope the rest of you all are having a spook-tacular halloween! take care, keep safe, and if you get any of that candy with the drugs in it... Save it for a later date cause that stuffs expensive!
-
Covid is no joke. My wife and I have been very fortunate and nothing so far. Unfortunately, my father did pass away about a month ago due to Covid but he had other health complications and that just pushed him over.
My condolences.
-
Thanks chummers. Appreciate the kind words.
Hang in Cap. You?ll get through it.
-
Its getting worked out! got the last check now, and badgering HR and the Operations manager in a "friendly" style and telling them things like how ive gotten other companies railed by L&I over payroll issues, and how proper security there likes me, has offered a job, and said would Vouch for me having worked my hours when ever i need..
All friendly like. when you threaten them politely without making direct threats it can be even more effective!
-
Congratulations on things actually working for a change!
-
Glad to hear things are going well.
-
hey folks! just wanted to wish all of you a happy holidays with christmas and other things coming up!
Hope you all are doing well, and got all your holiday plans (or lack of) locked down and good to go!
Things are going smoothly here, not much of anything going on. new jobs working just fine, and getting lots of props from the hospital for my help! they figure my patrols have helped ward off a good bit of theft (sadly not stop it completely...) and been able to help a good few people around the place. Not a Major thing, but enough that people are happy!
still the hardest thing is not falling asleep on the slow days. got the OK to pop in an earbud when things get slow and listen to audio book, but still.. hehe. A good problem to have though!
All of you take care and keep safe! hope to hear things are going good for you all!
-
Hey Capt
Glad that?s things are on the up and up. Well deserved for sure.
Happy Holidays to you as well chummer.
-
Merry X-mass Cap'n
-
Happy New Year chummers! Hope you have a great year.
-
Adding my felicitations, mostly, of course, because I get to use felicitations in a sentence. That's not something that crops up all that often. Well, that and I sincerely wish you mangy runners well. Good new year to y'all.
-
Unlikely.
but hopefully better than last year...
-
Heyya Apoc! It shaping out as a year! Massive snow storms to start, will have to see how it continues! Hope yours is flowing smoothly!
-
The Midwest just started getting cold. Usually we have snow in Chicago by Halloween but did have any until last couple days of December. It?s finally cold which means everyone wants it to be warm again. :P
-
It's finally cold which means everyone wants it to be warm again. :P
Yep. Always. ;)
-
Aaaahhhh, tax time. Where you start considering putting together a job to go in amd steal yout w2 papers from the company your cover ident works for so you can file on time, And have to figure how to report the 500000 nuyen you stole from a corps secret off the books slush fund. Do you list it as a tip? Gambling windfall? Can you claim that docwagon ride you cheated by faking to be their actual patient?
As for why to pay taxes...
-
That?s classic. Love it.
-
's got a point you know
-
Now convinced the Vikings were right - hell is a cold place.
-
Yup. Cold, damp, nothing happening...
-
That's pretty much the idea, yeah.
-
Cant wait for it to warm up a bit more as lets me bike to work rather then bus. Might take little longer, might not, butblets me work my own schedule as opposed to the bus. And being ebike 9 miles isnt to far to go when can charge it up at work.
That and no more bright and sunny but actually freezing cold parking lot checks. Reallyike that one.
-
Riding the bike can be nice
-
Think everyone is just about ready for warmer weather. It?s been cold and windy in Chicago. Even us dragons like our heat.
-
I always thought dragons especially liked the heat
-
Well, except for yer basic ice dragon. We can make you a sweet deal on a used dragon, purty much ev'ry one's tired of the icy buggers. They come in white and...well white.
I mean, c'mon I'm sitting here in my office wearing fuzzy socks had and a freakin snuggie - how's that for image?
-
LOL!
-
I feel like you just described the Shadowrun version of Santa Claus.
-
LOL, now where's that fraggin karma button, haven't bestowed any in ages....
-
... friends been employing me for ideas and things in their games, which i have no objections to! Also figured id offer up one that was enjoyed for you lot to possibly use.
Game pitched for takes place in seattle/tacoma, but works for any port area roughly..
Group is approached by johnson/fixer or any group, they back a group of smugglers thats gone silent after landing in the docks where the meet was setup. They are being employed to find what happened, and hopefully recover the items or get a solid lead on where they went.
Area knowledge, asking about, or anything like that shows this dock area has a bad reputation, was formerly a meeting place for smugglers to off load goods and such, but after people started going missing, some heavily armed people, it was slowly marked off the list. Thing is even now it persists, the occasional ganger looking to hide from Heat, junkies looking to Juice, or even just the occasional homeless person looking for a dry spot just go missing..
Whennthe group does finally go the find the place a mess, large webs stuck in rafters, crunched bits of bone and armor, and just a terrible oppressive feeling in the place.
Maybe a couple fights with some para critters, and rhey make it to the warehouse as directed. Its built right on the waterline so that things can be loaded/unloaded quickly, but is very much abandoned.
Exploring inside they find the remains of the smugglers and their gear scattered about and torn apart. Very little is viable at this point, and something powerful tore through them.
If the group has done the novel thing of say... sticking to the shadows, give them perception checks to notice the sound of something exiting and enteringbthe water, spotting the rings as it does so, notice how the roof creaks and shifts in paths as if something is moving in it.. unless theu roll MAJORLY good, what comes should be a surprise.
When te group is in he warehouse and checking things out, from the water erupts a MASSIVE SpiderMoose bull, an absolute beast of a creature that attacks the party for a good fight (adjust stats as needed to give a good challenge). Of injured to much the creature dives back into the water to escape for a time and get the element from surprise and dropping from the rafters, or some other secret area.
For other twists, maybe another group has been hired to go into the warehouse and collect the goods. A gunfight between them and the PCs could draw the SpiMoos attention, providing a "Rescue" for the pcs if the fight is going badly, or they can lure the group to the warehouse getting them to fight the creature and weaken both sides. It could go in many different ways.
Decide loot as you wish, but i liked the idea of giving them the option to possibly buy up/rent the area for a cheap price as its "Cursed" giving them a good discrete hiding spot they can setup as a base. Of course... they should be wary when the spider mooses eggs hatch... if they can find them...
I got the idea from reading one of the critters books, amd saw a comic by pet foolery...
-
That is classic. Love it. Good idea as well. I know I would like to get a game going eventually but don?t know if I will. Got to find a group first then play?.
-
Got to find a group first then play?.
That is the traditional solution, anyway ;)
-
Hehe, thats always the hard part.
Job has shifted so now gotta find a new one, which is likely to axe the two games im in, or if im lucky just one...
That said, new shadowlands auctions up! Unwiped security cards and badges! Key rubbings and broken shanks! Detailed layouts and floor plans! Which employees nd managers that nobody likes and what access they have where!
Its a shadow fire sale!!! All items must goooooo!!!!
Hahahah. Gives me idea of short story... corpo goon fires security person that nakes good money to try and pad their budget.. with a couple "corperate regulation fines" on top. Just because they can.
One of their junior managers just freezes up upon hearing this, all sycophancy gone
"YOU WHAT!?!?! They were the only reason we werent gettin runners in here wvery other weekend! Do you have any idea what knowledge and access they have on our facility, our people, EVERYTHING!!! They are a former runner who used to hit places like ours all the time, and the contacts to sell everything they know on how to get in!! If they decide not to do it themself!!!"
Whoa! Dont get your panties in a knot! If its really that bad ill send a wipe squad to take then out. Christ. You really think that one person could even hope to go against a corp our size? Sure we arent big five but what can some stupid retired gutter crawler do?
<corp goon stares in horror for a long and silent moment> "HE TRAINED THE WIPE SQUAD YOU FETHING MORON!! DID YOU NEVER REALLY NOTICE HIS "STANDARD SERVICE SIDEARM" WAS A FREAKING WALTHER ASSAULT CANNON!?!?! That... thats it. Im transfering. Immediately. And im telling the head office exactly how badly you fucked up!"
Over the speakers and local audio net, this starts to play..

Cute story!

I agree with Root. Pretty good story!
-
APRIL!? you couch weasles haven't posted since April without me riding herd on you? What's up with that? Come on boys, how am I supposed to entertain myself without pubbites holding forth? Now hold something forth dammit!
-
Wow, it has been a while, hasn't it.
In other news, my body sucks and the medicine is expensive.
So, nothing new. :-/
-
And I haven't seen a fixer or made a deal in a year, so yeah, the world is definitely on that last slope before the hand basket we're all riding in gets to the final destination.
I find I keep looking for fairies at the bottom of the garden because no matter how capricious and cold they may be it's nothing to what is currently being dealt to the masses, and I want some damn wishes!
Of course, the whole mental image of one's body sucking is pretty out there too, mate. Makes one want to lend a rubber plug or something.
-
It?s funny as I was thinking the same. I kept seeing that I was the last message so just keep waiting. But finally someone posted so I could again too!
-
That sounds awfully familiar...

there, three new posts, boys, go crazy!

LOL!
... not sure it'll work that way ... ;)

hurgh.
april, march, and may gone busy for me. finished move nad new job ans was getting into swing of things, last week while going into work bike skid out from under me and broke my wrist in the fall. and as i wass still in probational stage of new job... well, cant wait the 6 weeks, at best, for recovery for me. so had to let me go, though said would happily rehire if spot open and im healed.
kinda helps as surgery to pin wrist back togethers gonna be 60k on top of er visit. no job means can try for medicaid and financial assist, which might wipe cost completely.
thankfully roomie is awesome, and fine to cover rent as still helping keep place clean and cooking. family offering to help how they can as well. mostly right now really want a pizza, or good pho, my arm to stop aching, and be able to get more then 2-3 hours of sleep...
hope things going better for the rest of you!!
-
sorry, guy, that sucks. if it makes you feel in company one of my boyz has been going through shite hip deep, too, his car crapped out, so he lost his job that he could not get to, got his bike up and running then 3 months later the tire blew and he can't afford a new one, that's ok though, because two days later a van stopped in front of his place tossed his bike in the back and drove off with it (at least it didn't have a new tire on it), police report and lower than expected blue book on the bike, so back to the car the papers for which are now 3 months behind - and today he's in court for driving a car with an expired registration. We're all praying he gets out of there without a contempt charge or something, because there's no indicator his crap slide is over or not.
-
I will say that I appreciate where I am in life. Can always complain but really got no reason. Will just be thankful that I?m breathing another day and can still run the shadows.
-
update:
surgery went fine, wasnt as bad as they expected.
that said as i got 2 paychecks in may, one technically from previous month, i cant get medicaid, so get the whole bill unless hospitals help me on the financial assistance.
im... so damn tired. just feel so damn worn out and like there isnt a thing i can do.
not trying to do anything fancy, just start a life. decent apartment with room mate, stable job so can pay my expenses. Just Live.
though now i get why people go to the shadows with such big chips, and guns.
-
Dude, I get it, and we're all in the same boat. I'm glad you are on the road to recovery, that's really the most important thing. And the rest of the shit - we're all swimming in it, trust me, things haven't been rosy for a long while. If we could just have some damn grownups in charge, that might help, but the ass hats out there right now are just making things worse. I know I'm looking for signs of the Weimar Republic redux, Fahrenheit 541, and 1984 all rolled into one soul crushing future, because that's what they seem to be angling for. But wait, I was supposed to be cheering you up...ummm...

Hehe, i dig it, sorry for getting so dour, but yeah. Everything is rather... yeah.
Some good news, got the bill, for er and surgery stuff it comes out to 5000. Not great but much better then predicted. Hospitalsaid should be no problem with financial assist. And healing well so should be able to get working again soon.

other news friend and i have gotten into SLA Industries RPG, where humanity is in far future on planet run by huge megacorp.. and as a change you play the corpo goons. its kinda interesting and we are trying to work out some shared gm thing to take turns so everybody can play and run. though we have very different styles soo... yeah.

Its not to bad. Its a change, worlds very grim dark, and your not exactly hero. Not fully villian, but im sure aztek would feel but quizy with some of the SLAs methods. But even then lots of the terrible stuff is frowned upon by even their own.
Its interesting, and weird. Havent heard much else from other people aside from a deep dive into the secret background from original writer which is a weird twist.
End result is a splatterpunk/horror game where your the nominal good guy. How the game shapes is gonna depend alot on your gm and players.
For our group its turning very tongue in cheek and like, old early 90s anime ovas of the angel cop and others style. Stylized trash on purpose.
-
This is the second edition as well, 1st could be... lots different as its one of those early 90s dark edgy rpgs.
-
Fair enough. The one I'd heard about was almost certainly the first edition.
-
If ya dont mind me asking, what was it you heard?
Regarding 2nd, we kinda got this feel of like, the stallone version of judge dredd in lotta ways, or at least thats how we plan on setting the tone.
-
If ya dont mind me asking, what was it you heard?
I was being deliberately vague about that because it's been ... years. Late '90'ies IIRC.
There was something about it being very dark, full of wry sarcastic commentary on (then-)current mass media and trends. A certain sense of self-irony. I think the expression "Splatter-punk" was used, but I'm not certain. The owner of the book was not ready to run it at the time, though I believe he has since then.
-
aahhh,
and yeah, its termed "splatterpunk" though its not all that hyperviolent. 1st might have been more, but here feels very much like your playing shadowrun from the corps SpecOps goon side. ive found lors of back info stuff, like the details behind the lore in setting in whats going on, and its pretty cool, and hopefully will make for an interesting game. on the side they had a short lived mini-battle game in world, but cut it short realizing they just wanted to run rpg stuff.

Hey, sometimes it pays to have someone loud and obvious drawing away attention while the quiet skilled people sneak in while guards are distracted;3
... that actually seems like could be cool concept for a small game of people who wanna do shadowrun without as much stealth..
-
True enough
-
I like the stints of silence at times. Makes me feel I didn?t miss anything. ;D
-
funny, they always make me worried. ;)
-
Why am I thinking of the big Ork sammy leaning out the window and yelling down to the arriving law enforcement types, "It's okay! We're Shadowrunners!"
-
LoL! What a scene ;)
-
Heh, ive been back at security. And bluh. Man. In the future if i run a shadowrun game, moment security sees runners they are just gonna say "Fuck this" and lock themselves in a broom closet with the bottle of whiskey they hid inside. Pay is crap, just slightly above min wage, yet everybody seems to expect me to flying tackle every hobo and crackhead that walks by on the sidewalk, wrestle them down, and drag them away.
Right now they would be lucky if i called the cops if guy came in with an armed nuclear codpiece.
-
Thanks for the inside info man! :D
-
Yeah, one of my boyz is in security - got him some expensive dental work once, but he is friends with most of the cops on the west side of the city.
But the real question is...is the nuclear codpiece a special order thing?
-
Yeah, im unarmed, and basicly told "moment a fight starts gtfo". Scarecrow duty really. Wear the uniform and badge, walk around, ward off weirdos, ut be friendly and smile so dont scare off the normies.
And the codpiece... well. Like any quality peice of fashion, depends on how fast you want it and how much you got to spend.
Cheap and now? Its more likely just okd russian casing with a hand grenade and dirt from chernobyl inside. A proper thermonuclear cod piece could take weeks on just the artistic styling alone, and best expect to have to do a couple sittings so its a proper fit.
I suppose if your in a rush could get a used fission one, but be ready for some pointed comments about last years fashion, and "making an effort".
-
Hope any holiday you are celebrating is going well.
With the new bloody year looming I have made a decision:

I've broken my resolution. I'm dealing with manufactured drama on another site and am having to be diplomatic when I really do want to tell her, "you made this mess and now we have to clean it up, you fucking prima donna!" It's really hard to couch that in diplomatic terms.
-
That happens. It's people.

I mean... telling people to fucknoff can be diplomatic. Compared to just punching them in the face and tazing their liver and kidneys...

That's what we do here.
-
yup! always good to know you Peeps are alive and kicking!
-
I'd like to kick a few things. Which one of you got us cursed - may you live in interesting times my ass. I'd rather be bored.

Where is NeoP? He started this thread and said he would post here at least once a year, except his starting post and one reply in 2017 were his last posts?
-
I have that same question about a lot of people we used to see here...
Life moves like a whitewater river, and sometimes bodies get left on the shore.
Too dark...?
-
Mmm... a smidge.
Personally ibalways desposed of bodies by dumping them into sewers leading tothe ocean. Plenty of things to gnaw on them as they wash out.
And happy birthday to myself tomorrow! 41 years old, official old man age.
Wondering what color the jewel in my hand will turn... though it hasnt changed since turned black like, 10 years ago.
-
Happy Birthday. Had one myself a week or so ago. I don't pay much attention to the pesky things. Yeah, once the jewel indicator turns black, the only other option is clear, and that's if you get out from under the control. Surprised the Sandmen haven't got you yet, try going out into the real world, that should clear things up for you.
*as an aside, the woman who played Jessica 7 in Logan's Run, in all her semi-nudeness, is now playing an elder Church of England nun on a Brit TV series. Times change.
-
FINALLY!!!! HAHAHAH!!! Someone who actually got the reference!!!!
-
...so what were we all doing in July?
-
Trying not to burn to a crisp. It was quite hot here!
:bob:
-
Same. Its hitting 95 now around me. Which wouldnt be to bad if didnt have to go out every half hour for patrols.
Fuggin meltin damn it!
-
'Trying not to burn to a crisp' seems about right.
Though given the moisture levels around here, steamed might be more accurate.
-
Yeah, that one. The dewpoint this afternoon was 72 - that's like central Amazon shite. Don't like it. Thunderstorms expected, so that's good, the pools could use some water.
-
Happy October, y'all.
That's assuming 'happy' is allowed any more, we may have to take it before a committee.
-
Heh, if thats the case mightbtale them several years before finally making a damn decision.. if ever.
-
I'd assume 'happy' is fine. Unless it's for a person's name I guess.
-
There was an historic personage with that name once, actually - Happy Rockefeller. No idea if it was her real name or not. I think I would hate to be named an adjective...or color....or any common noun for that matter....Story Blue is a 'name' not outside the realm of possibility these days, sadly.
-
IIRC, a British teen named 'Happy' had her name changed by court order some years ago. It was argued to be the reason for her being an aggressive somewhat violent delinquent.
-
Well, that's all the arguments against silly names in a nutshell. I have known in my life poor sods called Camper, Science, Sacred, Aryan, King, and Tequila - and that's not even touching on the girls with masculine - often aggressively masculine - names. I assume most if not all of these will one day be in a lock down facility or at least be paying a therapist three times a week.
-
The power of true names.
Not the fear someone may control you with them...
Just the embarassment of having horrible parents...
-
Indeed

Welcome to December, boys. :-\

Wow! Nice!
-
Happy New Year fellas, so, 2024...I think maybe we should read the fine print before proceeding.
-
Based on what the last few years have been like... yeah, probably a good idea!
-
This point im convinced the 20s are fucking dragons, and i just dont wanna fucking deal with them. (Present company excluded Apoc)
-
Man... checking stuff, its been almost 20 years since my "Return" in 2005.
I cant even remember when i first joined so many ages back, just that it wqs still the heyday of 2nd edition.
Well, to all you other old timers hanging on like me, cheers to mates! May your runs be Milk, your pay be untracable, mags stay full, and medkits stay sealed.

Right back at you chummer!

I still remember arguing with Apoc about what being "strong" means way back when... and now he's a personal friend!
We don't pick who comes into our lives, but we can pick who we keep in our lives. :bob:
-
You have a good memory! That was a great argument. Hope all is well!
Appreciate the exception Capt!

I am in touch with fewer of the people in rl who I met at the same time as you lot, life is so freaking weird.

Apoc! It's been a minute, good to see you! :)

Been more than a min. Tend to forget to come back to my body at times.
I did send you a message Root as had a question. If you didn?t get it then let me know.

Sorry, I've only just noticed that I had a message. Mea Culpa - didn't think to check.

Sifting through the mass of shit isekai to try and find something tolerable...
Idea came to me.
New isekai, but not some tepid gutless nerd or wage slave who gets pulled in with cheat skill.
But.. say a Chromed up Runner from cyberpunk style universe. Not the stupidly overdone ones, but cyberware on the scale of shadowrun and cyberpunk 2077. With all their chrome intact.
Doesnt all go their way of course. Magic is new and terrifying, amd turns out Skills can compensate a good bit as well.
Not the standard overpowered MC who can kill 10000 orcs with single swing of their sword, but worls with the cunning ruthlessness of a Runner and some top of the line Chrome.
And fun stuff like them weirded out by the taste of fresh egetables and meat as they are used to Soy products, for someone from cyberpunk 20xx the very prudish in comparison to "modern culture" of way people dress. First time they see a dragon just, ".... Nope." Out cause fuck you thats a giant flying fire breathing lizard!!! I aint sign up to fight no Kaiju! How they call everybody working the desk at the adventures guild Johnson.
Heh. Generic badguy counting on an import hero going to be all noble and merciful like every other isekai protag.. only to get a knife buried in their eye, "Seriously? You think imma fall for that crap..?" Some corrupt noble trying to take their Sacred Armor "Dude. Thats my skin Bruh."
And for the dark parts, slow onset of cyberpsychosis from the isolation they feel trapped in this new world that barely seems to tolerate them, the stress from food not having all the stimulants and sedatives put in to keep population placid but productive and the other additives causing withdrawl aches and such. The lack of modern comforts like hot shower, vids to watch, internet to surf, all those things.
-
Sounds like a fun show.
Mind you, CP2020 (and by extension 2077) does have full body replacements etc...
-
Oh yeah, but im thinking some one heavily chromed, not full on borged. Like V before konpeki plaza, david martinez before the showdown with maxtac, or others like. High end but still street level runners yanked in.
... heh. Not that it wouldnt be... Fun... to see one of the more trash settings pull in someone like Adam Smasher and try to bully him around like they do some normal wage slave they jerked in...

I really have to remember to check in with you meat bags more often. I apologize. Its like the last few of us are a flock of dodos on a stormy rock idly wondering why those tall featherless newcomers have big sticks with them.
-
Not to worry - I'm not here every day either. Probably should be, but no.
-
Recently went to the land of the rising sun. Megacorp jokes aside, I recommend everyone go at least once in their life. Beautiful place with a rich history and people aren't drek-heads. The Tokyo train/metro is a thing of beauty and efficiency once you figure it out.
-
my brother tries to take a trip every couple of years, always enjoys it.
Sadly im unlikely to even be able to make it up to canada on a vacation:T

Good for you. I used to love finding new places to see. Sadly, never had any interest in Japan when I was actually traveling, back when it was fun and easy. Now that I'm older, and travel is difficult and borderline unpleasant, I want to see it all, and probably won't. Did make it to Europe and the middle east, but not the far east. So unless I become one of the stupidly rich somehow, and manage a seagoing mega-yacht (on which you'd all be invited) I think that only domestic travel is my future; there's still a lot to see in the lower 48.
-

Definitely agree or I wouldn?t have spent 15 years of my life there. Glad you enjoyed it! Where did you guys go? Just the Tokyo area?

In total Tokyo for about 10 days and Kyoto/Osaka for about 6 days. Next time we'll spend much less time in Tokyo
-
Nice! My wife visited home for the first time in about five years back in February. Sounds like a good time and always feel free to holler before you go next time if can recommend anything or even small tips. Any big highlights from the trip?

Translation: is there going to be a slide show?

Looks like we aren't the only ones to miss Shadowrun. Someone in the FSB appears to also miss the shadows.
-
FSB?

holy crap. for the first time in forever we have spammers!
even in the future the digital rats and roaches skulk about.

Haha I was surprised for sure!
Cleaned up most of it I think..?
I deleted a bunch of spam registrations, and turned off registration of new accounts outright. Forum boards aren't how gamers link and interact these days, so I doubt any new registrations would be legitimate users.
-
Sadly true:(
Heh. Just us old runners in our old forgotten section of the web using our old text format messages.
Will the next gen of runners know what it feels like to have times and advance beyond you?
Only if the drekheads are any good.
-
Too true that
-
FSB?
KGB rebranded as FSB a few years ago. Their hybrid warfare feels suspiciously like some of my old 'runs. :-/
-
Apologies for the long absence, it only just occurred to me that one of the bookmarks deleted by my latest unasked for update was this place, honestly, the stupid thing deleted a decade worth of bookmarks, not all of which I have been able to recall, and since this was one of the earliest, it was toward the bottom of this list of things I had to remember.
-
ooohhhh!!! Those guys:T
Good to have ya back Zone!
Yeah. the wonders of modern technology. I know this isnt cyberpunk 20xx... But can we start building a blackwall what with all the trash AI and terrible updates corps are squatting out..?
-
need a runner who has anti google ware, what a bunch of :-X, I'm sure they become something sinister soon.
-
Id guess toxic or bug...
But pretty they are getting to morally bankrupt even for those guys.
-
"Don't Be Evil" - remember that?
'cause I'm pretty sure google doesn't.
-
oh, they remember.
They have the old pictures posted up, and when they walk by they point and laugh.
-
Probably.
