I garuntee you that Peter doesn't die for real. In fact, I think that Peter isn't the one who blows up New York at all. I'm thinking it's Sylar. I think Sylar gets into Peter's head, starts taking powers and then ends up not being able to finish. He leaves with Ted's power (among others) and when he tries to use it, ends up going nuclear.
I think Peter is presumed dead (and since he has head trauma will not be able to use Claire's ability to heal until that trauma is either repaired or removed) and comes in a bit later to help take care of the Sylar issue.

Here's my theory- if Peter dies, then Nathan (who is on the presidential track with help from the strings-puller) will have no problem labelling people with powers as terrorists.
So, there are two options- Peter dies, Nathan hunts down Sylar and all the other horrible people with powers. Peter lives, Nathan has no reason to hunt down people with powers.

YOu know, I never thought of the terrorist angle, but it does fit with the current terrorist gremlin crap being spread around the media like cow drek. And seeing the previews for the next episode, I think you might be onto something there.

Dude, did you hear the talk that Nathan and Peter had? Peter thinks he can survive the nuclear blast. And the radiation doesn't seem to hurt Ted, so I think he might be onto something there.
I thought Peter picked up the scar from his tussle with Sylar, but it looks like he'll have it 5 years in the future.

Well, this next episode takes place 5 years in the future, so Nathan is President, Peter has a scar... and apparently he's leader of some sort of resistance, because he's kicking the crap out of some guards or something, along with Nikki and Hiro.
I'm looking forward to Hiro and Future Hiro teaming up and kicking ass.

Okay, so... awesome!
Alright, I don't want to spoil the Heroes finale for those people who didn't watch it, but MAN. It was awesome.
No Lost-ian neverending plotlines and drama. We found out who the exploding man was, and whether they were able to stop him or not. Awesomeness.
You have been warned. Spoilers below this point.

Yeah, I'm thinking so.
Also, I have a theory about Sylar actually dying, but someone else dragging his body down into the sewer. Which is why you saw the bloodtrail you did.

yeah I go back and forth between thinking he dragged himself away and someone just stole the corpse and took it into the sewers. I just hate hate hate that there were powers peter never had a chance to get, especially Lindermans. Im also wondering if things/people Linderman healed are still healed after his death. It would be interesting if they werent. Would make his "help" conditional in yet another way.
